Oyster sauce and moo ga taa is loaded with salt so your probably retaining water. Being able to speak Thai fluently has definitely helped me understand the culture in many ways. Understanding someone in their own language helps with a better understanding of who they really are. I can watch Thai news, tv and movies without subtitles so pick a lot of things up there as well. I can overhear Thais talking to each other about us and other things. Not everything they say is very nice about us behind our backs. But then again there are some very nice things said. I’ll usually stay quiet but I’ve responded a few times and proved that Thais can indeed blush! My wife and I really enjoy this little game when we are out together. And one very interesting and useful thing is that I’ve gotten to know my wife at a much deeper level being able to communicate with her and her family in their own language. No matter how good their English is, and my wife is basically native level, when you can converse in her language with her it’s like seeing a another person in there and there are far less chances of misunderstanding. Most Thai women including English teachers here have very rudimentary English skills at best and you can’t really have any kind of deep conversation with them, so you don’t really see the whole person. In fact there are a few wives of my friends whom I can have far better conversations with than their own husbands can and I probably know a bit more about their true personality than they may want me to! Fun stuff like that! Lol I don’t actually find the Thai mindset that terribly difficult to understand in general though. Being around it for 15 years certainly helps and I’m sure your other friend will agree. But there are always those surprising head shakers from time to time! The one thing I don’t understand though is why someone would want to marry someone they can’t communicate with. To me communication has been the secret to our successful marriage so far.
yes- it is awkward at times when i know significant things about someone’s wife that the farang husband doesn’t know. Don’t really care for that aspect of it- but there’s nothing I can do about that….
Bill- you may see my “fist day home from pattaya” video- it’s up in a few hours. I did survive diet-wise. still at 82kg…… I’m motivated to keep losing….
@@resetwithrobb That’s great! It’s always a struggle for me to keep it off. Been trying hard this week as I’m heading to Singapore tomorrow and I know I’m going to add a few kilos on that trip!
@@resetwithrobb Just wait until the language becomes second nature to you - which it will if you keep at it. Good to study with a teacher but really dig in and learn how the Thais actually talk to each other. I would watch Thai movies and slow them down on RUclips and just work my way through them figuring out the dialogue. I also did this with songs which helped me a lot! For some reason things always stick better for me if I can relate to it musically. When you finally get to the point you find yourself thinking in the language then you got it!
For me, I almost never eat a huge meal anymore- they stretch out your stomach and make you hungry. I eat anything naughty for breakfast. Lunch is the main meal, and i just have a snack at dinner and (try not to) eat at all after that, other than a little protein if i’m truly hungry. I eat when i’m hi dry and not when i’m only bored. I eat a lot of vegetables (after 2 months you start craving the damn things), I really watch the carbs, no noodles, little bread, no potatoes, very few cookies or crackers.
If you go to English speaking bars you will find drunks. It is better to go to Thai bars with Thai women working in the bars. No trouble there. If you want to date bar ladies you can but stay friends only. Do not get into a relationship other than being friends. I would find a Thai lady that works a normal job like working in a coffee shop or restaurant if you to be in a relationship. Stay away from ladies that drink alcohol everyday. Thais like drinking.
A Thai female Friend is an excellent idea though they will try and hook you up with a “friend” and you should never do that. Always find your own lady here.
