When I got a call from a Generac Contractor to replace the SnapRs and the urgency on their voice alarmed me that something was serious for them to rush replace SnapRs. I tried not to alarm my GF that we were in danger but hoped they got here post haste, they did and that was good, but then about 3 months later my system lost communication with the Generac battery, turned out was blown fuses but again I had to worry if it was in danger, It took a month for contractor to get out to us to replace 2 fuses. My experience with solar has not been optimum and if Had to do it over again I would just opt for some kind of emergency power backup, the expense the commitment, the technical diffuculty.
I remember when batteries started exploding in Generac generators and they really tried to convince us our techs were incorrectly installing the cranking batteries, but then said “hey by the way we’re also sending a new trickle charger for existing installs.” I have zero trust in anything Generac says.
After replacement of the old snaps and new software update my pwrcell is working great. Only regrets is only having 3 batteries in our cabinet. We are going to put another 3 in. It's wasn't a great start. But they did make my system work correctly
@@stmcgarret I found a city electric in Texas that sells them fairly reasonable. Install yourself dony pay someone a grand when you can do it with less than 5 tools. Just make sure you put your system in self supply and drain your existing 3 first. You want them all to charge at the same time. If your 3 are in. 100% and install 3 new ones you can over charge your first 3. I used to work in the solar industry
After 18 months of going through the whole Snap RS replacement of a thousand cuts, our system still occasionally gives us a 700f error which doesn't really mean anything except that it's not working. Once you wait through the long wait times, the customer service agents are usually helpful. The fact that you have to call them so often is not good. The worst part is that you have to check the system every day for errors because it only shows the errors on the panel it does not send an error message anywhere else. Sometimes we lost whole days of production just because we didn't treat our generac system like a pet that needs to be fed.
AS A CUSTOmier. 1. purchased house with 53 panels on the roof. 2. added battery backup. 3. have generator backup. I need a whole customer education on how to look at my system. My orginal installer went bankrupt so had a new solar company from springfield mo do the install after about 5 months the system is now working properly working in a priotized manner. 1. tied to grid, charging batteries, 2. grid power down, batteries and inverter providing power (AC), and 3. Backup gen comes on to charged batteries when power level falls to 25%. It took from April to mid July to accomplish that. I need to be educated on how to monitor system properly.
"wasn't performing to the quality standards that generac expects and maintains". Dude..the things CAUGHT FIRE. The word "euphemism" doesn't even begin to cover this. I appreciate Generac for having the cojones to come on the show and talk about it..but seriously...it's waaay too late to do damage control at this point.
Good information, we worked with one generac system good name but the product is just not there yet. Inverters don't talk to each other and if you have more then one inverter it can be a proble.
After just a bit of nudging, my installer has proactively replaced all of my SnapRS modules. But my PWRcell battery became unbalanced a couple months back and the installer has TRIED to get it back to balance. Still a work in progress ...
Well that explains why I couldn’t get anyone to come out and give me a quote on installing these things. I called multiple generac dealers and nobody ever called me back
Had a PwrCell installed nearly 2 years ago along with battery backup. Only noticed there was a communications issue with 2 devices on the inverter display when I tried to switch to Clean Backup prior to hurricane Idalia. Called Generac support and they said to contact my installer. When I asked why did Generac not inform me that half my panels were out they replied we have too many customers to monitor everyone. There was no indication in the mobile app there was even an issue. No idea how long this has been out. Contacted our installer and love these guys. All SnapRS need replaced and should arrive next week. After researching this now understand its a safety fire issue. Wow, why was Generac not recalling these? I would like to see the Root Cause Analysis and Corrective action taken. How do we really know the issue was corrected with the new models?
Also, had a valve sink into the head. Someone from generac sent a replacement head out but by then I bought a Lincoln welder generator with a Kohler engine. 3200 hours on it now. 9k watts continuous. Off grid.
In this industry there has been product defects with every technology out there. You do not get innovation without growing pains. It’s not a case of having a problem it is how any company handles it when they do. This is called customer service. It was clear that they take ownership of the situation and they are standing behind their product and the service by making things right. That is what I care about as a consumer.
Interesting video, but what I did not hear was "We had problem X caused by Y and have enacted changes 1, 2, and 3". All we heard was how great they are (and were?), but if that were true, there would be no need for your original video (or the plethora of others like it). No ownership. No acknowledgement of a problem indicates no change in people or process. Just low-dollar marketing based damage control.
I was hoping for more detailed info as well. But, he may have been limited as to what he could talk about as they may be suing the manufacturer of those Snaps...
Mine were removed by my installer AFTER they falied, not proactively. Now waiting for the new version of snaps to arrive. Where I live the roof is cement, Id rather not have the updated ones installed at all but it's a requirement
I’m an actual PWR Cell system has been junk, never runs more than six months without failure. Has failed multiple times during power cuts. It has safety issues with the snap RS fiasco and now my system is down as often as up and Generac only gives me a run around. MY SYSTEM IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. This is why Generac has four class action lawsuits pending.
The faulty 801RS was replaced with the 802RS, which has largely been trouble free. Even at the time of this recording, the 802 was being used. Generac helped us replace SNAPS for 300+ of our customers, and we helped generac do this replacement for many other customers whose original installers were unable to help them.
