Check this out, Scotty; Tesla tried to force a customer to pay $4,500 ransom over 80 miles of range that the company software-locked in his battery pack.
everyday is a bad day for a ford owner.
..... but which is it???? Army or Marines? Maybe there's a computer for that one? Haha!!!
Master cylinder.
@@girthbrooks5078 Not me, haha! My Ford is fine. Of course it's 24 y/o,,,
I don’t care about the price I would definitely get mine fixed. Brakes are nothing to take a chance on!
💯💯👍
I saw a video on RUclips of a guy who brakes failed on is 1100hp car that sure was a beautiful classic
Look up "brakes fail" on RUclips 😂
@@kensonferguson9911 That video is an example of why you never neglect your braking system.
Yep, brakes and tires are two things you should never cheap out on
The fact that Scotty is a millionaire and still makes videos for normal people is pretty cool.
I don’t care how many turbos you put on it, nobody wants a 4 cylinder mustang. If you’re gonna pile your mustang into a crowd of onlookers you want a damn v8 🤣
Exactly mate and not to mention that these EcoBoost engines won't outlast the Coyote V8 as well.
Honestly I don’t care if you have a 4,6,or 8 cylinder engine they all how their ups and down but getting rid of a 6 cylinder for 4 cylinder mustang is one of the only times I don’t like a engine just doesn’t fit a mustang
I can't believe I've been missing out on Scotty for so long. The man is a national treasure. :)
Scotty IS a millionaire and he is still sharing his knowledge. He rocks!
I just checked on Rock Auto, because they have an easy to use website, and a new Motorcraft master cylinder is $110. A new Motorcraft power brake booster is $215, and a Cardone rebuilt one is $175. Pretty low prices for such a new car. That's one thing about having a popular car, parts tend to be cheap.
American and Japanese cars always have cheap parts.
Brake fluid stops working after 5yrs or 60K, sticking seals and components. Mechanics usually don't change fluid when doing a brake job. Change all of the brake fluid....could be that easy.
@@sp-yj5wr used to work at a shop, we always recommend a brake flush every time they replace their brakes and rotors. Very convenient yet the vehicle handles better
@@Luke_MoonWalker _American parts yeah but not Japanese parts._
Scotty is so right on point .I had this problem and the bore inside the Master Cylinder was letting fluid by .They fixed it with a new Master Cylinder.
that's probably the same problem to come..found on road dead

Lol, he gets in my old mark viii, & puts it into gear. It was so smooth , he didn't think it went from park to drive. Eldorado buyers got shafted too. Those cars were blowing up at 30 k. I made a video at the junkyard, a lonnnnng line of Eldorados, nice paint, nice interiors, none of them were wrecked, they All had Blown motors. Rust all over the heads...GM never payed back they're bailout. Yes there's some ford vehicles I don't care for. But I could still., Make em get down the highway safely, & for a fraction of GM garbage motors. Jus sayin. If you like GM, May I suggest the cattlecrack Eldorado, or Sedan duhville. If your low on cash, find an old Lincoln. If it's slammed due to worn bags,. No worries, it's an ez fix for the average Joe.
You should make a video about this
Check out the new one too before install - I once bought one casted defectively, leaked at the top seal.
I also have a 2015 Ford Mustang V6 with the exact same problem. I haven't fixed it because it usually works fine, but if I sit idling at a dead stop in traffic it gets a little dicy. Feels like the brake booster for sure! Once I get moving and it builds a little air pressure it works fine again. Will replace the booster one of these days, or trade the car in. 100,000 miles with no other problems, and I love the V6.
you can also see if it's the booster if you can hear an air leak down by your feet.
Brake fluid stops working after 5yrs or 60K, sticking seals and components. Change all of the brake fluid....could be that easy.
@@sp-yj5wr to say brake fluid just stops working after 5 years is complete nonsense
@@dos1763 It depends on how hygroscopic the brake fluid is. Water contamination can make brake fluid useless because it can boil under heavy use, and freeze in Winter. There's a reason brake fluid needs to be changed.

@@billbryant9995 the green berets are pretty badass too!
Those aluminum ABS actuators can cause that “internal leakage” as well if they are defective or broken. Nissan had a huge campaign to replace them when I worked for the dealer just a couple of years ago.
IIRC Ford Edge has this exact same problem, not the booster or master cylinder.
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics has an excellent video on how to determine if it's the master cylinder or the actuators.
That’s where Scotty said it didn’t appear to be a leaky HCU…no codes , but that doesn’t always mean it’s not a leaky dump valve. I would suspects a leaky dump valve if someone recently had the brake system opened up and bleed the brakes to get crud into the HCU.
I could see that or possibly a bad master but no way a bad booster
I’ll bet Scotty knew the problem before he got the expensive diagnostic tool came out. Even after the invention of all the computers the cars still have some basic mechanics that haven’t changed for years.
I hate it when the brake sinks. I'd replace it.
We need more honest mechanics like Scotty
like scotty says techs dont get paid enough so instead of taking time on a certain problem they do it quick the more they do they more they get paid

My mother had a situation after we had been out in my car, came home, had to move the cars around. My mom started her 83 Reliant, and when i looked up from my car she was across the street, up on the concrete wall, and had hit the home across the way slightly - this could have been driver error, but the mechanic also found where the brake booster had been leaking internally, and said that may have caused a runaway condition AND diminished braking - and she had a very short distance to react. I have been concerned that perhaps some of the accidents attributed to driver error on the elderly may actually be parts like this that may wear differently due to the cars no longer being driven daily, and perhaps sitting for a few days or a week at a time - had the car repaired, never had this happen again.
My mother was a terrible driver too.
Was your mom hammered?
Got this same exact car, taking good care of it and never pushing it. Works great at 108k but got that brake recall recently too
You remind me I did get a recall for my 2015.
why do you have a mustang and not push it??

Does anybody remember when Scotty actually made car repair videos?
He said the dude didn't want to change the master cylinder. What do you expect him to do?
He still does sometimes
I’d still call this a diagnostic video
He just did. Proper diagnostic is the most important step of repair.
He showed how to figure out brake problems in mustangs.
Hi, If this Mustang never had the brakes flushed, I would try that first. Sometimes fresh brakes fluid would resolves this issue and it is not an expensive service.
New fluid doesn't make a difference, but a brake system with air trapped in it will cause those symptoms and needs to be bled, which requires new fluid to top back up
I have absolutely no interest in cars, yet I can't stop watching Scotty and his videos! Love this guy!
Same! Even when I have no idea what he’s talking about with an engine or something, it’s still entertaining because of his gesticulating and dynamic voices 😂

@@CJColvin Call me weird, but my favourite era of Mustang is the fox platform. The LX with the 5.0 was arguably one of the last true muscle cars.
My 2017 F150 was recalled for a brake master cylinder leaking internally into the brake booster and they replaced the brake master cylinder for free. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of a bad batch and gets recalled.
Never a sad day for this ford owner 🤷♂️
Oh my. A mustang 7 yrs old with over 130,000 miles needs a new master cylinder other wise runs like a top. How will Ford and all Ford owners survive this ?
Hahaha I see what you did there
I would replace both the master and booster. It's a nice car and should be kept in top condition.
Shame on the dealership mechanic for not checking the brakes by holding the pedal when starting in the first place.
Just look in the master cylinder with someone standing on the brakes , you can usually see fluid coming back into the reservoir .
I'd replace it as soon as possible. Especially if it was my wife driving it everyday. I understand money issues and maybe even her not getting to work that day. But I'd still find away to make sure she was safe when she was driving. To many had drivers out there. You need your brakes to be at 100% all the time
Dang scotty! I can’t help but to worry about your blood pressure when you’re making these videos! Be safe
Scotty, I have had forty cars in my life, everything from a Sunbeam Alpine to a Jaguar and three Corvettes and four Thunderbirds. My 2016 Mustang is the best car I’ve ever had. It’s fast, comfortable, nimble and thoroughly dependable. I literally have only had to repair the AC and driver’s window under warranty. Nothing else. I love my s550 model Mustang too I am on my third. Remarkable vehicles but I just don’t trust the dealership mechanics anymore.

5.0 coyote was the best/reliable motor. Change my mind.
I'm not. I agree
Yeah you’re right, but if you get an upgraded shortblock for the ecoboost and do regular maintenance and have a catch can they can be very reliable too
Why change your mind? Your absolutely correct.
NA V8 will have more than twice the useful life. Your probably better off modifying your own engine with strengthening and an aftermarket turbocharger and learning to do the maintenance yourself than most of the factory turbo cars from the manufacturers. The BMW turbo motors barely last 100K miles and almost all their cars have turbos now.
The Ford V8 isn't as stout as the GM but the overhead cam sound is so much better than over head valvers
@@jbrockway5.0 I drove an 2018 eco and it was insane. I just don’t trust them long term in any car/truck. I’ll take the hit on mpg.
I've driven one, and they pull. Problem is, those four cylinders cannot take the beating that an 8 cylinder can take. As the old saying goes, "there's no replacement for displacement." Those 4 cylinders 10 years from now the 4 banger is going to be worn out because they have smaller parts which translates to shorter strokes, and tighter tolerances. I just don't see these engines holding up the way a V8 can. Especially with those Turbos. I'd ont care for those wonky 10 speed transmissions either. I much prefer an 6-8 speed.
The one in this video has a 6 speed.
Scotty,
One thing I don't think you mentioned before. Dealers, (I think everyone of them), do want to find a problem so they can rip you off. They tell you they can hook up their fancy diagnostic machine to find the problem. The only bad thing is that they will not hook it up until the person agrees to pay them about $150.00 to do it. They try to convince the car owner that they have to get money back for buying the expensive diagnostics machine.
If you spend $5000 on a diagnostic machine, I’m sure you’d want to get every penny back for it too
Lol, It's a business. Do you think Scotty works for FREE" Yes, dealers can be more expensive. & Often it's worth it! I personally don't go to them unless I have to. Like my clutch for my 91 SR5 V6 Xtra cab 4X4. I wasn't about to do that. I don't have the facilities, the tools, or the expertise. Lol I'd bet you Scotty wouldn't touch it either! They did a Great Job. & When I brought it back a few 1000 Mike's later for adjustment, the Best in the west MR Suzuki, test drive it, & adjusted it, in about 30 seconds. I enjoy helping people where I can. But these shops need to feed they're families as well..
And so do I. That being said. Get your own scan tool, & stay away from places you can't afford. I know I do!
That’s how us tech get paid all that money doesn’t just go to the dealer and people don’t understand. We have to use our tools our knowledge to diag the car. We get paid for the jobs we do not get paid hourly or salary. Know one goes to work for free.
Why would a company and a technician spend there money time and education to fix your car for free? Get real 5k won’t buy a dealerships diag equipment. I personally own the same equipment the ford dealership owns and my annual cost is more than that and I own the equipment. The technician working on it is paid a percent of what your charged. Why should his family do without and not receive any income from his time knowledge and tools? Your so special that the technician and dealership owe you? Do you get free products and services from Walmart? Remember you don’t pay a technician for what he does, your paying for what he knows. A good technician ain’t cheap. Not having a good technician gets expensive real quick.
Hmmm...If my braking system is acting up I get it fixed. Who knows when a problem that "isn't a safety concern" at present could turn into just that. Do not gamble with your brakes or tires people!
I had one Ford mustang and it just wasn't a good experience when it broke down. I owned a 1990 miata I've driven since 2014 and I still love it. When it brakes down no problem I'm on the road in a day or two fixing it myself. It's been down about five times. 3 Alternators , 1 electrical connector, and a battery. I know I know the mustang I had was a four banger too but even a v8 I don't think would beat the reliability and the smiles per gallon of the miata.
V8 smiles per gallon would definitely be higher. Miles per gallon not so much
Im never buying a car ever again because they all suck the mechanics suck, moduals suck, brakes suck, fluid sucks, codes suck, no v8 noise, weight ratio sucks, tork sucks. Regular gas sucks, data sucks,
When Scotty takes out his monster scan tool i get goose bumps all over my body....
Only happens after you drive it awhile lol, so this guys idea is to just let it go until it quits working in the worst situation and then you have no breaks. If you have an issue you should fix it, if you wait the problem becomes worse cost you more money or you may even wreck possibly kill someone.
Nice work Scotty, you have great communication skills. I hope you and your family are enjoying their summer. I certainly am, doing a lot of bicycle riding and taking on online class
A Mustang with a 4 cylinder? I thought those things went out in the late 70s!
There were fox bodies in the 80s that had 4 bangers
11 minute video for a 5 minute diagnostic, man can Scotty rattle on and on, over and over saying the same thing no less than a half of a dozen times...I still enjoy him and enjoy his videos, but damn.
that's why we love him
I hate that Ford quit making the
Mustang GT’s look better than the regular Mustangs. That would be like if Dodge offered the wide body with the hood scoop on the V6.
It’s always amazing what you learn watching uncle Scotty!
i love mine and i love them quietness about it when u leave the club or drive late at night no one can hear you
Really good point Scotty made in this video, is that temperature and humidity levels do affect the mechanical parts of vehicles. Here in Montreal we go from 30 to -30 celsius maximums from summer to winter. I do definitely notice that in the winter I spend more on gas and that the engine is more noisy on my car, especially within the first 20 minutes of start-up.
EVERY day is a sad day for Ford owners.
That’s okay.

Master cylinder brake it's only going to get worser
Scotty is always kind with the words when people comes over with their precious cars.
laf except Fords
WRONG!...(maybe). Common problem is the hydraulic control unit and ABS seals stick with no codes. It comes from very old brake fluid. (Most mechanics do not change the brake fluid during a brake job). Brake fluid is only good for about 5yrs or 60K. Try bleeding entire brake system and give it time for new brake fluid. Problem may go away........or yeah, change the wrong parts like booster and they'll have to put new brake fluid in and problem will go away..for awhile. Love your vids Scotty!
That was great advice Scotty, I check my Mustang GT all the time just to be safe. 😎🙏👍
Someone forgot to clean the engine bay for well ever...
Two things that should never be in the same sentence: 1) Mustang. 2) 4-cylinder. This, quite simply, is un-American and wrong.
Hi Scotty,
I've experienced this with my mini bus and it's the master cylinder piston rubber seal is bad. In my case the fluids were going into the master resiviour.
I used to want this car. It looks like a fun car, but I can't get over how it doesn't have that Mustang growl from the engine.
The GT does. Sounds amazing. The ecoboost isn’t really something I’d want either.
The 4 banger DOES NOT look the same as the GT. The grille(honeycomb with columns), hood(two vents) and wheels are different.
The wheels aren't different, that all depends which wheels that they put on it, not the engine type. I'm pretty sure on some other mustangs they look the same as their different engine counterparts, but also some are different no matter what engine it is... It's quite difficult to specify if the models looks the same or different.
@@CommentRodent the grille 100% depends on the engine. The wheels are different on the proformance pack and the brembo calipers.
The reason the master in this car failed is because the engine has 50% of the cylinders it should have. If a Mustang has 4 cylinders, it really doesn't need brakes at all.
20.3 Per gallon with his foot to the floor
Sadder than the day they became a ford owner?
If you wanna save gas and be a hippy, buy a prius. If you want to be a American, buy a reliable and naturally aspirated V8.
Lol Americans can't make reliable cars want the best of both world one can't go wrong with a V8 tundra
After thinking over the years I have to say the mustang has a better look than GTR.
Personally, while I would love having a 5.0 Mustang, I think I would actually prefer the quieter I4 engines. My next-door neighbor's daughter has a 5.0 Mustang, and every time she goes somewhere, it's loud enough for us to be able to hear it in the house.
P.S. I love that Scotty always shows the pope when he says, 'You can't trust anybody." 🤣
Might very well be , partially why she likes it .
@@indycharlie I would say so, but tbh, I think it's more her dad's car than it is hers. Whenever I ask about it, he's the one who nerds out about it😂
@@blackswan7568 That is funny ! Is it a standard ? If so , I am sure he is way " Nerd City " on it :D
@@indycharlie It is😆

Why would you buy anything but a V8 in a Mustang 🐎
Afternoon Scotty! Ask miss kilmer not to sell the Lexus!
afternoon and I'm on it!
I took mine to Pocono Raceway and got 8.3 mpg averaging 101 mph and top speed of 143 mpg. Really not bad for a V8 with 460 hp and 420 ft/lb of torque.
Subaru mechanics did the same thing to me, engine issues; after i went to my trusted mechanic, it was the timing chain that needed replacement at 100k miles.
Chain? or Belt? what year Subi?
@@slingbart705 chain/2015.
My 2012 v6 ford mustang needed a water pump replacement. That has been the only repair I've made. It's been incredibly reliable.
Shhhhh.... don't let the following RUclips punks hear what you said - 'Buff Barnaby', '1717jbs', 'The Ball', 'R.W'. 'SEA BASS', 'girth brooks', and so on. They'll wet their beds... again....
I have a 2012 v6 Mustang and the Waterpump is the only replacement I had to make. My car now has 136kMiles. When did your water pump go out mine went out at approximately 70kmiles.
@@christophermunoz2568 it went out at 50k
I have the 2.3L mustang and I love it. I bought mine in cash because they’re like 10k-15k than the GTs cheaper used with the same miles. I average about 26 mpg and I still have fun in it.
I got my 4.6L sohc tuned to get 27mpg. I am not impressed with these EcoBoost engines at all.
Beautiful looking car as well
I had 2 2.3l mustangs. I ended up now with a 3.7 because i LOVE the sound and still average 22 in the city! Great car for the money!
Economic but not old school anymore . Sad
@@williamnichols539 I have a 3.7 the economist is not a bad car at all if it was anything but a mustang it would be a top 10 muscle car … they don’t deserve that kinda hate
sad day for youtube personalities
Where is the bonus questions and answers?
I have a 2016 same car, same colour, same wheels. I run the premium gas in it and the thing runs like a top.
How many miles are on it?
@@BIendtecc 80000km or about 50000 miles
A Mustang with a 4-banger? Takes all the fun out of owning the car
Its basically a Ford fusion with a mustang body!
@@realcreamofwheat7728 Maybe a fusion sport with the twin turbo 6 cyl.
I owned one they are pretty quick
My Boss has the same car Ecoboost Mustang, yes 2017, he has more than 180K miles, It gets its fluid on time. He loves that car, zero issues
Well I thought FORD found out the secret to making cars just like Toyoto or Mazda... Actually Mazda told them how to do it, and years later FORD still doesn't know how to build a reliable car. So sooo sad.
I have a 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 210,000 miles and still going strong. The only things I replaced on my truck was the starter, the rear fuel pump, and the power steering megunisum but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance, took out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. I also have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 147,000 miles on it and still going strong as well and its a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla ATAK exhaust on it.
Scotty, Scotty, you got to change the master cylinder. I've worked on cars professionally since 1960 and master cylinders are always going out. You don't take a chance whether it's a little leak or big leak. You replace the master cylinder with the new OEM. You can't take the liability to tell the customer to drive it's not too bad.
Good video. I remember my parents had a his and her Ford Maverick, light green for mom and dark green for dad. And yes, stay very far away from Chinese brake parts.
Avoid Chinese tires too.
Clean that engine bay 😱
I remember on "The Golden Girls" Fords in St. Olaf were called "Fjords" One of Rose's neighbors owned a Fjord Fairlane.
Maybe the Mustangs with the 3.7 didn't make the power of the turbo 2.3 they do seem to hold up better. Normally I would avoid a 3.5 or 3.7 that was front drive because of the water pump but in the rear drive cars Ford used a different water pump that was outside the engine so you didn't have to pull the whole thing to replace it.
Sorry. But, that's not correct. I have a 2016 F150, 3.5 Flexfuel. It has the internal water pump. Same thing for the Ecoboost 3.5 motors as well. Not one of Ford's better ideas.
What ?! Are pigs flying now ? Wow im shocked !!!!!! THE DEALER DID NOT CHARGE HIM !!!! Wow!!!!! He needs to play the mega millions!!!!!!
I thought every day was a sad day for Ford owners. But it seems this mustang held up well.
Dealerships and some repair shops are now charging $ 250.00, for what is called
a "Diagnostic test", even if you know why you are taking your car in.
Good afternoon Scotty. That Mustang still looks good for the mileage. If I were to buy a Mustang I would want the V8
I think I would like a 6 or 4 if I can swap a V8 into it . Or buy one with a blown engine and good body
@@donaldstepp4850 Lots more to it than just a motor swap..
Yeah there is a ton of parts you need done transmission swaps basically needed a donor car
@@donaldstepp4850 For sure, but basically the entire chassis, power/drivetrain are entirely different in late model V6 vs V8 (GT) Mustangs. So a motor swap wouldn't build you the same car. It'll be cheaper and easier to just start with a GT
Isn't every day a sad day for Ford owners??
