I teach at Juilliard - was fun to see it as part of your final stop. Always enjoy your reviews. My wife and I have seen many, thanks to your recommendations.
Inspired by your first version of this challenge, I attempted to walk to all the west end theatres in 100 minutes. On my first attempt it took 102 minutes, then I tried again with a different route and got down to 101 minutes.
This was great! Would LOVE to see a West End version...but maybe don't tire yourself with a time limit - a "tour" of the West End theatre facades would be awesome
My parents lived on 46th & 8th back in the 1950's when they were first married before they moved to California .I've been to the city many times & Times Square doesn't look nearly as crowded as usual which definitely makes it easier to speed walk there. Still, quite an achievement! 👌
You did a great job, and I loved all the trivia and info about upcoming shows you provided. I can barely remember which shows are coming, much less which theaters they are going into. And thank you for introducing me to the parking garage shortcut between 43rd and 44th. I'm sure I'll use that in the future. And, you actually exited correctly from the 66th St train station, even though you were on the "wrong" side of Broadway at that point. There is a way to get from the uptown platform to the exit in right front of Lincoln Center (if you'd been in the very back of the train), but you have to go through a lot of tunnels and stairs and would probably have taken the same amount of time anyway!
Now that you’ve mentioned the loading doors at the Majestic Theatre twice, I have a great memory for you. When I was on vacation when I was in high school in 1986, I watched them load the chandelier into that door. That was a great trip. Fences with James Earl Jones, Les Miz, starlight Express, me and my girl.
So that section of 48th was briefly named Chavkin Way because she directed both Hadestown and Lempicka. It can now be named Rachel Hauk & David Neumann Way because Rachel designed the sets for both Hadestown and Swept Away AND David choreographed both Hadestown and Swept Away! The more you know. 🌈
Love that you tried again - another nailbiter! You reminded me of the Hadestown shortcut which I forget about, so thank you. BTW the Broadway theatre is one of two Broadway houses actually located on Broadway, the other being the Winter Garden (while the stage door and some of the exits are on 7th Ave, the theater address and entrance is on Broadway itself.) Fun video!
Thanks for taking us along on your challenge! Fun video with great information. I really like the Hudson Theatre and the the raised Palace is nice too.
The Times Square, Church used to be the MMark Hellinger Theatre, it’s most popular tenant was the original cast of my fair Lady. It’s final show with legs diamond. The Nederlander‘s, then gave a 99 year lease to the Times Square Church. It is said to be the most beautiful theater on Broadway. With a beautiful lobby and a grand staircase. Luckily, though, it has been landmarked so the Church cannot make any changes.
Loved you being frantic. It is me. I have my tickets, First or second row center. Vision problems. How many shows in 7 day 10 11 or 12 Desperate to see each show.. Watch out for Flyods Collins. The music and the singing. MUST see. Freaking sings with his echo.
I am tired now! I wrote down your route and may try it when I am there Jan 5th for SUFFS last show 😪 I could only go for that day so I have to cram in as much fun as possible! 😀 I will also go to Smackary's and maybe the giant Reeses peanut butter cup in honor of Aeron 🥰Not many shows perform on Sunday night but at the last minute I found out Hadestown does so I added that to my one day trip!! With two shows, I hope I can still squeeze your route into my day!! The two theatres that are meaningful for me are, The Winter Garden where I saw Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl and The Minskoff, sadly the building One Astor Plaza replaced the iconic Hotel Astor where I stayed when I saw Funny Girl (among 5 other shows!). Sort of a sad feeling. I just saw pt 3 of your trip is now up so off I go to watch that!🤩😍🥰
Next time you are in NYC, you can lead a Broadway walking tour! Put a notice saying you can meet people at the corner of 42nd and Broadway and you'll go on a walking tour with your stagey fans!
Very kind of you to say, but I find most of the people who watch my videos from New York know more about Broadway than I do! Plus there are very knowledgeable folks who do a great job of those already!
The thing I don't get is if Lincoln Center is a subway ride /20 mins away why it's considered Broadway. Surely the Public is nearer and that'snot considered Broadway
Hi! As far as I (grew up close to NYC and travel there every month) understand, location has nothing to do with the Broadway designation, it’s all about how many seats are in a venue specifically designated for theater - 500 or more, usually. The five performance spaces at the Public top out between 99 and 275 people, while Vivian Beaumont has 1,080 seats!
What @rosebyanyname said about venue size is correct, that is the determining factor to be considered "Broadway." But also, the Public is 3 miles from the South end of the theatre district and Lincoln Center is less than 1 mile from the North of the theatre district, so it is actually quite closer.
Please don't spoil the results of the challenge in the comments section!
But do feel free to comment on which Broadway theatre is your favourite!

Wow! I'm impressed by the dedication, perhaps 100 minutes is the goal and I need to try this next?
Good luck getting below the limit!

You should do a Tom Francis style video cast live stroll at the next Mickey Jo Live.
That was so much fun! Yes, the Colbert theatre was the Ed Sullivan theatre.

This is indeed the ULTIMATE workout!
Congratulations on beating the challenge this time, Mickeyjo!
Did you measure your miles/kilometers? I would love to know the distance you power walked!

Ah, but you forgot the Broadway Theatre’s most important tenant: Shrek the Musical.
Worth seeing 480 w 42 at New York the Alice Griffin jewel box theater at the perishing square signature center.
