I absolutely ADORE the vibe of this video. The music and narration are so cozy and you’re the perfect mix of funny and informative when it comes to “sticking things” into the Powkiddy 😂. AMAZING video and you’ve got me giving my Anbernic RG35XX the side eye 👀
Aaah thanks so much!! What a lovely first comment on this video 🥰 (speaking of the rg35xx, I have the H version of that coming in soon!! Can’t wait to post a review on it. I think I’m gonna like it!)
Oh my lord it's like coming home with a warm cup of coffee and settling down with an oodie to play some retro games. I love your vibe Crystal! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for this review. I have been longing for a perfect Pico-8 handheld experience for so long and this looks like it's finally it. Can't wait to play High Stakes on it! Also I was delighted to see you play Goodboy Galaxy which is my favorite cute metroidvania and Catrap which has just the coolest rewind mechanic I can think of in any game that age
This comment brightened my day! I am excited to hear about how your pico-8 experience goes with the RGB30, and it’s always great to meet people who love the same cute games! Have a happy weekend!
I loved it. Stellar review. You just inspired me as I have done mine yet. This device is one of my favorites. Hey if you have not tried yet tried running 4.3 games in 8.7 they look amazing and it minimizes the black bars around the screen to the point that you don't really need bezels. Love the work you have been doing lately, keep it up.
Great review. I've been considering this handheld primarily for Pico-8 games but forgot, as you mentioned, that GB games are nearly 1:1 as well and a good match. I was surprised to see you running Stardew Valley though and it has me wondering what else it can run that looks good at that 1:1 display.
I just found this channel because of this video (I have the white RGB30 and I love it) and the cute and cozy in these videos is off the charts. As a dude I'm always happy to hear a female voice in this male dominated retro space. Subbed. Love your content.
This was a fun review. I'm new to the channel. Oh, the second USB-C port is an OTG port, which stands for On The Go. That G does look like a C, so no big deal...
Hello and welcome! Glad to have you here~ And yes, I found out I’d said the wrong letter after I uploaded lol. I think there is a note in the description to clarify, but maybe not everyone looks. Oops! Thanks for the reminder ❤️
I have a yellow one like you that arrived 2 days ago, I bought it mainly for GB and GBC. I also have a Miyoo Mini Plus that I bought recently, great device but just a bit too small, I could not get on with shoulder buttons on the Metroid games. I absolutely love this for the 1:1 aspect ratio and the screen, D-pad is a little heavy for me, but I'll get used to it.. I do own a few more, X55, RG503, Pocket Flip + 2 Steam Decks (LCD & OLED). They are all horses for courses. Currently swapping to ARKOS and configuring systems. This will be my "get a retro hit" travel device when the deck is too heavy and big for my hand luggage.
@@MIDNITE69I knowwww. I was shocked that it looks so good? You do have to zoom out quite a bit to make sure all of the dialogue text box is visible. But I kinda like Stardew zoomed out.
JSAUX makes a Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter, I got a 2 pack off Amazon, then I can just plug in a regular HDMI cable, which is nicer than getting a single Mini to regular cable since I can plug into cables that are already hooked up to displays in various places. I have the Anbernic RG353M, not the RGB30, but it's a pretty similar device. I thought about getting an RGB30 just for that 1:1 screen since that's so rare to see. I might still pick one up someday. Fun video. I gotta look into portmaster. Also cool to know the RGB30 came with JELOS. That's what I put on my RG353M, and I like it a lot. I read the changelogs on every new release they do, hoping to see some improvements for my device.
The RG353M is a really good-looking device! I did end up getting a mini HDMI to HDMI adapter, but still haven't tested it out yet. Can't wait to try it, though! I went into a total rabbit-hole with portmaster. So many fun games to try. Hope you have fun with it!
I don’t know if it plays all the ps1 games, but it should come very close. And it actually looks pretty great. About the same screen size as a miyoo mini at 4:3 aspect, and you can add pretty bezels if you’re into that. And the game is Grandia for PlayStation! =D
Crystal, first I absolutely love your review of the RGB 30! My sister bought one not too long ago. You also convinced me to get the yellow RGB 30 instead of the green and I love green, it’s my favorite color. The yellow is absolutely gorgeous! Also what’s the name of the game that looks like Sailor Moon? Also, I am so so excited that I can add Stardew Valley to it and play.😊
Sorry I got so excited and accidentally pressed send. It’s actually called Sailor Moon: Another Story. It’s on my Cozy Retro Games video if you want to check that one out =D and the yellow is so cute and classic, I think? Reminds me of the color of the gameboy color. Love it. Glad you’re enjoying!!!
the things i'd do to shove my usb drive into this cutie. on a serious note it is way too hard to pick a handheld these days. so many options, and i feel like all options have their strengths and weaknesses. there's no definitive best handheld :(
Yeah, definitely. If I stop to think about how many retro handhelds I have, I’m sure I’d be horrified lol. But the nice thing about these devices is that you can use them as an all-in-one device OR you can pick one or two systems/games that play really well on a certain device and use them that way. I’m planning on using this one for pico-8 and GB/GBC, plus DS games. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing device. That way you can justify having more than one 😜
4 months late here. Your review is so cute and adorable. You sold me. I'll get this one for my daughter. We already have Miyoo mini plus too. But the fact that I can play my Stardew Valley on this one, I know I'll buy it. Just wondering are you still using JelOS?
No, it doesn’t. It’s basically a standalone install of Linux Stardew and doesn’t connect to Steam at all, unfortunately. Still nice to have a playthrough going on this small device, though. On-the-go Stardew is great, but I’ve always found the mobile version of it kind of finicky.
@@crystal_is_cozy I am so confused. The powkiddy website doesn't show these buttons for the yellow colorway. They're just the regular black buttons with the letter embossed which is how my white one is. Well crap maybe I'm just gonna have to paint mine. I like how you customized yours though with those cute butterflies.
How's the Virtual Boy emulation. Miyoo Mini VB emulator plays too slow to enjoy. Would love to find an inexpensive handheld to play Warioland on the go. I've recently discovered the 3DS VB emulator and that as helped me get that VB portable experience. Please let me know if this is capable 🤞✌️
Sorry I took a while to get back to you! I don’t really play Virtual Boy games, but the fellow game dweebs have informed me that Virtual Boy emulation should emulate pretty well on the RGB30. Hope this helps!
