Because I read on a article that Birthdays started as a form of protection from evil spirits. Pagen cultures thought that days of major change such as "birth" days, welcomed evil spirits. Candles were lit in response to evil spirits as if they represented a light in darkness.

Go look at the annotations of a 1560 Geneva Bible, and you'll see that they understood the truth about the 70th week of Daniel and properly recognized that Christ fulfilled that week. To say otherwise is antichrist doctrine. Daniel 9:27 has nothing to do with a future man of sin and future covenant. The covenant that Daniel is praying to God about earlier in verse 4 is not some future covenant of 2023 and beyond. Daniel 9:27 has to do with Jesus Christ, Messiah the Prince, confirming the already-existing everlasting covenant of Genesis 17 in His Own blood, which is why His sacrifice (in the middle of the 70th week when He was cut off but not for Himself) caused "the (Levitical) sacrifice and the oblation to cease."
