- This is on the North Jersey Coast Line (ex-NYLB). In 1986 the 3rd St. Station in Long Branch was a temporary trailer. The old brick station from the 1950s had been recently torn down and construction was just beginning on the current station. The station area looks completely different today. At West End Ave. the single track from the station ended. At the end is a short slide show with the actual audio so you can hear what the Comet II cab car K5LAs sounded like back then, many of which had one bell removed. Video was filmed with a Sony BMC-110 BetaMovie camera.
Thanks for watching! ~ Zeke
Here is a photo of the 1950s station not long before it was torn down - www.monmouthbea...
NJ Transit trains today are nothing like they used to be back then. I remember these kinds of trains when I used to live in Somerville, NJ, back in the 1980s. I miss the way they used to be. I miss the way just about everything else used to be, too. I hate the modern equipment they have today. Those F40PH locomotives and Comet II cars are incredibly nostalgic for me. I keep wishing to go back to the 1980s, over and over, but I'm still stuck here in the 2020s. I don't want to be stuck here in the now! I want to go back to my childhood and relive the #GoodOldDays again!
I was already missing these classic trains before the 1990s ended. It's incredibly heartbreaking that all we've got of the vintage trains are these video clips online. Yes, I like seeing them online, but it's just not the same as actually being there and seeing them live as I once used to back then.
Past - ❤😢😭
Present - 👎🤬
Future - 😨😰😱
Basically, I love the past and I dearly miss it. I hate the present. And, I fear and dread the future. That's what those emojis next to each time frame represent.
Awesome Video I Love New Jersey Transit
How things have changed.
Incredible footage Zeke!, very much overjoyed to see footage from my home state commuter RR cheers!
What really gets me is the single tracking & especially the curvature of the tracks going to the west of the station
Great flashback video of New Jersey transit
Wow this is some rare footage
Was this during electrification of the North Jersey coast line being extended to Long Branch
I think the project was just getting started in 1986. It was completed 7-2-1988.
Very interesting to see Long Branch station like this - absolutely nothing like it is today…..
do you happen to have any other old footage of NJT?
This is the only footage I have of NJT.
