The band walking around is probably a nod to the Jazz Line which is unique to New Orleans. Whenever a jazz musician passes away, other musicians start a parade around town to celebrate their life and people join in as it passes by them.

Thank you for this video, I was on the fence about wether to go and see Death Becomes Her. This video assisted me in moving this show from a solid maybe over to the yes column - I’ll be seeing it in June 👍🏽

18:44 holiday decorations are sort of scattered in November bc of Thanksgiving. Though many people and businesses put theirs up earlier and earlier, it was expected for many decades that the christmas and winter holiday season doesn't start until after Thanksgiving.

Arriba Arriba is my goto Mexican restaurant in NYC. Have been going there since 1983. Fantastic, although they now open at 4 PM, so lunch there can't happen, which is sad.
I loved DBH. Such a fun show, fabulous scenery, costumes and lighting. Hilarious script and terrific score. And brilliant performances by all. A great night at the theater.

Oh perfect timing!!! My husband’s job just offered him extremely discounted tickets to Death Becomes Her. We’re curious to find out if we should go. I’m excited to watch this video! Thank you, gentlemen!
Ps: I live in NYC but grew up in New Orleans so I know a LOT of Satchmo (Louis Armstrong) songs. That’s a show I really want to see!

Tip for bag/suitcase storage if you travel in and need to head straight to a show or heading out right after attending a show, use an app call Bounce. Bounce has a network of stores/shops and other establishments around the city that will hold onto your bag for hours/ most of the day for fairly cheap. I've done this when checking out of a hotel in the morning but still needing to attend a matinee before catching transportation in the evening. I leave my suitcase/larger back pack and just bring small purse/tote along to the show. (at most its cost me $8 for half day)

When I went to see Cabaret in London, I was so confused by the phone camera stickers, as when we walked in the first thing that happened was that we were given a card with a QR code on to order drinks etc. Fine but you need your camera to do that! Also, while we were still in the queue outside, people had removed them & were taking photos of the theatre.

One of my favorite things to do while watching your vlogs is to look at the menus of the places you’re eating and try to figure out what I could/would eat there - and I’m pleased to report that the Meatball Shop actually has a pretty respectable vegetarian/vegan selection! I wasn’t necessarily expecting it, but it’s gone on my NYC list

I was there that week (Thurs-Monday). When I went to an 8:30pm Friday performance of Oh Mary! I was really struck by the vibe of the audience. It was almost as if they were super fans who had seen the play multiple times. I've never felt such an electric show. That said, I can see why people from other countries wouldn't "get" a lot of the gags as there are historical references to the Civil War. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of people shouting horrible insults. For me, the audience vibe was greater than the show. Any time a play is a hit on Broadway, I'm happy as I love plays. This one didn't even need a big name actor. Bravo!

Sadly I don't think my financial experience in New York will be particularly helpful - we're very lucky to be able to stay with friends and the majority of the tickets I get are part of press allocations. What I will say is that $100 a day on food is a pretty realistic expectation, that's before we bought merch!

Get an Airbnb with a kitchen and cook most of your meals.
Carry an empty water bottle and fill up in a public library for free.
      For tickets, rush/lottery/TKTS.
Do not take Uber, the train will be cheaper and faster.

How was the view from your seats at Maybe Happy Ending after people sat in front of you? When I was there I was in the rear row of the mezzanine, I had an obstructed view of the things that were up a level on the stage due to the balcony overhang but could see the front of stage. Thankfully since nobody was sitting behind me I could lean forward to look past the balcony overhang. I love this show, seen it twice so far. I have tickets to closing night at The Notebook, thinking of going to see MHE again during that day...tickets seem to be selling now.
I like the Usher at the Belasco that says "Welcome to the beautiful Belasco Theater"

    • @MickeyJoTheatre

I actually preferred the view I had on my first visit, which was three seats from the furthest right end of the front row of the balcony (you can see on part 3 of the vlog I think). It's just about not too wide, you miss a couple of window details in the set but you never worry about missing things at the very front, which I started to higher up.

I have been watching your vlogs and agonising for a few days now because I have this tiny window of opportunity to go to Broadway for the first (and probably last, given my financial situation and the whole living-in-Australia thing) time in March as I'll be in Philadelphia for a conference and can duck down. But it's such a short trip and with other commitments I can only pick ONE show 😭
I'm trying to decide between Maybe Happy Ending and Cabaret. I'm a fan of both Adam Lambert and Darren Criss, so that doesn't help me decide. For someone who has never seen any production of either show, which would you recommend? I'm having analysis paralysis!

This may sound like a dumb question, but do you have to get an alcoholic drink to get the shows cups? If not, is the cup usually built into the price of the regular drinks?
On a side note, this series brings me so so so much joy! I’m going to New York in jan and I cannot wait! Thank you for this series, it’s shown me such brilliant places to check out and all the tips and reviews have been incredibly helpful! Thank you so much 🩷🩷

What A Wonderful World was the first bio-musical that made me dislike the main character.....for the first 3/4 it tells the story of a serial adulterer who doesn't seem to care about the many women he is hurting and discarding along the way. The last 1/4 didn't compensate. I didn't learn much about Louis Armstrong.....and I'm not sure who the audience is for a musical about him. I call it a miss (current grosses suggest it has not found an audience).

Plus the more serious jazz fans would rather hit one of the actual jazz clubs through NYC and hear active performers currently on the scene, rather than attend a Broadway musical with impersonations of past jazz performers.
