Thank you bratha Ryan! I see so many channels with massssiive amount of views and such low quality content. Sometimes i ask myself what people are listening to. Strange that this channel is not more popular. Oh well. Glad you are here!
SUPER HELPFUL TIP !!!! Thanks So Much. Long Videos are GREAT, too... but little tips and insights like this that we can apply right away are WONDERFUL. LOVE IT !!!!
Beautiful. Kit sounds beautiful. I love the snare and the brazillian cool latin feel…. The colors u play draw nice carnival pics in my head. I love it❤. Greetings from germany. Andy
Thank you buddy! Sorry for the delay in responding. This comment slipped by me for some reason. For lots more on this subject you can check out my book "The Left Foot Clave Handbook" - philmaturano.com/products-page/ Its a massive study and very complete. I would suggect going this route honestly because there is nothing too easy when it comes to approaching this type of independence. Another thing I would say is to get into this stuff with a very calm and process oriented appoach. It takes a long time to absorb. But honestly its is a very satisfying and beautiful way to play drums.
Depends on where in a song, But in your soloing it helps because your phrases become long. Its kind of Djembe language too. If you check out really great Djembe players they do this but with a few different phrases. Since there is no crash cymbal when you play things like Djembe they have vocabulary that ends phrases like our "crash on one" would. Super interesting and beautiful.
Phil, your channel is just absolutely brilliant. Best jazz drum channel on RUclips.

@@philmaturanodrums Thanks bro, that's exactly what I was looking for.
Completely dig it Phil! Does your book on Latin soloing take students this far (I mean, to play this kind of “idiomatic” solos?
Hi bro! Yes it does and more! Drop me a line when you want.
You never crash in one?
