Phil, your channel is just absolutely brilliant. Best jazz drum channel on RUclips.

Thank you bratha Ryan! I see so many channels with massssiive amount of views and such low quality content. Sometimes i ask myself what people are listening to. Strange that this channel is not more popular. Oh well. Glad you are here!

Any tips on independence exercises with the left foot playing the clave?

Thank you buddy! Sorry for the delay in responding. This comment slipped by me for some reason. For lots more on this subject you can check out my book "The Left Foot Clave Handbook" -

Its a massive study and very complete. I would suggect going this route honestly because there is nothing too easy when it comes to approaching this type of independence. Another thing I would say is to get into this stuff with a very calm and process oriented appoach. It takes a long time to absorb. But honestly its is a very satisfying and beautiful way to play drums.

Completely dig it Phil! Does your book on Latin soloing take students this far (I mean, to play this kind of “idiomatic” solos?

    You never crash in one?

Depends on where in a song, But in your soloing it helps because your phrases become long. Its kind of Djembe language too. If you check out really great Djembe players they do this but with a few different phrases. Since there is no crash cymbal when you play things like Djembe they have vocabulary that ends phrases like our "crash on one" would. Super interesting and beautiful.
