I have heard more than a few versions of Souvenir de P.R., but this pianist seems to have a special affinity with Gottschalk. It is a very poetic version he renders…perfect rhythm, to me it sounds like every note is played in its natural spot. And that also goes for his phrasing. In short, a joy to listen to. Thank you Mr. Ghraichy!
Fantastic interpretation....Gottschalk was a larger than life pianist and composer, it's totally appropriate to have his music played in this larger than life fashion. Bravo, Mr Ghraichy.
Very personal and dreamy interpretation of this composition. Totally romantic with unexpected explosions of the emotions rendered. Extraordinary mastering of the pedals and staccati. I hope you will explore other compositions of this so original composer. "Fall of leaves (la chute des feuilles)", "El cocoyé" or "Bataille" for example.
Magnificent! Such a grossly unappreciated composer, hence underappreciated performance. Bravo Simon, beautifully done! I always hope the composer got to see it performed beautifully like this from his seat in heaven!
Great interpretation Simon. Contagious rhythm, dynamic control is where its at for this deceptively simple piece. I've heard enough sleepy interpretations of this piece to know when someone is just not "getting it" well you "got it" thank you for this music!
@@KidCodyRunning right?? i admit i'm not a piano player, or musically inclined at all, but i saw a video of this piece with the sheet music, and I swear you need a sharingan to keep up with it.
Im obsessed with this song and this rendition of it. Its so good I can even excuse the picardy third at the end haha. I have the sheet music and I am trying to learn this piece. Honestly each hand alone isnt *that* bad, its just putting it altogether is the hard part. But I will be able to play it all the way through some day for sure , and I have this video to look to for inspiration
I stumbled cross this just for a new piece to try. Mr. Ghraichy plays it so beautifully --- how is it this is the only recording that I could find? Thank you so much for putting your wonderfully moving and mesmerizing interpretation out there!
Thank you for the nice interpretation... ! If interested I have some Gottschalk, Saumell and Cervantes Music recorded by a friend great pianist (French One) ...
It's actually "Volante" and not "Rolante" which means "flying" and it's to emphasis the light character of the right hand which "flies" a 2-octaves distance! :)
I just won a competition playing this piece - your performance was one from which I took inspiration! Thanks for that about Volante - I wish I'd thought to do that for my performance!
i love the song but kinda dislike how he speeds up and slows down constantly...maybe that is how the song is written but i think it would sound better without it (like in Josh Turner's guitar duo version)

It's very good. I like how little pedal he uses but I think at parts it needed more pedal.
I can't stop listening to this.
Great song and interpretation! Congrats

Merci Simon pour votre sens du juste Tempo et volonté de nous faire découvrir des auteurs très peu connus du grand public.
Bravo, this is perfectly played! We love it
This song is pretty underrated
switzer ville agree

Piece, composition... But yes, your point is correct.

Excelente Maestro!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Impecable!!!!!!!!!
I could not have expected the Picardy third at the end! :)
This is a lovely interpretation. Thank you.

Thanks so much for posting this. Have been trying to figure out best way to approach the big jumps and this helped a lot! Fantastic performance.
Bravo Maestro!
Aaaah this was absolutely the best played version of this piece. It REALLY was great. But why...why is the final accord in major?...
One of the rare online versions done with such Maestria and dynamism! Nice outfit by the way ...
very good performance

Je me sens pas bien si je ne vous écoute pas chaque jour, notamment quand je n'arrive pas à dormir et me lever, aha :-D
Bravissimo! Fantastic piece! When will the CD be available?

please record the Abegg Variations - Schumann next !!
Marcha de los Jibaros
Compositeur pas assez joué car difficile de rendre toutes les expressions de ses compositions. Merci Simon c'est un régal.

Came here from Josh Turner’s vid. This is so nice!
Love it! But does anyone know what "rolante" means in it? Can't find definition on Google or anywhere else!
+Niall Mannion I'm pretty sure it just means 'like a roll'

This music was the first proof that Americans can compose :)
For quite a long time
Gottschalk was a french
Soon he'll curl his fingers so much he'll be playing with his knuckles haha (;
Everyone go check Josh Turner's guitar duo version ...amazing song
I just heard this on piano tiles so I thought it was good
Not by Lecuona !
@@Pochito1940 Panchito puedes decirme quien es el compositor ?
@@alonso4652 , El compositor es Louis Moreau Gottschalk .
😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's sometimes strangely similar to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme
Nearly the same minor key

I wanted to like it but damn that's a lot of cheating and wrong notes.
Not too sure about this performance...
Shadowbeats done it better
