That car was mine I bought it in 2020 it was a barn find covered in mould and moss.I spent so much time and money restoring it full respray all suspension replaced all the brakes and loads of other bits. All tires changed and had the wheels powder coated. (They where gray before the wheels must have been changed) I sold it in 2022 to some guy in Sheffield. I regret selling it. It’s heat-breaking to see it hasn’t been looked after and looks like it’s just been ragged. Please look after it I loved that car

Not the best example of a 00"s hot hatch but not a bad one all the same, these have a lot of potential for the making of a decent little back road blaster or track car, yeah sure when they came out there was some negative press but any and all of it came from the fact they just didnt live up up to the 205 gti's pedigree, which lets face it is a lot to live up too, cars like the 106 gti and 306 gti-6 came closer, nevertheless there is still some of that pug pedigree there it just needs squeezing out, peugeot knew this hence the improved gti 180 a couple years later, this is some really well thought out and put together motor journalism it's nice to see the younger gen taking an interest in these older appreciating classics

Thank you very much! I think it’s an unsung hero of the early 2000’s. It is eclipsed by the other cars you mentioned but it’s definitely impressive, especially for how cheaply you can pick them up these days.

I bought a 2005 1.4 16v Sport for my lad to learn to drive in 9 years ago for £995. It still sits on the drive, only 90hp but that's all it needs. I put a new axle on it (£178 exchange) last year, easy job - I made new brake lines for it (Kunifer) and did the discs and pads at the same time. Nothing wrong with these, I bet with double the bhp it's a scream. His daily is a 2002 E39 4.4 v8 - but he keeps the Pug for economical fun.

Put the RC intake manifold and 70mm throttlebody on a gti140 and put a proper tune on it and itll run 160/165ish HP.
I have the 206CC 2.0l and did exactly that but added catcams and 4-1 supersprint exhaust and its making 180HP now, just need bigger injectors and itll run 200HP. These engines are just phenomenal

Chill out guys, give the lad a break!
1st off, no-one said it was the best example, just one of the best value hot hatches.
Secondly, it sounds like another car reviewer cos it's a car review. You could argue that our lord JC (the farmy one, not the goddy one) sounds a bit like jayemm, too!
This review is urging you to reconsider a car that has not been looked at kindly over the years, so the content perhaps overlaps a little.
@svengrube1 I liked it, it's not as easy as people think to put yourself in front of a camera, drive a car spirited, and speak cohesively, nevermind answering the one question everyone asks: how fast does it go in reverse? 😂
