+Ben Madriz With Mariah? He was thinking "I am a big cheese in the record industry - but not the movie industry." Sony make films of-course, but that's not his area of expertise. Mariah getting involved in movies would mean another powerful man spending lots of time with Mariah - and he was clearly frightened to death of that happening.

I think she’s hesitant to explain what really happened in her relationship with him and what type of man he is because of what his capable of. She was still under a contract with him and Barbra was just pressuring her to admit to things or putting words in her mouth. I can’t believe Mariah even agreed to do this
I had never seen this interview until now. Back then, she seemed very careful and traumatized, I feel for her. As for people calling her all kinds of negative things, I ask you...are you the SAME exact person you were 20 years ago? It's not fair to judge and my answer to the question I asked, I am not the same person I was 20 years ago. Good or bad, you learn and you grow. If she is a diva, and hallelujah she is (love it by the way) she is calling the shots and not letting people control her. She's been down that road before and I say good for her. Love Mariah then and now.
Mariah is so eloquent and seems intellligent but this is also heartbreaking. She is so tactful and you can see it's hard for her to answer some questions.
Glitter the movie did not help. I feel it was poorly written, and rushed. However, the sound track was hot!! but people like to kick you when you are down and out.
I think she would have had more hits (Butterfly could have been number 1) if Sony/Columbia would have commercially released the songs (i.e. Butterfly, Breakdown and The Roof) instead of just a radio promo. There might have been some retaliation...
I can’t imagine her mental state at this point. Literally considered the biggest artist of the time and yet you’re divorcing someone who could break your career as fast as it was made. She had no where to go. Her mother lived in a house that he also financed. I remember in What’s Love Got to do With It, when Tina sneaks out of the house, grabs the kids and leaves. Calls her mom and she said he bought her a house and she was crushed. I’m not saying that it was true nor Mariah’s situation was like that but I just picture Mariah trying to escape and tommy is redialing or handlers are after her every move.
She was. While many go with Whitney was the first choice it was actually Diana Ross but people feared she was too old and past prime to bring in the money and then Kevin Costner famously went to a Madonna concert (shown in her truth or dare thing) to see if she could sing live and well, he called her show 'neat' and Madonna was out of the equation. Keep in mind, Madonna embodied the role as she was the top star of that time. Mariah was offered it but as she notes Tommy rejected it without her knowing and Whitney who was in a career low was given the role as she would have the universal appeal to pull it off. There aren't many female leading roles from the 90s with a singer that Mariah is pulling from. It made sense why she was offered it as she had the same thing as Whitney except she was in her prime and had a more universally appealing look but I do think it was best that she didn't play that role as she would have been challenged to juggle music and movies at the pace in the 90s. Still, she should have been given a chance to say no.
You can say what you want about Barbara Waters, but you can't deny that she's the hell of a journalist. She's *not afraid* of asking the things people want to know.
This interview made me cry. I think that Mariah has been truly blessed and that she is such a sweet person by helping her mom and sister. In this day and age, people don't care about each other! So big ups to Carey for always seeing to the family, but also enjoying her life and finding love. I am glad that she is finally happy and at peace. Love you MCC.

No, Kevin Costner has stated that he was the one who came up with the idea of using Whitney and it was an idea he had very early on and that he couldn't imagine anyone else in that role opposite him.
Of course he's going to say that. What else would he say: Yes, Whitney was the fourth or fifth pick. No, Diana Ross was the first choice, then Madonna, then Mariah and then Whitney.
