Despite how Freya screwed over Baldur, I can’t help but adore her interactions with Atreus. You can tell that she still has strong motherly instincts despite what’s happened to her, and seeing as how the boy just lost his mother I find it so cute how she treats him.

    • @stephenking5852

Her attempt to protect Baldur from his predicted death became the cause. A self-fulfilling prophecy, like what happened to Oedipus. If she had known that, she wouldn’t have cursed her son.

Freya is supposed to be extremely kind and motherly in the mythology. Protecting humans and innocents from monsters and beasts and from Odin's selfish wrath, although selflessly taking Odin's punishment later on. She was displayed amazingly here.

I can't help but adore and pity Freya. She's a kind and loving but lonely and traumatized soul. Her betrayal by Odin, abandonment by her people and forced isolation in one realm made her all the more hyper paranoid, domineering and overprotective when it came to the one good, pure thing she still had in her life that gave her joy, peace and comfort - her child. That lady got dealt a raw deal all the way around. What's weird is that she looks just like Julia Roberts or Alanis Morissette.

Honestly I love Freya's character and how caring she is as a mother and one in her various imposing positions. Leader of the Vanir, Queen of the Valkyries, Wife of Odin and Mother of Baldur....
Why she failed as Baldur's mother is not that she _didn't_ love him or _abused_ him, what she did to Baldur was much worse. She ruined his life in the only way worse than whatever Thor did to Modi, by being overprotective of her child and controlling him (via her magic) with selfish intentions being part of her reasons for it. Taking away his choice in a major life-altering decision and cursing him with the inability to feel anything physically. A parent that would have zero faith in their child's own ability is destined to make them incapable of anything on their own.
Baldur's resentment and hatred of her is understood when nothing so much as makes him move. Can you imagine simply moving around unable to feel your foot hitting the ground, eating with tasting the meal in your mouth, being entirely numb to everything. That sounds like a nightmare. One Freya would not remove, even though Baldur _begged her_ to remove it.
All because of a random _Rune_ telling Freya her son will die a needless death. When she made Baldur incapable of feeling, she made him this empty, morbidly indifferent monster of a god, and thus resulting in his death. It's as a wise old Chinese Tortoise once said....
"One often meets their destiny on the road they take to avoid it."

People say Freya is over-protecting her son. Well, I guess that's kinda true, but if a mother foresaw her child's death ahead of her own, and she happened to possess godly power, what do you think she's gonna do? Our mortal mothers don't have that power, so we don't see them doing this stuff, but I don't think they are, on average, a lot less protective than Freya.

@Simon Farre Sorry to say it, but they badly raped those stories. Magni and Modi making mom jokes to a kid? Getting killed by a bald old man who doesn't know how to swing his axe in proper fashion? Them dying and being cruel at all instead of surviving Ragnarok, and dedicating their lives to selflessly help a handful of humans rebuild?
Or how about Odin being a rapist asshole who rips off his wife's wings for no reason, instead of being a wise stern leader attempting to keep all the worlds intact? Or Thor being nothing beyond a strong nationalist instead of a bloodthirsty psychopath? How about the fact that there's an explanation for almost everything in Norse mythology, instead of simply saying ''this is how it is. deal with it.'' Like this game does?
I liked the game too, but the way they thoroughly raped the mythos really bothered me. They just had to make the ''bad guys'' so overly incomprehensible and evil again. Why not give us a compelling story with an understandable villain instead? People are being dumbed down too much to get that I guess...

I hate that the aftermath of the final boss fight of GofW4 is essentially setting things up to transform Freya into a tragic villain-type in the next game in the series as I was really really hoping to see Freya become a recurring ally to Kratos & Atreus thru out this new exciting GofW cycle, maybe even see her ultimately become a new love interest to Kratos & a new mother to Atreus.
I hate seeing her suddenly at odds with Kratos big-time after she helped out both him & Atreus alot in their journey and after she & Atreus were beginning to develop a kind of mother & son-like bond with one another. I get that despite Baldur trying to kill her & him being bat-shit crazy that at the end of the day he was still her son & all and it grieved her to see him dead but she has to know that Kratos only killed Baldur in order to save her & not outta ruthless malice & bloodlust.
I just hope that in GofW5 that she does not go into full-blown vengeful villain mode and that somehow she will reconcile with Kratos as I'd really like to see her relationship with both Kratos & Atreus further developed.

She was so in love with motherhood that she couldn't see a life past it, even though it tormented her son. In its place we got a head who literally cannot stop talking about how unnecessarily cruel the gods are (even the ones that aren't in Mythology like Baldr, Odin, Thor, and Magni & Modi especially). I mean Odin tricks his wife to fuck with her, then uses her own magic against her and rips off her wings, poisons her children against her, and banishes her because... why!? Why the fuck would they make that story canon without a very good fucking explanation? No one likes an extremely bland villain like that. An evil villain needs an explanation for being evil. Lesbo Shibe yes, she loves his son in a selfish ưay, that’s why Baldur hates her.

Idk man.. After getting exiled by her own husband and lost the godly powers, I guess her son was the only thing she has to live for

Lesbo Shibe she didn't see how much of a hypocrite she was to the end.. Kratos did to her what she did to Baldur.. at the end of the day both mother and son may have been driven mad

well, you know what they say, "the pattern of love is almost the same as pattern of insanity". There you go, love disguised as insanity, or insanity disguised as love.

53:36 shit gives me chills. I think this might be the greatest game ever made. I’ve played ps and Xbox exclusives and I can’t think of a more enjoyable game than this one. I felt like I was playing a movie

Freya would be like Floyd’s mom. “He would never hurt a fly, he’s a good boy”

You know I was just starting to like her, in fact I could see her story in a way related to Kratos considering she was both cheated and betrayed by the gods then casted aside like a broken weapon which is why she helped them. But she was a fool to think Kratos killed her son, in truth her son died the moment she cursed him. Whoever that was that was only the shell of the son she knew and he had to be killed considering even after he was released he still had that bloodthirsty lunacy. Although had she not intervened I think Baldur was going to thank Atreus then be done with it. Her sweet boy no longer existed after she cursed him so if she wanted to blame someone for that, she should look at her reflection cuz when all is said and done she killed him.

I would have to warn Freya not to treat my son Atreus like that or she'd better prepare to be a step-mother.. Sheesh! She's lovely when she nurtures him like that. 🥵
