Ted Nugent was and is a wild man. He swung on to stage on a rope, played in a Tarzan outfit and ended his show by shooting a flaming arrow in to a target. Ted claims he has never done drugs or alcohol after seeing what it did to other rockers. Ted is in his late 60's or early 70's and is very healthy. He's always been an avid outdoorsman and is stil enjoying the outdoors today.
He’s not known for his eloquent lyrics or even his voice for that matter. But he plays some killer guitar! I saw him at the Cal Jam II when I was eighteen years old.
I was there physically, mentally I was in the stratosphere I was so high. All I remember was climbing the speaker tower, seeing Ted through someone's binoculars and waking up in the middle of the field the next day covered in mud from head to toe. I must have had a really good time.
This whole album is KILLER. Cat Scratch rolls right into Wang Dang Sweet Poontang, then Death By Misadventure, Got to Live it Up then a BAD ASS instrumental Home Bound. Side One.
In the song Hibernation recorded live on his Double Live Gonzo album from several shows in 1976-77, Ted in talking about his Gibson Byrdland guitar says "I did it one time on safari, this guitar is guaranteed to blow the balls off a charging rhino at 60 paces it is." "This guitar just definitely refuses to play sweet shit you know, it just refuses". He then proceeds to break into what I think is one of the all-time great live rock instrumentals ever recorded. His Double Live Gonzo album is his best work ever, period. This song was recorded live on that same album, as was the other song of his you've reacted to, Stranglehold.
I saw him live and I would never recommend against either a live show OR the double live album. However, based strictly on the unmatched brilliance of his skills showcased in studio, I do prefer his earlier version on the Amboy Dukes album, Tooth,Fang, and Claw. If you love the songs Great White Buffalo, and his incredible instrumental Hibernation, and you have not heard these versions, do yourself a favor and give them a listen. Preferably with headphones or a great sound system cranked.
My first concert was a festival with Ted, Black Oak Arkansas, Foghat, etc...Right around the time of the California Jam. They made way to Charlotte NC. I was 12. And drunk. Lost my brand new Adidas Stan Smiths.

Ted is a rockin' good guitar player. An icon in classic rock he does everything the Ted way or not at all. He can be heard in the band Damn Yankees also.
Seen AC/DC,the Scorpions,and Ted Nugent,as the headliner,at the Philadelphia Spectrum. My ears rang for days. We sat on the side of the stage,next to the speakers. One of the best and loudest concerts I ever went to.
Ted Nugent was my 1st concert and he sang EVERY SONG so I don't get some of these comments. Somebody yelled "f*** you Nugent at the concert and he literally jumped off the stage and punched him in the face LMFAO 🤣. CLASSIC Nugent

Ted Nugent is _DEFINITELY_ a character.. But he _IS_ himself.. I love watching his interviews. He's blunt about what he says, but I tend to agree with most of what he says. Cool to see: If you go back and watch some of his old interviews on Late Night talk shows, and more modern interviews, he's always been consistent. And is sharp as a tack.

Love watching your reactions to these older bands. I have something completely different for you - the personification of the hippie/1960's - The Grateful Dead. A quick history - they learned to play live and improvise (some songs could last 45 minutes to an hour when they really went off) by taking LSD together (when it was still legal) and playing live together. They became what they called fingers on a hand - each band member adding what they wanted individually, but always linked back to the central music they were all playing. So the two drummers would play their own rhythms while piano, bass, rhythm and lead guitars all playing whatever they wanted within the structure of a song. For this reason, they never played a song the same way twice. They also never set a playlist for a concert like you see other groups do. If you see the Rolling Stones on tour in Florida and then again in California - they play the exact same songs in the exact same order. The Dead would call their songs out on stage as they played live in order to feel the energy of the crowd. For this reason, they never played the same set of songs in the same order twice - so no two live performances were ever the same. This is the spirit of the 1960's alive in music and the open-minded beliefs that came along with it. Deadheads, as their fans are known, would travel behind them from arena parking lot to parking lot, watching every concert they could. The Dead played more than 2500 concerts together - and they allowed their fans to tape their shows. Jerry Garcia, their lead guitarist and one of their singers famously said, once we are done with the music, the fans can have it and do what they want with it". So they had entire sections of the audience next to the speakers called the "Taper Zone" where people would set up expensive taping equipment for each concert. That is why almost every live performance they ever did was recorded in one way or another and saved in the Grateful Dead Vault in San Francisco. Anyway, I don't know if you'll even read this - but this is a unique American folk/jazz/blues/psychedelic/country/bluegrass fusion - nothing like you've ever heard before. Back in the 90's a friend of mine was driving with her 2 year old in the back seat. This song came on the radio and the little girl started singing along. Mom turned down the radio to hear her. She was singing "Scratch That Beaver"! True story.

TED NUGENT is an awesome rocker who comes from my neck of the wood (Redford/Detroit). He was originally in the AMBOY DUKES and on to DAMN YANKEES. HE is called the "Motor City Madman" for good reason. Back in MY DAY we experimented very young. The doc used to call us the "Pass around Kids". lol. Things in the 60s were not ALL better. Before Aids, Before all the different STD's etc. I was only 11 when the gal down the street latched onto me and loved me a long time. lol. Ah the OLD DAZE. I hung with all these rockers back in the mid 60's thru mid 70's. MOTOWN, Ted, Brownsville Station, Grand Funk, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and on and on the list goes. I was blessed to be there in those days with these guys. We sure raised hell that we would never condone of our own kidz. Amazing we are alive to talk about it all today.
When I was a young'in growing up in the 70's , I wasn't concerned what the lyrics were or what the song meant, I just grooved to the beat and got high on the vocals.
Cat Scratch Fever is an actual ailment. It is a play on words, using both meanings. My sister caught it. Actually from the neighbor's cat! Too funny. Out of Control or Working Hard, Playing Hard are real bangers from that album.
Saw him in concert once when he opened for Kiss. It was a great concert and Kiss was awesome! That was the 1st of Kiss farewell tour which turned out not to be their farewell tour.
The Nuge was in an episode of Miami Vice called Definitely Miami but that series used a couple of his of songs, one was Little Miss Dangerous which was also the name of the episode and in the episode a hooker was killing her tricks and one of the lines in the chorus is “Such a dangerous body with a little girl’s face” and the actress they got to play the hooker was perfect for this episode.
My now ex husband introduced me to Ted with this song when we were 12 years old! Back then we didn’t know one liked the other. We grew up together. The other song that I remember him introducing me to was Great White Buffalo by Ted!!!!

Saw Uncle Ted many times in the 70's. Say what you will about him, he is one hell of a guitarist and rocked your socks off in concert. Crazy shows, they don't call him the Motor City Madman for nothing. In indoor venues, he used to swing down from the ceiling rafters on a rope, wearing an animal skin loincloth and his guitar strapped across his back.
Saw him in the 70s during the swinging from a rope in a loincloth phase. He was absolutely wild on stage back then. Awesome show, and AC/DC with Bon Scott warmed up for him.

I saw him and the Amboy Dukes on Jekyll Island Georgia, summer of 71, was Incredible! they played the Aquarama A room, big domed room, a few years later the ceiling started caving in so they tore it down. I always wondered if Uncle Teds volume had something to do with it! lol
Ted Nugent is the guitar player and he sings this particular song. He has a singer named Derek St. Holmes that sang some songs like the song "Stranglehold" for instance (which is a great song I highly recommend) However he was the main song writer along with St. James. The rest of the band were pretty much musicians for hire. But Ted himself was always the main songwriter and lead guitar player, and he did vocals on many songs and Derek St. Holmes sang others... Ted Nugent went on in the early 90's to form a super group called "Damn Yankees" with Tommy Shaw of STYX and Jack Blades of Night Ranger. Ted was the lead guitar player for Damn Yankees and they had some really good songs (I highly recommend them as well)
Our school mascot was the "Wildcats", so when this song came out the marching band learned to played it, and the title was used on posters, t-shirts, homecoming floats, etc. for a few years!

Ted's band was called, the last name was called Damn Yankees. The Amboy Duke's was his first. That band was originally based out of Chicago but was then based out of Detroit. Journey to the Center of your Mind...1964 was their biggest hit. That was written by Ted. Uncle Ted as he's known along with Motor City Mad Man is from here in Michigan. He lives in Texas now outside Austin. Believe it or not women were his only vice. He was afraid drugs & alcohol would mess up his voice (the latter) drugs would stunt his creativity. A lot of people call BS on both but Ted, he's 72 can get strange all by himself. In the 70's he used to wear just a loincloth on stage & used a "Tarzan" rope to get on stage. That's our Ted! My wife's aunt actually got Cat Scratch Fever a couple years ago. I thought my wife was joking when she told me. I never realized it was a real thing.

This is the spirit of the 1960's alive in music and the open-minded beliefs that came along with it. Deadheads, as their fans are known, would travel behind them from arena parking lot to parking lot, watching every concert they could. The Dead played more than 2500 concerts together - and they allowed their fans to tape their shows. Jerry Garcia, their lead guitarist and one of their singers famously said, once we are done with the music, the fans can have it and do what they want with it". So they had entire sections of the audience next to the speakers called the "Taper Zone" where people would set up expensive taping equipment for each concert. That is why almost every live performance they ever did was recorded in one way or another and saved in the Grateful Dead Vault in San Francisco. Anyway, I don't know if you'll even read this - but this is a unique American folk/jazz/blues/psychedelic/country/bluegrass fusion - nothing like you've ever heard before. Back in the 90's a friend of mine was driving with her 2 year old in the back seat. This song came on the radio and the little girl started singing along. Mom turned down the radio to hear her. She was singing "Scratch That Beaver"! True story.

TED NUGENT is an awesome rocker who comes from my neck of the wood (Redford/Detroit). He was originally in the AMBOY DUKES and on to DAMN YANKEES. HE is called the "Motor City Madman" for good reason. Back in MY DAY we experimented very young. The doc used to call us the "Pass around Kids". lol. Things in the 60s were not ALL better. Before Aids, Before all the different STD's etc. I was only 11 when the gal down the street latched onto me and loved me a long time. lol. Ah the OLD DAZE. I hung with all these rockers back in the mid 60's thru mid 70's. MOTOWN, Ted, Brownsville Station, Grand Funk, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and on and on the list goes. I was blessed to be there in those days with these guys. We sure raised hell that we would never condone of our own kidz. Amazing we are alive to talk about it all today.
When I was a young'in growing up in the 70's , I wasn't concerned what the lyrics were or what the song meant, I just grooved to the beat and got high on the vocals.

Saw him in concert once when he opened for Kiss. It was a great concert and Kiss was awesome! That was the 1st of Kiss farewell tour which turned out not to be their farewell tour.

The Nuge was in an episode of Miami Vice called Definitely Miami but that series used a couple of his of songs, one was Little Miss Dangerous which was also the name of the episode and in the episode a hooker was killing her tricks and one of the lines in the chorus is “Such a dangerous body with a little girl’s face” and the actress they got to play the hooker was perfect for this episode.
My now ex husband introduced me to Ted with this song when we were 12 years old! Back then we didn’t know one liked the other. We grew up together. The other song that I remember him introducing me to was Great White Buffalo by Ted!!!!

Saw Uncle Ted many times in the 70's. Say what you will about him, he is one hell of a guitarist and rocked your socks off in concert. Crazy shows, they don't call him the Motor City Madman for nothing. In indoor venues, he used to swing down from the ceiling rafters on a rope, wearing an animal skin loincloth and his guitar strapped across his back.
Saw him in the 70s during the swinging from a rope in a loincloth phase. He was absolutely wild on stage back then. Awesome show, and AC/DC with Bon Scott warmed up for him.

I saw him and the Amboy Dukes on Jekyll Island Georgia, summer of 71, was Incredible! they played the Aquarama A room, big domed room, a few years later the ceiling started caving in so they tore it down. I always wondered if Uncle Teds volume had something to do with it! lol
Ted Nugent is the guitar player and he sings this particular song. He has a singer named Derek St. Holmes that sang some songs like the song "Stranglehold" for instance (which is a great song I highly recommend) However he was the main song writer along with St. James. The rest of the band were pretty much musicians for hire. But Ted himself was always the main songwriter and lead guitar player, and he did vocals on many songs and Derek St. Holmes sang others... Ted Nugent went on in the early 90's to form a super group called "Damn Yankees" with Tommy Shaw of STYX and Jack Blades of Night Ranger. Ted was the lead guitar player for Damn Yankees and they had some really good songs (I highly recommend them as well)

Ted's band was called, the last name was called Damn Yankees. The Amboy Duke's was his first. That band was originally based out of Chicago but was then based out of Detroit. Journey to the Center of your Mind...1964 was their biggest hit. That was written by Ted. Uncle Ted as he's known along with Motor City Mad Man is from here in Michigan. He lives in Texas now outside Austin. Believe it or not women were his only vice. He was afraid drugs & alcohol would mess up his voice (the latter) drugs would stunt his creativity. A lot of people call BS on both but Ted, he's 72 can get strange all by himself. In the 70's he used to wear just a loincloth on stage & used a "Tarzan" rope to get on stage. That's our Ted!
