Surprised you didn't mention how highly rated our public schools are, its a great place to raise kids.
And, it's a good place to grow old, taxes aside, being between Boston and New York, with Yale in between meabs easy access to the best hospitals in the country.

ive lived in South Texas my whole life and visited my family in Monterrey in Mexico while growing up in the summers and winters but idk why since I was a kid ive been attracted to living in a cold, snowy, small town next to a big city with beautiful landscape, where I could have some peace during winter and could raise my kids with a solid education, and Connecticut sounds like that to me and what makes it really weird is that I just remembered that ive had a uconn womans basketball hat for years, so I guess im already apart of the Connecticut club. maybe im destined to move there.

My mother's girlfriend and her family lived in Hartford, Conn for over 30 years. After retirement, she and her husband purchased a home and moved back to Durham, North Carolina. Her adult children later migrated to Durham, North Carolina with the exception of her oldest daughter and her husband living in Rochester, New York. However, her oldest daughter and her husband built a mini mansion near Wilmington, North Carolina and they spend the winter months in North Carolina. I live in Washington, D.C. and I've never traveled to Connecticut. However, this is a great video! Housing in Washington, D.C. is outrageous with increasing gentrification.🥺 😢 😭

CT offers more social services than any other state, and in the past, I have needed the free healthcare. Free, like in no copays, and no fees for medication. I'm not knocking the hand that feeds.

I love ct I been here most of my life but the taxes is ridiculous. I'm hoping it changes Property taxes in New Haven has gone up twice in the past 2 to 3 years. I'm hoping they bring in more revenue with the legalizing marijuana. Next they need to bring tolls on all the borders only. This is a very small state and they tax us for everything. A lot of wasted money being used. I think some people are selling their Property's and renting or moving out of state.

However, after graduating, living the adult life , marrying and living in big cities and experiencing horrible infrastructure and insane politics…I have come to miss the quiet lifestyle and clean streets of southeastern Connecticut. Also the lot sizes and the land. The one thing that is a bummer is the taxes and the high cost of provisions such as food and basic necessities. As a longtime CT resident (over 40 years) who has lived all over the state but also in a few other states, here's my advice to people considering it.
It's not cheap. If cost is an important factor, choose another state. CT is one of the most unprejudiced states in the country -- race, sexual orientation, religion -- the overwhelming amount of CT residents don't care. This was the third state to legalize same sex marriage for a reason -- we like to mind our own business. BUT...what I tell people (half in jest) is that in CT the only people we're prejudiced against are poor people. As long as you have money no one will discriminate against you for anything here. You could be a purple alien from Betelgeuse and you would be welcome anywhere.
No matter what kind of lifestyle you choose, there is a spot for you in CT. If you like culture and dining, you can get it in New Haven and Stamford as well as having the short train ride into NYC from anywhere in Fairfield county. Small town living among the wealthy -- New Canaan, Darien, Litchfield, and more. Living on the shore with your boat nearby -- Greenwich, New London, Westport, and more. Living in a rural woodsy setting with low population, horses, skiing, and outdoor sports such as fishing and hiking in spades -- most of Litchfield County. Whatever you like we have it. Recreational weed is legal.
The schools here are terrific. The public schools in the suburbs are amazing and we have a dozen stodgy New England prep schools with $50K+ annual tuition as well. A college admissions counselor once put it to me this way: A 2.7 GPA in a CT HS is the equivalent of a 3.5 GPA in most of the US.
All that being said -- it's not for everybody and we actually like to keep it exclusive. If you come here leave your prejudices behind and don't complain about the real estate prices or the taxes -- most people will get bored with you and walk away. You can dine in a restaurant here and drop $400 for two while wearing jeans or even shorts. If you try to get some books banned from the school library expect to find yourself as persona non grata in the town where you lived -- we tend to be highly educated as a whole (nearly 50% of adults have a Bachelor's or higher and in many town the number is > 80%) and we don't play that crap here. There's a lot of laid back, creative people with money especially in the northern part of the state, so don't expect to be treated like a king because you bring in six figures -- the MEDIAN income is > $100K in a very large percentage of CT towns. Young people with salaries of $75K in Stamford often share an apartment with roommates. Home prices are VERY high.

Pros of living in Connecticut? Are you kidding me - there are none. I usually go to Connecticut once a year to visit relatives who unfortunately were never able to escape. They live in the Hartford area. Hartford is a city that has seen better days. It used to be a very prosperous and affluent city, about 50 - 60 years ago. Now it's a decrepit, crime ridden sewer. Large companies are moving out of Connecticut and Hartford. The reason for this is the insanely high corporate state income taxes. People are moving out for the same reason - in Connecticut individuals are taxed to death. Oh, I forgot to mention property taxes. Connecticut has the highest property tax rate in the country. CT will tax you on all kinds of property, your house, your car, your lawn mover etc. I have to wonder where all that tax money goes. The roads are in horrible shape, potholes all over the place, bridges are collapsing, and in the winter snow plows are no where to be seen. Then there's the weather, gloomy cloudy skies most of the year. It rains a lot, in the summer it's crazy humid, in the winter it's cold and snowy and you probably won't see the sun for weeks. This means you'll have to buy those lights called SAD lamps (seasonal affective disorder) because you'll definitely need it for the winter blues. If you're not on depression meds before you moved to Connecticut you will be very soon afterwards. In the 2000's the City of Hartford came up with a catchy slogan to rebrand itself. Hartford was nicknamed the Rising Star of the Northeast. I think it's the Blackhole of the Northeast. Once you get sucked in it's hard to leave and that's because it attracts people who want to live off the welfare state. Yes, Connecticut is a welfare state. It has really good benefits for people who are too lazy to work, i.e. free healthcare, housing, food allowance money and so forth. Now the people - well I don't mean to offend anyone but they're just weird. I can't put my finger on it but Joe Rogan in this video basically sums it up best, take a look for yourself: ruclips.net/video/eMzUQzDRW7Y/видео.html

I live on a main road. Snowplows strike here overnight. Fun. Local drivers treat the main thoroughfares in this small town like a raceway. CT is humid but we could also have triple digit heat for 5 weeks straight, like where I've lived before. There are a few activities that are free, that can be taken advantage of: free summer outdoor concerts, car shows, programs at a public library, etc. When resources are available, CT takes care of its own, which helps to explain high taxes. This may sound condescending, but look around: CT is a gorgeous state centrally located between metropolitan areas. I'm unemployed and am not a property owner, so don't pay taxes. However, I've resided and worked in CT in the past, thereby putting my time in. I like being "weird", makes my life interesting. I am presently close to family, the water, fresh air, beautiful older trees, birds who wake me up in the morning... When you go without for so long, you learn to appreciate the little things. And CT being little, well, in its simplest form, I appreciate. ❤

@@chrisfernald5850 I'm glad you like living in CT. But I would like to point out that you do pay property taxes even though you rent. Your landlord is passing on their property taxes to you through the rent you pay and CT has one of the highest property taxes in the country. In AZ property taxes are low. I only pay $1,020 on my four bedroom house.

I think the first step is picking a area/region you want to be in. Whether south, northeast, Midwest, or West. Connecticut can be a good balance because it is situated between two major cities New York City and Boston but offers a slower pace of lifestyle compared to those cities
