I'm the same. I think with a lot of the new mics, the artists have their sensitivity too high. You know how if someone gently scratches your back, it feels great at first, but if they keep going over the same spot, it's irritating? I think it's kinda like that. There's a balance between it being gentle and being overstimulating.

This is it. The video that got me hooked and made me discover ASMR. Maria, how about filming some remakes of some of your early classic videos like this one???
This was my very first ASMR video too, and it relaxed me so much that now, 8 years later, I still watch ASMR to sleep, and Maria's channel is still one of my favourites!
Small story. This was the first ASMR video I ever watched and has always been my favourite :) A few weeks ago an accident resulted in something exploding very close to me, damaging my ears (more my left than my right) and I haven't really been able to hear properly since. Doctors just said give it a lot of time and see how much it recovers (there being no way to treat this sort of thing). This is the first asmr video I've watched since (through fear of how bad my ears were) and I heard EVERYTHING (not perfectly clearly and no 'tingles' or anything, but heard all the 3d-ness) I can't tell you how good that felt after weeks of half-deafness. So I just wanted to say thankyou so much! This is beyond words! :D (also, look after your ears, people!)
This is still one of my favorite ASMR videos. I LOVE when Maria says “we want someone to tell us that we are appreciated. I want to be that person for you”. It makes me feel so comforted and relaxed.
This was the first ASMR video I ever watched and I remember reading the comments and everyone was talking shit about the pubic hair wallpaper. Scrolling down years later and people are still talking shit about the pubic hair wallpaper.
I remember ripping this audio from youtube when I was 11 and downloading it to my little mp3 player before I had a phone, so I could listen to it before bed. The nostalgia is real--sometimes this is the only video that will make me sleep still. Thanks for always being there for me Maria 💖
Omg please please do a 2022 version of this video for its 10 year anniversary in September 2022, it would be so iconic since this video is the introduction video to ASMR for so many people including me 🥺🙏🏽
I remember seeing this as a kid. I had such a horrible fear of the dark and vivid nightmares I was scared to go to sleep. Any sound or creak in my home out freak me out. When I first discovered ASMR I would loop this video helped me so much, I could pretend the creaks were a part of the video and just the calming sounds and voice would help me stay calm. All that to say i really appreciate all the work you’ve put into the channel and I’m sure it’s helped so many people like me
Ephemeral Rift has a shoe clicking video that I absolutely love! It's called the Professor's Shoes! Another good one is Footsteps on Wood by Made in France ASMR
I read an article about ASMR in the train on my way home 10 years ago. It talked about videos of people folding towels and whispering. And how this was supposed to relax the viewer. This was hilarious to me, so I planned to check out this phenomenon when I got home to get a good laugh. This was the first video I watched and unexpectedly got tingles from it. Addicted ever since ❤
After watching this video every night for a week now it turns out the sounds really relax me i get tinges all own my head and body its the strangest most comforting effect . i must admit when i first saw these sort of videos i was a little like WTF but it really does help to sooth and relax, I think its magical
Yea I love when you feel your scalp tingle and it starts to move around tickling your soul. I use surround sound headphones and feels orgasmic but without any of the negative effects.
I remember years ago.. It was the first time for me to see an ASMR video ! And it was you Maria ! I was like.. what the f***k is that kind of video .. And now, like million people, i'am a huge fan, an addict and a creator. You are inspiration for me and for all of us. Thank you Maria ! You made it well you deserve all you have and I just want to say : Congrats =) A virtual friend =)
And she has like almost a billion views now. Maria was my first Asmr, and the late 2000’s before it was called asmr I would search RUclips for any of the very few whisper videos available at the time, the community was really tiny back then
Maria is very different from other asmrtists. Her videos has something special that I can't explain, even using common triggers she makes extremely relaxing videos. She is special!
I remember vividly the first time I ever watched this video. I wanted to take a nap but I couldn't I was having a really hard time falling asleep. & actually in general I was having a very hard time in my life, & my medication I was talking at the time kept me wide awake. I would never be able to really sleep soundly, I remember typing into RUclips "voices to fall asleep to" & this is what I found. & I fell in love with the videos! Thank you Maria for all you do!!!! ❤️ you are a m a z i n g! I listen to you every night now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Random, but I listened to this most of my labor with my son. This was so soothing and I will forever think of that time anytime I watch this ❤ thank you for comforting me during such a vulnerable time Maria
@@permacultists How is this less functional? I’m a addict and watching her videos bring me the same feeling, well almost, that using would do. OMG i thought i was the only one who experienced this.... i used to have the "tingles" when people would do my hair or when people would talk very softly and I just thought I was weird until I found this channel and realized that I have ASMR! Thank you maria
I used to experience ASMR as a child when my sister/ friends would play with my hair or whisper in my ears. I think this video is the first ASMR video I watched, been hooked ever since:) and apart from the ignorance of people who either don't experience ASMR or don't know what it is and are quick to judge, everyone is lovely and I have lots more triggers I never had before :)
until right now i srsly didnt know this was a thing. but i have those "tingles" all my life i can remember it very clearly when i was listening to a soft voicei sometimes even got some kind of paralysis going on where i was just sitting there listening. even to man voices :D kind of weird but hey.
The comments on here lol... Maria if you read this comment, please know that I and so many people greatly appreciate your videos. Others may call it weird or sexual and look down on us but your videos help me out so much. When I'm feeling sad and alone I watch this and feel relaxed and loved, even if we have never interacted. You just have a way of letting others feel cared for, even if I am just one of your many subs, I still feel that individualized love. Sorry if that's weird :p happy new year!
Whenever anything reaches the mainstream, every pleb and basic on the Internet has to find some way to shit all over it for no reason. I can only hope that Maria can look past the bullshit that comes with notoriety and see that she still has real fans.

+David Boon, I once didn't eat Or swallow my saliva for 2 weeks, it. Caused me to lose 3 stone, I also used to wash my hands whenever I touched anything, which destroyed my hands, and it lead to me (for about 3 months) to wear gloves covered in hand cream.
+David Boon, yes, the earliest this happened was when I was 2, and I had 3 other occasions where this happened, but I've had treatment for it and it has not happened for over 2 years now.
+David Boon The anxiety is not as bad as it was, but it still affects my life, Yes, I do have a lot of friends, some I've had for years now, and yes, it is hard for me to speak as I always will stutter whenever I talk to someone, or when I'm on a stage etc.
It's crazy for me to think that this was my first ever ASMR video that I watched and I totally remember it. I'm sure I didn't watch this in 2012 but rather 2014-2015 and since then, I've been sleeping to ASMR every day! It is just part of who I am right now.
I like how you really get a feel for some unique qualities she holds and how she expresses that in a gentle and sweet way. Its like you get to know her through her videos and she becomes a gentle friend, not just someone who does ASMR at you.
That's because a lot of people have switched to condenser microphones instead of dynamic mics. Condensers like Yetis and 3Dios are designed for podcasts and interviews, whereas dynamic mics are meant for singing and raw vocals. That's why they have a more natural quality compared to the refined "perfect" sound that condensers have.
@@BBK83 I don’t know what y’all are talking about, using a binaural/stereo mic is pretty standard nowadays. Not just for Maria, but every ASMR creator. I recommend her rainbow themed video, it’s got some binaural action there
@@mackenzy.mp4 They're talking about condenser mics vs dynamic mics. I personally prefer dynamic mics such as the Shure SM58, but you'll rarely see that being used for ASMR (especially these days).
@@vantablack3831that’s not correct. The difference between a dynamic and a condenser microphone is a dynamic microphone is better for capturing loud, strong sounds, particularly in a live setting, whereas a condenser microphone is used to capture more delicate sounds and higher frequencies in a studio setting. A condenser will generally be a lot more sensitive but also often have a quieter noise floor. I think what we are getting from modern asmr is this lack of hiss from the better quality microphones and the sound treated room preventing echo.
@@GarthIvers Dude, that's the exact same info. All you did was provide "settings" I said dynamic mics were good for singing and raw vocals. What do you think a live performance is? Loud, raw vocals. Whereas condensers, as we both have stated, are designed for sensitive audio where slight noises are equalized to be audible, yet not overwhelming. Where are podcasts and interviews recorded in? Studios.
ItsJudyTime sent me here! This is seriously amazing and I never knew anything like this existed!! I love the feeling of someone playing with my hair and I get that feeling just by listening to your videos!!
I feel really lucky to have discovered my ASMR at this age (im only 13), so i have more time to explore my triggers and tingles. GentleWhispering is my go to girl for everything, and i adore her... i really now only enjoy soft, slower videos, and every time I ask for suggestions, i get a faster paced vid... anyone out there have any channel or video suggestions? I get huge waves of tingles from GentleWhispering though... if u are reading this, i love u!
This is the first video I have ever watched of yours, and I have loved you ever since. Pay no attention to the haters. I am the world's worst sleeper suffering from anxiety/depression. I was diagnosed with this 4 years ago and have had it since I was 13 years old :-/. I am watching this now to help me fall asleep. Maria (that's also my mother's name) I love you and as long as you're doing these videos you have a faithful listener in me. Mwwwah :)
I can't believe how many times I've listened to this video on repeat in the background while I do stuff on the computer..... it's SOOOOOOOOO relaxing and the tingles.. omg the tingles brain-gasm.
This is where it all started for me. This was my very first asmr video. I’m so thankful to have stumbled upon this video so many years ago. Thank you so much Maria, you’re truly an amazing gem
ASMR has randomly happened to me throughout life mainly when watching someone very focused on something their doing. A calming, tingly sensation in the base of my skull and neck. I never knew what it was or why it happened until buzzfeed randomly uploaded a video about it. I ended up here, and in heaven watching this absolutely relaxing video. The feeling took over and I am so relaxed, which I never get. Just incredible.
I thought I was the only one who felt tingles while someone was super focused on something or doing something for me and putting lots of effort in and concentrating hard... I wonder if that's some kind of trigger? Because that's one of my favorite feelings in the world
Rahao Dinoranger He was joking lol. It would be impossible for one person to watch anything 5 million times. Example... If the same person watched this video 50 times a day for one whole year, that would only be 18,250 views. If they watched this video 50 times a day for 100 years, that would still only be 1,825,000 views. It would take just under 274 years watching this video 50 times a day to watch this video a total 5 million times LMAO. Good luck! ;-)
Rahao Dinoranger Oh okay, it's cool. I actually wanted to add that up anyway just to see how long it would take lol. That's pretty crazy that it would take about 274 years. Wow.
Holy moly, I remember when you posted this. I can't believe that was seven years ago! Thank you for being such a relaxing presence in our lives for so long!
Asmr is like a drug. I started watching just to relax on weekends, now I can't sleep without it, I dont spend much quality time with my family anymore, got late with my readings and perform lousy at work, all because all I want is relaxing to the sound of whispers...
+Joao Paulo Santos This will pass. It feels good to FEEL GOOD!!! Try using it as a reward for a hard days work or replace TV watching with listening to your ASMR. I twitched so much while watching this because my body gently twitches while I'm falling asleep and I almost fell asleep like 50 times but I was struggling to stay awake because I wanted to watch the whole video LOL. The combination of twitching and tingles made me feel like I was losing control of my own body. It was intense.
+Corey Jukes it only happens when I'm falling asleep, usually when I'm fighting it. I've always heard that it was normal and have seen others (usually children) twitch while falling asleep too. I wasn't twitching bc of the video, I was twitching bc I was fighting sleep. The video just gave me tingles like everyone else who's sensitive to ASMR and the combination felt pretty intense. Thank you for your concern though :)
+entercotornist they are comparable in the sense that they are tv shows and cartoons that being in a similar age group. if I had to compare it to something...compatible id compare it to teen titans
I just found out about ASMR tonight off of a TableTalk video, went to the Wikipedia article, came out extremely skeptical. After about 5 minutes of watching this, I felt the exact kind of tingling in my head people claim. Actually startled me so much that it took me out of the moment, but I'm no longer a skeptic. Good video!
Always nice to hear stories like this :D Discovering your tingles can sometimes be a difficult journey. Accepting the tingles then getting others(Non-Asmr) to accept them. Tip: Don't overdose , you can get tingle immunity(luckily Curable).
She has always had a talent for this! Even as a bit awkward and not yet as refined as her techniques are now, her innate ability can be seen here. ASMR is truly her calling. Love you, Maria.
+welte92 same here, theres a few times I watched it for hours straight for weeks.. I actually needed to take a break to get tingles again. its so insane
Same! it stole my childhood, disconnected me from family and friends, i lost my job, and diddnt care, because i had asmr, i was sent to rehab after nearly dying aftrr a tingle overdose. saved my life. now i come to the comments to warn people of the addictive nature!
Out of all the comments I've read, I can deduct 3 things: 1) I don't have "ASMR" 2) People who do have "ASMR" can't take criticisms about it 3) It creeps me the hell out. Someone slowly whispering with the effect of it going round my ears? Sounds like hell on earth to me.
***** I've just read loads of the comments on other videos and somebody will usually say, for example "I don't get it, doesn't work" (maybe in a slightly ruder fashion) and usually people just start yelling at them or get annoyed. But hey, the way deadmau5 used it is a great homage to this little undercover cult you have here.
StrawberryWatermelon yeah that’s always been one of my favorite triggers. There’s a “spray bottle” video from a channel called Deep Ocean Of Sounds with a bunch of footsteps in it as well that I always return to.
Propaganda Gerbil lol I’m a freak with plenty of fetishes, I won’t deny it but I actually have the opposite; I have an aversion to feet and think they’re gross!
Its pretty crazy how small the ASMR community was back then, it felt like our own little world. Now its everywhere.

Glad your ears are doing well!
Me too, this was the first I had seen from Maria, and I too come back to it. This one must have been a big hit for her.
I wish you all the best. 🦄 I'm praying 4 u :)

This is still one of my favorite ASMR videos. I LOVE when Maria says “we want someone to tell us that we are appreciated. I want to be that person for you”. It makes me feel so comforted and relaxed.
I've gotten to the point where I literally can't sleep without ASMR

This was the first ASMR video I ever watched and I remember reading the comments and everyone was talking shit about the pubic hair wallpaper. Scrolling down years later and people are still talking shit about the pubic hair wallpaper.
people just need to grow the F up - I agree with you.
I’ve watched this about 1.5M times and never thought it was pubes...🙄
Wow now all I see is pubes 🙄
LMAOOOOOOOO
I never saw it until now!
All that to say i really appreciate all the work you’ve put into the channel and I’m sure it’s helped so many people like me
كم عمرك الان
i love the soft click of her shoes when she moves about. very tingly. I wish more ASMRtists would use it.
Ephemeral Rift has a shoe clicking video that I absolutely love! It's called the Professor's Shoes! Another good one is Footsteps on Wood by Made in France ASMR
you never forget your first
I know right? Not only is Maria the first ASMR artist I watched, this very video was the first one I saw.
trulythedude ain't that the truth my friend
I actually forget my first 😂
My unofficial first was bob ross, but I remember my first lol. It was a relaxing bubble wrap video from whispersred

Those early 2010s asmr videos just hit different... Best cure to tingle immunity
I ALWAYS come back to this video - my first and still my favourite
My first and came back today after years
She could litterally take over the whole world with her voice with no opposition.

I can see it now follow me and get whisper
I would follow. No doubts.

Maria made better asmr in 2012, than most of the 2017 asmr artists
ASMR nostalgia exists now
I mean there was an explosion of asmrtist in this community and the standards got lower and lower
agreed I can't even pretend to cater to the poor dialogue and promos
Because she really actually cares, its +1 for humanity :)
even better than 2018 asmrists
Yeah and it also depends on which asmr person you choose as well.

Yea I love when you feel your scalp tingle and it starts to move around tickling your soul. I use surround sound headphones and feels orgasmic but without any of the negative effects.

@@permacultists How is this less functional? I’m a addict and watching her videos bring me the same feeling, well almost, that using would do. Of course you can’t compare watching a video to literally shooting drugs into my veins feeling, but mentally it’s pretty close and I love watching her. It helps a lot.
OMG i thought i was the only one who experienced this.... i used to have the "tingles" when people would do my hair or when people would talk very softly and I just thought I was weird until I found this channel and realized that I have ASMR! Thank you maria
I think everybody have it and part of *human nature* so I glad you just realize that

It’s still the most authentic asmr on RUclips imo.
I miss when this was under a million views, with the actual ASMR community rather than all the random tards.
Whenever anything reaches the mainstream, every pleb and basic on the Internet has to find some way to shit all over it for no reason. I can only hope that Maria can look past the bullshit that comes with notoriety and see that she still has real fans.
Now THATS why people find it sexual and creepy...

I miss these microphones, the 3d sound is what gave me intense tingles
Nowadays the sound is too clean it's unrealistic and flat
All you did was provide "settings"
I said dynamic mics were good for singing and raw vocals. What do you think a live performance is? Loud, raw vocals.
Whereas condensers, as we both have stated, are designed for sensitive audio where slight noises are equalized to be audible, yet not overwhelming.
Where are podcasts and interviews recorded in? Studios.
It's your actually voice and accent that does it for me

ASMR has randomly happened to me throughout life mainly when watching someone very focused on something their doing. A calming, tingly sensation in the base of my skull and neck. I never knew what it was or why it happened until buzzfeed randomly uploaded a video about it. I ended up here, and in heaven watching this absolutely relaxing video. The feeling took over and I am so relaxed, which I never get. Just incredible.

Almost ten million views for an ASMR vid, amazing. Roughly half are mine.
Lmao
Noxshus After the view counter hits 301 and calculates the correct number of views, only 1 view can come from each ip/youtube account.
Rahao Dinoranger
He was joking lol. Good luck! ;-)
CJM'79 I know it was a joke, but to say that it implies he thinks that >1 views were his.

I just found out about ASMR tonight off of a TableTalk video, went to the Wikipedia article, came out extremely skeptical. Out of all the comments I've read, I can deduct 3 things:
1) I don't have "ASMR"
2) People who do have "ASMR" can't take criticisms about it
3) It creeps me the hell out. Someone slowly whispering with the effect of it going round my ears? Sounds like hell on earth to me.

Sooooo... Why did you search this video then?
T Stuart Well, I was interested. I heard about it a while back and then decided to look it up. When it was in the song I found it again.
