It’s so upsetting that this movie didn’t perform well at the box office. It’s legitimately Oscar and golden globe material. I saw this before I even saw the original Broadway version, so I’m not trying to be biased. John Chu is an amazing director.
On the plus side, that means there's no chance of a terrible half-assed sequel being made purely as a cashgrab. This movie, despite failing in the box office, has it's significance to the people it represents, and that's all it needed for it to be cemented in history. People are gonna be showing this film to their kids for ~decades~.
A lot of movies coming out in theaters are bombing regardless if they performed well or not. 90% of the movies that came out or are still coming out were meant to release last year but theaters everywhere were shutdown, hence the releases of movies both in theaters and streaming service(s) which plays a lot into movies bombing at the box office. I think the only movie so far that had any success, despite not being released in theaters , was Trolls 2: World Tour.

Dude, Lin does so well layering melodies and lyrics, I’m amazed every time, like 96,000, We Don’t Talk About Bruno, and the reception song where Angelica toasts Eliza and Alex. He’s amazing in how he does it and still manages to make every melody and line crystal clear
I found it both ironic and a bit funny at the fact that every song that overlaps voices are my favorites. (I mean for Encanto; it’s We Don’t Talk About Bruno, then for In The Heights; it’s 96,000, and for Hamilton; it’s Non-stop)
Honestly if you want a better example of Lin layering melodies and lyrics in Hamilton I usually recommend Non-stop has the same chaos but synergy vocals wise.
One of my favorite details is that Usnavi keeps talking about how they shouldnt think about what to do with hypothetical money, but the SECOND Vanessa asks him what hes going to do with it, he cant help but start fantasizing

@@sethdove8847 that's because both of these songs are act 1 finales, it's not uncommon for those to have this kind of everyone-talking-over-each-other kind of thing to sum up their goals from act 1 and hopes for act 2, and with these two being written by the same guy, they're bound to have more similarities EDIT: so i was misremembering stuff and 96000 was not actually the finale, it was mid-act 1, because in the heights had 2 acts (i was thinking it had three, it does story-wise, but _technically_ only has two, with the intermission happening 2/3 into the play). the sentiment still stands, but i was wrong on a technical level

I love it when everybody in the pool is checking their lottery ticket, because, of course, I always carry my lottery ticket tucked into my swimsuit and it never falls out when I'm doing elaborate dance moves in the pool.
Another fun fact Vanessas swim suit is the only one that is black . All of them are fun and bright . This is not only so she can stand out . Vanessa is realistic and not part of the hype . She wants to leave the barrio money or not that would just emphasize her desires the fortune .
Everything going on in this scene is so interesting there’s something new every time when you watch it I just love how but the ensemble is it feels so magical
@@dantemitsoyu977 i see why you would say that. the storyline is pretty much nonexistent because it was originally a broadway show, which are more about the music/performance aspects and they don't focus so much on making a super detailed intricate plot. on the big screen though, it kinda just highlights the weak points in the story. however, the awesome dance numbers and banger songs were enough to sustain the movie in my view. it's probably just not your cup of tea.

I love this film. How it wasn't nominated for BEST FILM, DIRECTOR & CINEMATOGRAPHY proves, the awards system are ridiculous.
That would mean it woulda had to have taken the place of another film
