  • The old way of diagnosing back, butt (piriformis) and sciatica issues is slow, outdated, and backwards. It's common for folks to get stuck on a diagnostic hamster wheel. Everywhere they go, they're told some "other" reason for why they hurt- or just the opposite, things look "normal." There's a faster, cheaper & better way! Do-It-Yourself (DIY)
Either way, the diagnostic process becomes a sticking point for so many people. My DIY Diagnostic Guide has helped many get clarity and move beyond their diagnosis.
The NEW diagnostic model involves teaching you how to self evaluate. Self tests for sciatica, back, hip, and piriformis problems are easy to perform. It's an interactive process of discovery that involves where you hurt, what happened, and what things make you feel better vs worse. Most people can very quickly get a ballpark idea of what's going on and why they hurt with just a few key pieces of information and examination.
In this video, I invite you to join a free private Facebook Group I created as an extension of my DIY Diagnostic Guide...
As only one person receiving MANY questions and requests daily, my hope is that this free group can allow me to impact more people and better answer the questions or clear up confusion you may have about your diagnosis (or lack thereof).

Dear Dr Charlie, greetings from the UK, thank you for making these videos and challenging us unlike the high majority of other RUclipsrs telling everyone too bloody stretch when they could be over stretching!
I was doing a bending exercise with weight 7 years ago I felt a tightness and my disc bulged out.
I have had 2 MRIs in 7yrs, "L4 L5 disc prolapse right side compressing descending nerve" so I get dead right leg and right foot pain occasionally however the biggest problem is when I sit down I slowly start to feel extreme fatigue, I've been like this for 5 years it's a nightmare, you had a recent similar video with a lady and you healed her.
I believe im compressing on the nerve when sitting but no one ever talked about sciatica causing extreme tiredness fatigue? Anyway this video is really scary timing because I saw a surgeon after the first MRI 7 years ago who said the situation could get worse with surgery but I am seeing another surgeon this Friday and was looking to possibly get the surgery because stretching or strengthening the glutes & lower back muscles and other physiotherapy has not helped my key problem.
    I'm out of ideas I'm healthy 40 male I'm thin 10st I don't drink much alcohol and I don't smoke.
Any guidance would be highly appreciated and please let me know what your price plans are for potential help before I make this drastic next step.
    Riky

Went to my doctor about back/ glute pain to Only have prescribed ibuprofen 😭. Months later I requested PT and an X-ray . I basically had to do my own research because my doctor had zero motivation to help me . I also saw a chiropractor… to be honest I have no clue if anything helps but this videos game me an idea that my pain was real and I wasn’t alone

Thank you for making these videos I would love some help. Got injured on February 1st I worked warehouse and stood ten hours per day lifting heavy items from above bending and twisting to pack pallets always on my feet. Climbing stairs and bending kneeling twisting lifting pulling and pushing heavy carts in a giant warehouse. My stature is I’m 27 5’1 and about 105 lbs.
Had to file for workers comp and leave the job due to not being able to return to normal function.
Went through the workers comp process and even had an MRI that showed degenerative disc bulges from my l1 all the way to mySI. It showed mild facet hypertrophy and They never treated me I did physical therapy for six weeks which was painful and I believe only exacerbated my issues.
I currently am still not able to work and filing for disability because I have trouble standing for more then 20 minutes, I can’t bend my back forward much at all or backwards. I’m having knee pain mainly on my left side.
My butt hurts when I sit on hard surfaces I have a lumbar support I carry to wear for hard surfaces all the time on my lower back and my butt.
I can’t sit for a long time either because it starts to just burn like pressure is pulling my body down like a achey stabbing pain.
I often get muscle spasms due to pain and pop which hurts when I get up from a sitting to standing or lying down to sitting ect.
Morning and evening I have the worst pain from my lower lumbar region down my hips on the outside where the hip bones are and down my thigh into my knee cap - I’ve only had it extend to my foot a couple of times but it mainly stays on the back of my thigh or my tailbone and my lower back.
I have trouble walking on any uneven ground it really hurts it feels like it’s popping in and out of place each time I walk on an uneven ground or require using more of my lower half to take the lead so to speak.
Stairs are difficult extremely. I have to force myself to get up my stairs and sometimes lift my legs because it’s like they burn and feel like they are being stretched and pulled apart from my back.
      Going to sleep is horrible.
I’m starting to get pain in my lower abdomen just from my back pain.
Every time I go to sleep I toss and turn because laying on my side hurts really bad on both sides. On my back is okay but I can’t fall asleep that way so usually rolling to my stomach with two pillow underneath for support just doesn’t help. I wake up in so much pain.
I use a heating pad and ice and I do light yoga and I’m pretty healthy. Have had no issues with my back prior and was super flexible and super in shape before getting hurt.
      I can’t fold like I use to
Bend forward much - reaching side to side hurts. I did some of these test in your videos which have gave me some insight but I’m currently awaiting to get seen at Kaiser for more treatment and they are thinking of injection therapy to help me.
I’m also having memory issues and I’ve never had this before which I don’t know if can contribute.
I’m dropping things more - having poor balance in general - tend to shake and need to sit down.
Been really fatigued and my injury just makes me tired all the time.
I’ve been having trouble going to the bathroom - number two specifically.
I drink lots of water and eat healthy and have taken stool softeners and liquid laxatives to help as suggested by the workers comp doctor but that has not helped me much. I still have issues going because where I hurt my back is supposedly where the same nerves are to use to deficit.
I’m not sure what is wrong but they believe it may be a strain but I think it is possibly piriform syndrome or a combination of things.
When I did the straight raise leg test both of my lower back dimple areas of you will hurt and lit on fire with pain -
I couldn’t get my legs up high at all because it hurts but I did those and they were positive.
Twisted from side to side and moved back which hurt to.
I’d love some help with diagnosing or helping me. Your videos are super helpful

How can one differentiate peripheral neuropathy from sciatica (herniated disc)?
I have a mix of symptoms, like tingling around and under heels, resembling PF (65% of the time), pain in buttocks and knee (20%), short intermittent tingling on the foot, calf, buttock (15%).
I have had herniated disc for 15 years. Those symptoms wee flared up recently. Although they were triggered by my running activity, but I seems to me a serious problem is behind them (not only herniated disc). Appreciate it if you share your thoughts

Dr. Charlie, may I be so bold as to make an observation? You have A LOT of different videos here on RUclips. Taking yourself out of 'you', and looking at the list or icons of all of your videos, what would you think if you clicked on your hashtag and you were confronted with all of those choices? Maybe that is wht you seem to be headed in the direction of condensing your program and working with the DIY flowchart?

Hi, I loved your video and I wanted to ask you a question. I am a lady who used to weigh 410 lbs. I have worked really hard and am down to 240. I have a tummy problem and I was wondering if you have ever seen anyone that their tummy has torn muscles in the part where your leg meets your body. Thank you for everything, sincerely Christine

You are in an interesting and most likely very frustrating position. Almost every comment or correspondence you've mentioned contains 'What do you think...?' or 'Opinion...?' I have no doubt, already, that your intention is to truly help people AND learn the most you can about this complex malady, but I'm sure you come to the same result as I have quickly while deciding your best course of action. What is the best way for you to maximize your time and talent? You are correct, of course, that, were I to go through the normal route of consulting a PCP and going through those motions, I would be headed for an MRI or some type of imaging, and also a visit to a specialist. Not saying that that isn't a viable action, but I feel that I can better help myself by doing some investigation first. Plus I have no insurance at this time. I have answered the questions on the FB group page, and I will try to get the flow chart. Whether this is what I think it is has yet to be determined, but I do thank you for your effort and sincerity. I, for one, will inform you of my journey and try to be as detailed as possible, and maybe it will be beneficial to others.
