Eltville is the largest town in the Rheingau region. It is an extremely interesting area, famous not only for its numerous monuments, but also for its quality wines! The name comes from the Latin Alta villa, which means "high city". It is known for the production of wine and sect, and the cultivation of roses. Since 2006, it is also called the city of Gutenberg, who stayed here at the court of Archbishop and Elector Adolf II of Nassau. There are also famous half-timbered houses (Fachwerkhaus), of which there are quite a few in Eltville.
