Without spoiling you , in case you wanna react to the anime , i'll give you some info , most of this info you'll get from the first 5 ep. Now, our guys : Lucy is a celestial wizard that has zodiac keys and summons zodiac spirits ( the mermaid was aquarius ) Natsu has fire dragon slayer magic and was raised by the red dragon that you see a lot in the intro Gray ( the dude with short black hair ) has ice magic Erza ( the redhead ) has equip magic ( she can equip armor and swords from her pocket dimension) and she is reckless that's why she gets injured a lot ( she is an S rank wizard ) and also when she equips with the bandages it is so that she can be faster and not slowed down by armor . This is a world of magic , we have different worlds, time travel, summon magic , dragon slayer magic, god slayer magic , everything you can think of . The anime gets a lot of hate because of the fun service and because a lot of our main cast gets powered up with the power of friendship ( mostly because the author said he hates training arcs ) *but* it is stated even from the first couple of episodes that magic gets powered up with feelings . The zero thing in the intro was a prequel arc and ... i hope you understand something a bit more from the anime now

A general rule of thumb for ft openings. Every two openings is anew arc. So every time new villains/ characters are introduced that's why. But that's not always the case, causethere are some one off arcs. All to say yes it's very confusing if you have no idea what's going on

But i still give a chance to watch FT. Now i'm at eps 160 (tournament arc), and i realize that the openings actually spoilers many things. But still, i got confusing what happened after tournament arc, especially in openings 15-16, which both are my favorite Fairy Tail op's.
