The black was a the 64 gb. Mine is the 32gb and in 8 years it still has room left. Wii U games are compressed or something, because a 32gb somehow is not full after so many years. Now 32gb on a ps4 would fit half a game, But somehow Nintendo accomplished it.
Because you can put more storage without wasting so much for a bigger storage ver. I mean, in mexico, the 8 and 32 was a 1000mxn difference. With that difference money you could buy a 1TB hardrive for a cheapest price console.
What most ppl also don't know: you can use the Wii U Gamepad as a "TV" for Wii Games. Even Wii Motes works with it, because the Gamepad has an "inbuild" Sensor Bar. So for Example: You can play Super Mario Galaxy and can collect Stardust with the Wii Mote pointing on the Wii U Gamepad.
I've played guitar hero Wii games on the gamepad before, I put it on a stand on my kitchen bench and shred a song or 2 while waiting for things to cook lol
I knew that. It wasn't possible at Launch but it became possible after an update ( 3 or 4?). Nice to play wii games without the tv and give the family peace.
Still one of my personal favorite consoles of all time. I don't blame the system itself, but the marketing instead. And I actually still prefer how the Wii U gamepad feels in my hands compared to my Switch. I have my Switch, Wii U, and regular New 3DS available for me to play at anytime.
Just bought a used Wii U for $50 It came with NintendoLand and Mario 3D world Then I got xenoblade chronicles, NES remix, Mario Maker and both HD Zeldas for about $100 Did I do okay?
4:12 Everyone in the future who knows that Mario maker two exists sees this joke is Cringe now but it used to be a really big concern it’s not anymore he probably doesn’t play his Wii U at all anymore because of Mario maker two
@@jesusramirezromo2037 the original Wii came with software that could execute GameCube code (MIOS) natively. For the Wii U, they removed this feature, but they kept the Wii codebase as virtual Wii mode, which runs underclocked on the Wii U. Nintendont is just a modified version of MIOS that can run in the virtual Wii environment
I still play my Wii U for Smash 4 mods, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Wonderful 101. Not to mention Bayonetta 2 which I already have on there. It's also good for internet browsing, and I love the offscreen mode. I still get so much use outta that.
EXACTLY!!! I agree 100%. I think everyone keeps bashing the console without even knowing or playing it. The console is amazing. I own every single first party Wii U game in my library. I will not get rid of this system and I will still use it. Woz is a fool. One of the best consoles ever made that sold horribly. And reiterating what one of these guys said, it had some of the best games on that console.
I actually loved my wii u ! While my parents were using the Tv i rly enjoyed playing on the sreen some Zelda breath of the wild or Mario maker or Pikmin 3 , yoshi wooly , smash bros , tbh theres enough games to keep u busy !
I really like my Wii U, but I might also be a bit biased. I had never had a Nintendo home console before, only handhelds, and I bought the Wii U just when I got into Zelda, so it was perfect for me. There were both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD, and it worked like a wii too, so I could also play Skyward Sword. Breath of the Wild also came out on it, so I didn't have to go and buy a Switch yet for 1 game. There are of course other games on it I play as well, but generally it has just been my go to Zelda home console, since I missed out on every other Nintendo home console. I have had a great time with it.
@@vio2112 Assuming you hacked the Vwii mode of your Wii U, you could play Four Swords Adventures as well, since the Wii U is backward compatible to the Wii, which was backward compatible to the Game Cube. You just needed to use Nintendont and an ISO of the game. Still, I found the Wii to be more polished, mainly because of the annoying hard drive format of the Wii U. I still use my Wii to this day to play Game Cube games.
Wiiu for me is my 5 Nintendo console I've owned. And I think this console does so much right, while Nintendo does everything it can to make the console fail. Example .. The markening strategy The name Lackluster vc store (If you compare it to wii) low internal hard drive No killer launch game The lack of a proper spirtual sequel to the Mario Galaxy franchise. Many Nintendo games that got some really odd directions (Starfox controls, No paper mario rpg ich game)
I've bought a wii u in 2020 strictly for zelda botw, wind waker hd twighlight princess hd skyward sword thanks to backwards compatibility and ocerina of time, I've also got the ps4 pro but just got a bit bored with playing the same games, don't get me wrong I love god of war and spiderman but zelda has always had a special place in my heart
As a Wii & Wii U owner, the Wii U should have been named something else with a console hardware design that did not make it look exactly like the Wii at a glance. So many people thought the Gamepad was an add-on to the Wii. Look up reviews on amazon; so many mothers and grandmothers bought a Wii U game for a Wii and complained it wouldn't work, not knowing it shouldn't! Nintendo failed at differentiating and marketing! The game library itself was excellent, but did lack 3rd party...
It wasn't marketed at all and Nintendo ignored it for YEARS. No wonder it failed. Ubisoft was the only developer doing anything in the early years and they bailed out after a year or two after seeing it being ignored. It definitely fits being a successor of the Gamecube instead of the Wii.
The biggest failure in marketing here was the E3 2011 trailer. They only mention "the new controller" I think that's what created the confusion in the first place
@dj b Not just mothers and grandmothers, I thought the exact same thing and I was a teen. I felt like it came out all of sudden with no marketing. My friend showed it to me and I was like ''oh yeah, I forgot about Nintendo's system''. It took me a few hours to get how the system worked
@acadianalien It happened to me too! I'm not a noob at videogames, yet the first time I saw the WiiU reveal trailer, I was not sure exactly what I was watching.
One, I'm very curious (and happy) on how this crossover happened. And two, the system may have failed in the marketplace and from a hardcore gamer's standpoint, but it didn't fail with me. I've had way more fun times and many great memories with the Wii U than I've had with any other game system from this generation INCLUDING the Switch. (Yes, you read that right.) There was just something about this system that really caught me and thanks to my friends, I finally got a Wii U for Christmas in 2017 and I've been enjoying it ever since, going back to certain games that I completely missed out with the system INCLUDING the third-party games that actually came on the system. 6:29 While the system didn't have much third-party support, indies definitely supported the system for the remainder of its life. And contrary to popular belief, some of the third-party games that the system actually got weren't the best in the world, but they were FAR from being bad games like: Tekken Tag 2, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Warriors Orochi 3, LEGO City Undercover, the first two Bayonetta games (for folks who actually like the series because I don't), Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Darksiders I & II, Assassin's Creed III and IV, COD: Black Ops II, Mass Effect 3, both Batman Arkham games, Sonic Racing Transformed, ZombiU (I have a lot of respect for that game), and Rayman Legends (just to name a few) weren't bad versions of existing games on the platform. And if you want to jump into the subject on what the Switch is doing wrong in comparison to the Wii U: - Wii U STILL has an actual Virtual Console service - Online is completely free - Wii U actually has native voice chat that a number of games supported - Wii U has the best value for its games and software (depending where you buy from) - On the Wii U's home menu, not only can you arrange software to your liking, but you can also make folders for the software to make the menu more organized - You can backup your save data on the system, LOCALLY with all games completely supporting that - Even switching from playing on a TV to a different device is quicker on Wii U then Switch mainly because you don't even have to get up to do it on the Wii U's GamePad - And if you want to include this, you can actually hack the system and add more games to it and NOT get in trouble with Nintendo
The downfall was the marketing and the name. I remember getting into an argument over the Wiiu just being an add on for the wii. People thought it was just a controller for the Wii.
Next two years will be ALL Switch, Unless BioWare or Crystal Dynamics hit it huge with Anthem or Avengers. When PS5 and Scarlet hit their stride though, Switch will look the 3DS looks like now.
@Prince Adonis Ocean but the real question is do you have one now. Get back your lost opportunity. I guess just for nostalgic reasons of having what you didn't get back then.
Best thing about the Wii U is the fact that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was made for it. But since BoTW came out when the Switch came out and was a system seller, it killed the Wii U for good.
Donnie Dial you’re right. But assassins creed played really good with the game pad. Better than nunchucks. Felt too funky. And there’s other games I liked. Game pad to me was really reliable. I can switch from TV to gamepad and go take a shit. Battery was really good for it. I liked playing Mario kart with my game pad. Bc I was used to playing the game on the ds. Nunchucks were just funky to me. But great playing motion games like Wii sports resort.
Plus you can play older games like legend of Zelda wind waker and much more. The switch has yet to release older games. That was a great plus and I like playing them on a handheld . Nunchucks make older games feel funky
If you notice since the PlayStation 1 Nintendo has always come up with a software format that was different from Sony. They stayed with a cartridge with the N64. Then they stayed away from the DVD format and made mini discs on the game cube. With the Wii U They didn’t want to pay Sony for Blu-ray so they made their own version. And they are also staying away from it this generation with the cartridges on Nintendo switch.
Nintendo's games are so small(talking about gigs) in comparison to sony/ms, they don't need bluray. And they still hold a grudge against sony even though nintendo was the backstabber.
@@thelarry383 actually DvD capacity is pretty small (topping out at around 10 gigs double-sided) so Nintendo did need their own disc technology. (Smash 4 is almost 16 gigabytes for example)
Treetops97 Ah yes I forgot to mention the Wii. Which was still proprietary. Even the GameCube had mini (DVD-based) discs created by Panasonic. With the Wii and Wii U they found a way to take the DVD and Blu-ray tech and make it their own.
A lot of people had the wii, and there was no really good reasons to buy the wii u at launch if you already have the wii. The gamepad is not worth an upgrade. Games were not that great at launch. If they were to have Breath of the Wild at launch, it would have been different. And yeah, like everyone said, marketing didn’t help.
@@hryank33 I mean the Wii U is a massive upgrade to the Wii in terms of quality, and you get a handheld gamepad that is still great quality IMO AND it can be a Wii if you want it to, the marketing was definitely terrible
I'll tell you why it failed. My brother he asks me to help pick out a game for his kid. He picks up Super Mario Bros U and says what about this one? Not that one. well why not is a bad game? Its fine game, not that one because it doesn't work on the Wii. Well why? its for the Wii U, not the Wii its for a different console. He just responds I don't get it. The lesson is don't confuse your consumers I guarantee this exact same scenario happened every time a parent went to buy a game.
Didn't have to pay to play online. Can use an external HDD. Has an extensive virtual console. Didn't need an app for voice chat. On a personal note, the first time I beat Super Metroid was on Wii U. The Wii U a success in my eyes.
They stuck 3DS cartridges in the disc drive? Did they think that would work? Actually that would be sort of cool. You could have the top screen be viewed on the TV and the bottom screen on the gamepad. NINTENDO, WHY DID YOU *NOT* DO THIS?
Both the 3DS and PS Vita we’re floundering early on launch, the last thing they wanted was to make it fail by providing an alternative near launch. That idea would’ve easily killed the company.
If you mean Smash 5, yes. 1. Smash 64 2. Melee 3. Brawl 4. 3ds 5. Smash Bros for Wii U The 3ds game is always overlooked. It's an entirely different game, slightly different roster and different release date
"Last generation console" But the Wii U is also 8th generation, it just got discontinued half-way through it. One could see the Switch as part of the Pro and X's "8.5" gen weird thing that's going on.
I still remember sitting a Miiverse chat with other top Xeno X players and coming up with the long sword Glave ether boost + Dule Guns TP Gain on drifter meta. The combo that in Overdrive kills everything that you can stand on ground. Those beam sword users never stood a chance 😂
To be fair, I LOVE my Wii U. Mario 3D World, Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicle X, Paper Mario Color Splash (I know), Smash Wii U... Sonic Boom? I mean, the console had some pretty great awesome games (heck, Nintendo Land makes for a nice multiplayer experience). I don't think it's a bad console per say, maybe it should have been on the tech side what the Wii was, the gamepad was gimmicky and nobody figured how to make it work well, and it got released at the wrong time with the wrong name
I'm living in a weird parallel world where I still play my Wii U because I don't have a Switch yet. And I'm still picking up games for the system that I'd missed, so the Wii U still feels new to me. Meanwhile, I'm watching Wii U retrospectives that talk about it like it's an old relic.

If the Wii was an enhanced Gamecube, and the Wii U was essentially an enhanced Wii, does that mean that the Wii U is an extremely enhanced Gamecube?
That's quite the syllogism
Technically yes, as it still uses the same processor family as the gamecube. Also it still can run GameCube game’s natively.
Kinda is. The Wii Menu mode on Wii U is a TRIPLE-clocked GameCube, while Wii was a double-clocked GameCube. But yeah, most of the Wii U is a Wii.
For those who mock the Wii U, we wouldn't have the Nintendo Switch without it - it's called evolution.

Why they even had an 8GB model, I will never know. I had to pick up a hard drive for my 32GB model almost immediately.
The black was a the 64 gb. Mine is the 32gb and in 8 years it still has room left. Wii U games are compressed or something, because a 32gb somehow is not full after so many years. Now 32gb on a ps4 would fit half a game, But somehow Nintendo accomplished it.

I can understand this. Also lots of zeldas on WiiU virtual console.

A few years ago I bought Mario Kart 8 on Craigslist from a kid who's mom thought it would play on his Wii.
Scott has such a relaxing voice, it’s so casual and natural. It’s perfect for RUclips
(Yes, you read that right.)
There was just something about this system that really caught me and thanks to my friends, I finally got a Wii U for Christmas in 2017 and I've been enjoying it ever since, going back to certain games that I completely missed out with the system INCLUDING the third-party games that actually came on the system.
6:29
While the system didn't have much third-party support, indies definitely supported the system for the remainder of its life. And contrary to popular belief, some of the third-party games that the system actually got weren't the best in the world, but they were FAR from being bad games like:
Tekken Tag 2, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Warriors Orochi 3, LEGO City Undercover, the first two Bayonetta games (for folks who actually like the series because I don't), Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Darksiders I & II, Assassin's Creed III and IV, COD: Black Ops II, Mass Effect 3, both Batman Arkham games, Sonic Racing Transformed, ZombiU (I have a lot of respect for that game), and Rayman Legends (just to name a few) weren't bad versions of existing games on the platform.
And if you want to jump into the subject on what the Switch is doing wrong in comparison to the Wii U:
- Wii U STILL has an actual Virtual Console service
- Online is completely free
- Wii U actually has native voice chat that a number of games supported
- Wii U has the best value for its games and software (depending where you buy from)
- On the Wii U's home menu, not only can you arrange software to your liking, but you can also make folders for the software to make the menu more organized
- You can backup your save data on the system, LOCALLY with all games completely supporting that
- Even switching from playing on a TV to a different device is quicker on Wii U then Switch mainly because you don't even have to get up to do it on the Wii U's GamePad
- And if you want to include this, you can actually hack the system and add more games to it and NOT get in trouble with Nintendo
Don't forget backwards compatibility to the wii (and technically GC)
Also came with youtube and other apps at launch.
I've been using my Wii U for the past 4 years and i still dont get bored
Imagine lying
@CloudMyst 😐

It helps that it came out on Wii U because it enables emulation with the Wii U emulator that is doing quite well
Not to mention WiiU is modder friendly while using mods on Switch gives you a permanent ban from online services
Well, Bob doesn't need his Wii u anymore
If you notice since the PlayStation 1 Nintendo has always come up with a software format that was different from Sony. They stayed with a cartridge with the N64. Then they stayed away from the DVD format and made mini discs on the game cube. With the Wii U They didn’t want to pay Sony for Blu-ray so they made their own version. And they are also staying away from it this generation with the cartridges on Nintendo switch.
Nintendo's games are so small(talking about gigs) in comparison to sony/ms, they don't need bluray. And they still hold a grudge against sony even though nintendo was the backstabber.
James H Sony invented Compact Discs (CD) and were also behind DVD and Blu-ray.
@@thelarry383 actually DvD capacity is pretty small (topping out at around 10 gigs double-sided) so Nintendo did need their own disc technology. (Smash 4 is almost 16 gigabytes for example)
This would be true if you didn't skip over the Wii
Treetops97 Ah yes I forgot to mention the Wii. Which was still proprietary. Even the GameCube had mini (DVD-based) discs created by Panasonic. With the Wii and Wii U they found a way to take the DVD and Blu-ray tech and make it their own.
Wii U never had a chance because of the name. It was seriously an underrated console.
Yeah the marketing was what caused it's demise. If it had a different name and Nintendo focused less on gimmicks then maybe it'd have stood a chance.
