This story makes me realize how much more exciting MLB would be if players could only catch the ball ~50% of the time when it was popped up or thrown right to them. No such thing as a "routine play." Every hit has a chance to be an infield HR.
I was picturing the locker room at the World Series, Dmitri on some experimental PEDs he cooked up, slamming his head into the lockers and screaming to get amped up. Ernie and Keisha in the back nervously laughing. Jocinda with airpods in, thousand yard stare. Mikey's picking his nose so deep he caught his last brain cell. Dante swallowing a live hog whole. Sally rubbing the bridge of her nose in indignant disbelief.
I laughed, I cried, I screamed and jumped for joy. This is a year for the history books boys, they said it couldn’t be done. Dmitri Petrovich ran the numbers, and the numbers say otherwise
I don’t think I was as invested in any real professional or college teams in any sport this year as much as I was in the last 80 minutes of this incredible series. What a ride.
How the backyard players get stat boosts and decreases is very clever game design. Ernie will always be boosted playing at Steele Stadium (his home). Sally will be boosted if she plays on the same team as her brother Ronny, but Ronny's stats tank. Tony will get a boost when playing against his twin sister.
And the fact that there's enough RNG moments in the realtime game to keep it interesting. You can't just "git gud" like you could in an EA sports entries and win every game. That and the fact that having errors every other play is much more realistic for a little league team.
This just proves that baseball needs colour commentators that don't simply "Now this guy's been hitting for .085 this year, leading his team. In his free time, he's a dog lover! How about that? Haha." There's a lot of what appears to be downtime in baseball. My solution: Gimme both coaches on the mic at the same time, all game. Maybe for the 7th, put two fans on. Gimme some crazy shit.
hell of a story and a hell of a ball club. I’m not gonna lie I was none too happy with your early season Delvecchio decision- I was flat out pissed off about it. I was calling for you resignation. I think its a classic story of a young coach who comes in and shakes things up just for the sake of shaking things up….it was a black mark on an otherwise great season. It’s also no secret I am a White Melonheads fan through and through but I give credit where credit is due- you righted the ship and brough home the trophy and in the end it’s about the kids.
No idea how this wound up in my recommendations, and I had no idea what to expect. I only clicked on part 1 because I wanted to know what Ryan Creamer was up to these days. I laughed. I cried. I celebrated. Furiously entertaining in a way I didn't expect at all. Well done to you, and to the team that made this possible.
Joe Buck: "This is gonna be a tough play... Lui... the A's... WIN THE WORLD SERIES! Lui makes the play! It's over. And the Athletics have finally changed the game! 5-1 in six!"
What an amazing ride this was! Overcoming the division rival in Seattle to start the playoffs, Beating the stacked Yankees for the pennant and then a just beautiful performance at the WS. This was better than most of Hollywood for all 2022. Great job with the editing!
Backyard Baseball 2001 was one of my favorite games as a kid. Logged a lot of hours and watching these two videos was incredibly fun. I felt just as excited and invested in this team as I do when I watch the MLB.
You should’ve crippled a super pitch type too, but 99/100. This what amazing to watch. If you do it again to revive the series, handicap yourself more. It’ll increase the drama and if you pull it off, you literally have nothing but PURE bragging rights. You can claim that you are the best Backyard Baseball Player/Coach of all time because I don’t think there’s a single other person who has done it on camera, especially in the age of streaming. If you lose? All titans fall. Pick the same team and run it again. Take it as far as you can, we’ll be here with you every step of the way. This was fascinating to watch from beginning of series to end. After your first video I watched an an entire Backyard sports review series and came back to your World Series run. The appreciation I had before amplified x50, and my original appreciation was probably more than most simply being an OG player of the game, You can claim that it’s the same team coming back to redeem the title. Power hits included, no power pitches. I’d love to see how you handle that.
Ernie was my personal favorite this whole video, absolute Rockstar. My two other favs were Jocinda and Dimitri. This team kicked butt all playoffs. Poor Monsters though, being one of default non pro inspired teams and making it all the way just to get humiliated... ouch.
I assume I was recommended this because of Poofesure's last vid lol. I can safely say you're a lot better at the game than he is, even though that may not be a very high bar.
The way the “out of play” works in this game is that you get two bases when the ball goes out of play. If you are on the way running to third base or even running back to second, but you are on the base path between second and third when the ball goes out of play, you will score every time.
This 2 video production is the best way I've spent 2 hours at work ever. Absolutely amazing. The music, the edits, the humor, the ups and downs. Spectacular!
Yknow, on top of nostalgia for backyard baseball, this little series has really reminded me of why I love the strategy of baseball. You talking about trading outs for runs was a good reminder of how sharp and exciting the game really is. Rare man to make me root against the Yanks, is all I'll say.
Ryan when I clicked on the first video I never in my wildest dreams would've expected to laugh as hard or as often as I did in this series. Truly a masterpiece. Thank you 🙇♂️
I think Aluminum Power Hit is fair. It's the power-up so it's rare and earned from good plays. You're still not spamming the base power-hit. I'd like to see it used, but maybe other people (or yourself) like the added challenge of extra restrictions like that. Either way, great video and it's nice seeing these childhood classics get some love. :)
are you kidding me its 1:30 in the morning and I decide to watch part one before going to bed NOT REALIZING I WOULD HAVE TO STAY UP UNTIL 2 BECAUSE THERE IS A PART TWO AND NOT KNOWING THAT THE SERIES WOULD BE THIS GOOD
I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid. Couldn't pass it up when your video got randomly suggested to me. Honestly hit the highs and lows I feel when watching professional sports, very well done

Well done! I used to play in a H2H league a few years back, learned a couple tricks with custom files. If you want to run this back using *even worse* generic kids, or Mr Clanky, or any combination, lemme know and I can walk you through setup. :)
How did you play this online? Sounds like great fun, always wanted to do a mini draft league with a few friends where we draft all of the backyard kids with one of these games but could never figure out how to actually set it up.

Luanne Lui may have the single greatest batting average the world has ever seen. What an absolute monster
What was the number? I think I missed it
She gets on base.
And barely old enough to form memories too.
And a monster pitcher too apparently, what a beast
Luanne Lui is truly a monster on the field. I thank god that girl can’t read above a gradeschool level otherwise she may be weaponised for evil.
Luanne is the Rickey Henderson of Backyard Baseball. An absolute terror on the base path.
