I’m sad this game never got a sequel, and most likely (or indefinitely) won’t get one. This game is amazing, and was a great way to continue a story in the Metal Gear universe after the 4th.

It’ll get a sequel eventually, if Alan Wake can get a sequel this definitely can. The game studios know how much fans are anticipating certain games so they wait for the right time to drop them to get the most hype out of it. They know how much holding out on us works in making us want it more.

While Raiden did agree with Armstrong that the system in America as it is now is fucked up, they wanted two vastly different things. Armstrong wanted a lawless world where people are free to do whatever they want solely because they have the strength and means to do so. There would be nothing keeping the worst of humanity from running wild. Raiden did not agree with that at all. Raiden is still a fairly good person, and even though does act way outside the law a lot, he would never pursue the same goal as Armstrong, especially not when his methods to carry out his plan involved making an army of child soldiers who were put through the same hell he was. TLDR: Raiden and Armstrong both held ideals of freedom, but their definitions of freedom were way too different for Raiden to ever carry out Armstrong's goals

I love seeing how invested Dontai was in the cutscenes and storyline. I wasn't sure if he'd really fw the overall message of the game beyond how cool everything was. Also Jetstream Sam gotta be one of the best rivals in any game ever.
I love how each character gets stronger whenever they are spitting their philosophy. It's like a debate and the fighting is just a visual representation of the impact of their beliefs in that particular moment. In the end, Wolfy had to step in and spit his own take and give Raiden that good anime BUDDY MOTIVATION. And the music is always on point with it lol
Armstrong was ultimately right about Raiden in that he, like Armstrong, fights for what he believes in no matter the odds, and will absolutely kill if he must. The personal war you see him embark upon at the end shows that his words even got through, though how Raiden wields the ideal is much different from how Armstrong would have, if I'm remembering correctly. It's also cool how Raiden is effectively exactly what Armstrong wants the rest of the world to become, yet is completely opposed to what he's doing. And it fits that who believes the weak should be culled by the strong is ultimately destroyed by someone stronger than themselves.

Raiden has a Wife (Rose) and a Son (John)

1. Its pretty crazy that, even with his new body, Sam was able to pretty consistently dunk on Raiden despite his only major cybernetic enhancement being his arm. Which actually made him *weaker* if anything, since he had trouble getting used to it. 2. I am convinced that half the reason that this game doesn't have a sequel is because they have no idea how to top Armstrong. The dude has next to no screentime up until the final level and yet they do such a good job of making every second he's onscreen count to make him not just iconic, but one of the best final bosses in video game history. And the fact that he's *chronologically* the *final boss* of the entire Metal Gear franchise is just the cherry on top.
I like how raiden actually shows respect to Sam by instead stabbing him through the chest instead of slicing him to millions of pieces like the others even tho he was the guy that almost fucking dog watered raiden in the vid lol.
And thus the main story concludes with 3 more songs. For Sam we got “The only thing I know for real” which is hype. And Armstrong gets 2 songs. “Collective consciousness” which explains what we THINK his motives are, and “It has to be this way” after the realization that he and Raiden aren’t so different Side note: 33:11 “Yo! It goes even deeper than that. Armstrong believes in nothing except his own greatness. He gives what's effectively a speech and then follows it up with, "I don't write my own speeches." The speech itself is just bites of other speeches as well, this is advertised by bits from two speeches that are unable to be more different if they tried. One is a call to the most sincere humanity and the other is a dog whistle to Fascistic ideology. Those two things are cognitively dissonant. Reinforcing that Armstrong himself believes nothing save for his Fascistic ideology. "Weak" and "strong" are relative terms, Bladewolf even makes this explicit when he says that if Raiden wants to protect everyone weaker than him then it would be billions of people. Armstrong sees himself as the strongest person there is. When someone states an absolute they also state the implied opposite since the listener subconsciously thinks that the opposite is the only way that absolute statement has meaning. So, when Armstrong says, "The weak shall serve," he implies, "The strong shall rule," and in Armstrong's eyes no one is stronger than him, as they're weaker than him they shall all serve him.

I think we know what kind of games Dontai likes by now, the violent hack and slash type game where the protagonist feels OP and can literally obliterate their enemies and you just feel powerful playing as them. Kratos, Asura, Deadpool, Wolverine, Dante, Cal Kestis, and now Raiden are one in the same. I wonder who will be next.
If you liked Sam’s sword, you can even play as him in the free DLCs. Would also recommend playing the other MGS games if you want to make sense of the SOP and other in-game lore things Also Senator Armstrong has the same VA as Mimir from GOW.

Hey Dontai, im excited that you've been playing all these hack n slash ps3 games that i love. I do have a suggestion on the next game to play. Ninja Gaiden would be a great game to play from Ninja gaiden 1-3. I'm not gonna lie. it's a challenging hack n slash series, but it's definitely worth playing.
Good to hear you had fun on this game, and i hope that further clarification in the comments by people on various things in the game will be of interest to you. And also that Dante's Inferno will still stick with you positively in spite of that last section. For other action or hack-and-slash type games, i'd love to see you play and enjoy the Darksiders series. 2 especially is pretty long, though. It's a somewhat divisive series between each game, with 3 being generally seen as the weakest Darksiders experience, but still an enjoyable game on its own. A somewhat recent hack-and-slash/character action title by name of Soulstice is one that I hope you may give a chance as well. It's got a lot of cool and interesting stuff and extra lore, and potential for more. Of course it's got its rough spots and design choices as well. Like it drags on a bit and has uneven pacing, a few particularly annoying enemies (out of the 24) and there is a color coding mechanic in place. But that's *exactly* why i want people to put more attention on that game: so that it gets more traction, more chance of a sequel, and thus proper constructive feedback to build upon the potential it already has. (And on the color coding thing: there's a kind of customizable ability tree in which you can mitigate some of the limitations it has and even weaponize them) Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 would be interesting to see as well! Though they're both kinda long games. 2 especially has... rough parts to it. The storytelling is rather strange, fast travel system is rather roundabout, and there's some stealth segments that in my opinion aren't too bad (except for ONE) but haven't been something that people remember fondly. Lords of Shadow is technically a trilogy, with Mirror of Fate being viewed from a 2D perspective that connects 1 with 2 via various important in-universe events. That one got received quite positively, from what i know. For a shorter title, Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death. In gameplay it's very much like Dante's Inferno, but takes place in South America and thus the mythology takes a slice out of the Meso-American mythology cake. Not as deeply as GoW, but then again, GoW has had six games to delve into that particular mythology by now. It's very affordable on Steam too! below ten dollars, i believe even below five. Heavenly Sword and Splatterhouse 2010 are pretty nice times as well-- again, in spite of some tedium. Splatterhouse 2010 especially is a great homage to its original series from like... 1990 or something. Perhaps the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy may be to your interest. Warrior Within *especially* goes HARD in on the combat, with not just combos but the environment worked into the fighting. Genokids is an upcoming hack-and-slash title about a rock band staving off an alien invasion. There's a demo on it out now, definitely recommend you support them. Andd also to check out No Straight Roads and Hi-Fi Rush. Hi-Fi Rush may be the more tight game out of the two, but No Straight Roads isn't "the lesser Hi-Fi Rush" out of the two. NSR does things simpler and smaller, in part because it's a debut title by its respective studio. But it has style, love and respect for music for days, with a nice story and characters to it. Outside of the dedicated hack-and-slash titles, I want to mention the Zeno Clash games. They are brawler/fighter-type games set in a weird, bizarre, stone age/early civilization type world inhabited by MANY weird creatures. A number of them are based on monsters medieval wood carvings, for example. The first two games are first person brawlers, but the most recent title, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, is a prequel that takes an over-the-shoulder third person perspective, and has you travel across the world where you can find different Styles and Special Attacks with unique animations and purposes to equip, unequip and swap between, to customize your own moveset. It's a really solid system where you can make your own fun, depending on the specific stances. And part of the fun would be seeing you react to how bizarre the world and its inhabitants can be. I think what made this playthrough interesting is the fact he struggled more with sundowner than sam which is in funny cos most people view sundowner as the easiest boss given his health and the fact you dont even to destroy his shields to beat him
Having that side dodge is absolutely required for Armstrong plus that polarm is definitely the best when it comes to attacking fast. I definitely had fun my first time through and I also chose the red and black skin too.
Now you gotta try Metal Gear Solid 3. Idk if stealth games is your thing but the story and bosses in that game are amazing, also it's chronologically the first game in the series.
The Armstrong Final Battle is one of the best Final Bosses in any videogame!!! I remember I had such trouble with the Blade Mode rubble throwing sections, and it took me so long to figure out how to actually stop his healing. But amazing Finale.

I think we know what kind of games Dontai likes by now, the violent hack and slash type game where the protagonist feels OP and can literally obliterate their enemies and you just feel powerful playing as them. Kratos, Asura, Deadpool, Wolverine, Dante, Cal Kestis, and now Raiden are one in the same. I wonder who will be next.

Sam fight is pretty straight forward, but on higher difficulties when everybody hits like a tank you’ve died 10x over with the amount of hits you took 😂
Hey Dontai, im excited that you've been playing all these hack n slash ps3 games that i love. I do have a suggestion on the next game to play. Ninja Gaiden would be a great game to play from Ninja gaiden 1-3. I'm not gonna lie. it's a challenging hack n slash series, but it's definitely worth playing.
Good to hear you had fun on this game, and i hope that further clarification in the comments by people on various things in the game will be of interest to you. And also that Dante's Inferno will still stick with you positively in spite of that last section.
For other action or hack-and-slash type games, i'd love to see you play and enjoy the Darksiders series. 2 especially is pretty long, though. It's a somewhat divisive series between each game, with 3 being generally seen as the weakest Darksiders experience, but still an enjoyable game on its own.
A somewhat recent hack-and-slash/character action title by name of Soulstice is one that I hope you may give a chance as well. It's got a lot of cool and interesting stuff and extra lore, and potential for more.
Of course it's got its rough spots and design choices as well. Like it drags on a bit and has uneven pacing, a few particularly annoying enemies (out of the 24) and there is a color coding mechanic in place.
But that's *exactly* why i want people to put more attention on that game: so that it gets more traction, more chance of a sequel, and thus proper constructive feedback to build upon the potential it already has.
(And on the color coding thing: there's a kind of customizable ability tree in which you can mitigate some of the limitations it has and even weaponize them)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 would be interesting to see as well! Though they're both kinda long games. 2 especially has... rough parts to it. The storytelling is rather strange, fast travel system is rather roundabout, and there's some stealth segments that in my opinion aren't too bad (except for ONE) but haven't been something that people remember fondly.
Lords of Shadow is technically a trilogy, with Mirror of Fate being viewed from a 2D perspective that connects 1 with 2 via various important in-universe events. That one got received quite positively, from what i know.
For a shorter title, Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death. In gameplay it's very much like Dante's Inferno, but takes place in South America and thus the mythology takes a slice out of the Meso-American mythology cake. Not as deeply as GoW, but then again, GoW has had six games to delve into that particular mythology by now.
It's very affordable on Steam too! below ten dollars, i believe even below five.
Heavenly Sword and Splatterhouse 2010 are pretty nice times as well-- again, in spite of some tedium. Splatterhouse 2010 especially is a great homage to its original series from like... 1990 or something.
Perhaps the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy may be to your interest. Warrior Within *especially* goes HARD in on the combat, with not just combos but the environment worked into the fighting.
Genokids is an upcoming hack-and-slash title about a rock band staving off an alien invasion. There's a demo on it out now, definitely recommend you support them.
Andd also to check out No Straight Roads and Hi-Fi Rush. Hi-Fi Rush may be the more tight game out of the two, but No Straight Roads isn't "the lesser Hi-Fi Rush" out of the two.
NSR does things simpler and smaller, in part because it's a debut title by its respective studio. But it has style, love and respect for music for days, with a nice story and characters to it.
Outside of the dedicated hack-and-slash titles, I want to mention the Zeno Clash games. They are brawler/fighter-type games set in a weird, bizarre, stone age/early civilization type world inhabited by MANY weird creatures. A number of them are based on monsters medieval wood carvings, for example.
The first two games are first person brawlers, but the most recent title, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, is a prequel that takes an over-the-shoulder third person perspective, and has you travel across the world where you can find different Styles and Special Attacks with unique animations and purposes to equip, unequip and swap between, to customize your own moveset.
It's a really solid system where you can make your own fun, depending on the specific stances. And part of the fun would be seeing you react to how bizarre the world and its inhabitants can be.

I think what made this playthrough interesting is the fact he struggled more with sundowner than sam which is in funny cos most people view sundowner as the easiest boss given his health and the fact you dont even to destroy his shields to beat him
Having that side dodge is absolutely required for Armstrong plus that polarm is definitely the best when it comes to attacking fast. I definitely had fun my first time through and I also chose the red and black skin too.

The Armstrong Final Battle is one of the best Final Bosses in any videogame!!! I remember I had such trouble with the Blade Mode rubble throwing sections, and it took me so long to figure out how to actually stop his healing. But amazing Finale.
