I find that this film takes everything from the first film and expands upon it. The first film sets up the family dynamic while the second film actually explores that dynamic in more detail. The characters are taken to more of an emotional place, with virtually all of them showing the core of who they are: Peter searching for a father, Gamora and Nebula’s broken sisterhood, Drax’s selfless fatherly love (contrasted with Ego’s selfish fatherly love), Rocket feeling like a broken wreck incapable of love, and Yondu paralleling Rocket and helping Peter realize that he didn’t need a father, but a dad that he already had in Yondu. This film really showcased the heart of the Guardians much more while retaining the offbeat sense of humor that Gunn is known for. Gunn's balance of his particular brand of humor and deft character work makes the Guardians my favorite franchise in the MCU.

It's so hard to give the everyone the spotlight when you have an ensemble cast, but every main character here gets at least one moment where they get to shine.
Even though Rocket says the music at the start is for Quill, it’s really for himself. Never really picked up on that until now. He likes Quill’s music.
My Sweet Lord needle drop in this movie is one of my favorite needle drops ever.

This is for sure in my top 10. I was tearing up at work just listening to you guys recap the ending funeral scene 😭 I'm not prepared for Guardians 3
I think the pure genius in this movie is encapsulated in the song Brandy being a great song on starlords great playlist and then taking on new meaning in it also being a plot device for the villain.
I also didnt give this movie enough credit at release as guardians 1 is in my top 5 all time movies in general but rewatching over the years this movie is fucking incredible and every bit as good as 1. I just think its placement in the mcu it got overshadowed pretty easily and thats why people view this as a bit lesser than it is.

Well, Tim asked for this lol I had Taco Bell for lunch. Two cheesy bean and rice burritos for $2, the last good value menu in fast food.
I had fried chicken for lunch, it wasn't very good, but the chicken popcorn was outstanding.
I think when I saw Guardians 2 first, I thought it was not as good as the first. I think I like it more now

2 is way better than 1. The first one was so focused on easing audiences into the idea of space, whereas this is a deeper character study where we really get to spend time with the Guardians.
I remember going into this movie 6 years ago not being excited at all and came out so surprised by how good it was. Still feel that today!

I honestly think, as an individual movie, this is the best movie in the MCU. Some others, within context, may be greater. Namely Infinity war and maybe endgame.. but in terms of a singular movie being the most well made and effective.. I don’t see how it’s not this one.
Is not fair that for GOTG V3, we don't have the same team, it's a shame Gunn had to figured it out how to do a DO OVER with Gamora, I hope the movie is good, just be cafeful if you are sensitive to animal torture

Rewatching Guardians 2, I'm actually knocking this down several ranks on my list. It's no longer Top 10 MCU for me.
Guardians 2 is my favorite MCU movie and the most rewatchable, I'm so glad KF is giving it the love it deserves
Yes, it's better on the re-watch, but it doesn't have that magic of the first film. Also, the retcon around Yondu is such a sea change from that first film. Don't get me wrong, it eventually works towards the end of the movie, but you have to really forget a lot of the first film for it to truly work. Lastly, the Xmas special added a moment that seems like it should have had been in 2, to add to the whole Yondu was really a nice guy father figure bit. [The Christmas gifts scene].
There was a nod to Yondu and Quills Love for each other with the Troll swap, Yondu's smile says a lot. Diving deeper into the two's relationship in the first movie would have thrown off the pacing of the film.
What MAGIC? So many people say this and it makes no sense. What you mean is that it didn't hit for you because the shock of the novelty of the team had worn off for you.
There isn't a retcon of Yondu. Theres 100% seeds planted for them to have a father/son relationship

Fun fact: The team led by Stallone is actually the original Guardians team from the comics and, at the time, there was a plan to bring them back. What that plan was, who knows, but I'm guessing because of Gunn's stupid firing/rehiring situation and the looooooong road to get back to Guardians 3, whatever plans or ideas (if any) they actually had for them were likely dropped. Also, Gunn doesn't just pick the music in post, he picks tracks while he's writing and the songs are written into the script and often played on set while shooting.
I'd love for Gunn to come back and do a "Special Presentation" like he did for the Holiday Special for that group. Doesn't have to be a full movie. Maybe an hour special thats just fun

ive never understood this opinion of guardians 2. i think that it lags a lot in the middle and more of the jokes miss than hit. and the ones that miss REALLY miss. guardians 2 is probably middle of the mcu for me whereas guardians 1 is top 3. there are a couple of things on the kinda funny ranking that i think are insane but obviously the format of the series makes that inevitable, but hearing every single one of you specifically state that you like this movie more than the first one is wild to me. to each their own, but i really think this movie has some real problems to it

Was watching the new Peter Pan movie the other day and thought, there are a lot of Peter Pan movies and thought maybe an In Review would be nice for them all.

While Pac-Man is referenced earlier on in the movie when Peter says "Well, get ready for a 800-foot statue of Pac-Man with Skeletor and Heather Locklear" as his powers unlock, I do think that's just the surface level because Ego is a sphere with a face. It's kind of Peter taking the form of his own father while Ego takes on the shape of what Peter thinks his father was, in a way to say he doesn't need him anymore. A subtle "Father becomes the son, son becomes the father" wrapped in a garish pop culture reference.

I have a controversial take... all of the Groot's besides the adult Groot in GOG1 have been annoying or weird.
Controversial opinion : I still find this one boring and prefer the first one by a long shot.
Not controversial at all, my dude. KF (and apparently many in the audience) are a vocal minority on this one. The characters are too extreme here, particularly Drax and Rocket. Drax is actually dumb in this one, and Rocket is so unlikable here. Baby Groot is cute, but I missed Groot Prime a lot.
I don't think it's boring, but it's definitely not as good. And it's only saved by a pretty incredible ending, honestly.

Idk why I’m so far off you guys on this movie. I think it awful actually cringy not funny & I don’t buy any of StarLords emotion to his dad he never even knew anyway
