    Seriously this guy is unbelievable, the discipline and dedication he had for his profession is amazing. It's a shame UK don't respect the sport because he definitely deserves honours and respect like all other sportsmen.

    Dorian Yates is a true source of motivation, even for us naturals. He's so smart no shit he won everything by himself without any outside help. I really idolize this guy and he drives me everyday to do better in the gym and in all other areas of life aswell. Keep it up DY!
    Edit : what he says at 8:35 about training is so true, listen to him lads!

    Thanks for your feedback Nathan M. Yes you are right. At this stage I'm better at speaking than listening! We talked over each other 2-3 times (my fault). I felt vulnerable about publishing it but I don't like editing as I want it to be real/natural. As this is not about me it's about Dorian I left it, my mistakes 'n all. I tend to interrupt when I think we may lose a thread or an interesting one opens up. Sometimes it creates original content that I really want (don't want same 'ol q's & a's) & sometimes doesn't work as well.
    It's also really hard and weird to just sit and not react as you want to show that you are interested (as I am!), but know from also being an avid listener of podcasts that it's annoying if there are too many aha's and uh hu's and yes'.
    Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment & I hope you thought the content was good.

      Rob Moore although constructive criticism can be very useful, I disagree with the previous criticism, I very much enjoyed the interview and found your interviewing style to be very naturalistic, the conversation seemed to flow and you both came across as relaxed, happy to be there and to share information

    I found this very interesting! Finally somebody who just tells it how it is in the bodybuilding world. I happen to know a close friend of Dorians and we had a conversation about young bodybuilders or gym goers who probably wouldnt have a clue what Dorian did for British bodybuilding if he walked past them in a gym! Retired but NEVER forgotten DY!

    I've followed yates since the early 90s, I like how he has opened himself to you and the world of the Internet. He is a machine. He has evolved in a world that has changed so much but the goal has always been the same.
    The individual challenge to seek
    something inside yourself. For me he is an even better role model for normal people now than ever. Thanks for sharing. High intesity for life, in everything we do.

    Stumbled across this interview and am extremely pleased I did. I attended a great small seminar of Dorian's back in the early 90's, which was highly informative and honest. Loved this interview, not just for the training aspect, but the goals and business aspect just as much. Will listen again and again I think. Cheers.

    Nice interview! Can I perhaps give some tips? You seem to have the tendency to react verbally a lot when people speek, or the tendency to immediately ask a question (interrupting Dorian when speaking). Perhaps you could try to do that less? Now mind you, you don't do this all the time during the interview, you sometimes do this!

      As I stated in another thread thank you for the feedback. I like to think I have gotten better as I have done more interviews. Often as an interviewer you can be quite nervous in the presence of great people, or worried that you may go blank and not have a question to hand/mind (as I hate reading them out) & also you think you can grab onto something that comes out naturally. I try to talk a lot less now. Always room to improve. Thanks again

  • @simonfarmer4131
    @simonfarmer4131 7 лет назад +13

    To his credit Dorian has been very honest and open in recent years about his life. But there are still lots of unanswered questions. Two that I would love to hear Dorian address are in regard to the financial help he received in the early days and the circumstances surrounding his marriage break up. I find it quite baffling that someone would give a young bodybuilder from Birmingham money to further his career in a minority sport with little to no money to be made in it back then when Dorian was an unknown quantity. Hardly a good investment is it. I am left wondering what the terms of the deal were. Secondly, with regards to Dorians first wife. She had been with him from day one. What was her life like living with him? I bet she could write a book. I believe Dorian fathered his daughter with another woman. So did Dorian succumb to the temptations of sexy girls in the industry and was it this that ended his marriage.

      Dorian didn't father his daughter with another woman. He and his ex wife decided to divorce but were still living together. They were waiting a few more months before his son finished school and they ended up sleeping together and his daughter was conceived. They decided to continue with their divorce anyways.

    ja, i think now we focus way too much and getting other people involved. A trainer, then a physio, then a mental coach, and then a nutrition coach. the individual endevour is a lost art. just you and the gym, or you and the swimming pool. you figuring it out. I think now there are too many avenues to shift the blame. the laser focus. tunnel vision, tunnel vision goal attainment. its a lost art. Dorian is an inspiration.

    Very good interview. Dorian is always honest and down to earth. However one thing must never be overlooked with regards to his competitive years and this is in no way meant to discredit Dorian. He had incredible genetics and was extremely receptive to anabolic steroids. Many bodybuilders have been as dedicated and focused as Dorian, but the reality in competitive bodybuilding is that if you don't have the genetics and great receptors, you will NEVER make it to the top. These factors, combined with Dorian's intelligence, tenacity and focus are simply unstoppable. I think Dorian even partly admits that Genetics play a massive role when he states that he decided that if he didn't place top 5 in his first pro show he would quit because bodybuilding history showed that the greatest bodybuilders were successful from the beginning. They didn't take years to slowly ascend. Ronnie Coleman excepted of course.

    • @calebharris4127
      @calebharris4127 7 лет назад

      Simon Farmer no shit Sherlock. He says in many interviews that genetics play a role. He also states that he knew he would beat number 1 Mr. O back in 1992 because he knew he put in 100%. You say many have had the same dedication as him but this is not true. You're a schmuck lol.
