Two service calls I ran last week. I changed the compressor the next day but forgot my camera. In this case the reason for compressor failure was the system was almost 9lbs overcharged.
Here are a few symptoms of a compressor with bad valves.
Low SH & Low SC
Less than a 3:1 compression ratio
Low compressor amp draw (in most cases)
Will not build head pressure
Will not pump down
The compressor is cool/cold to the touch or sweating
(NOTE: You should have several of these symptoms at the same time before calling a compressor bad)
A couple gems right there Brad. Stick a fork in that compressor! 9lbs overcharge, I mean damn that is crazy!
Great video and good job ob the compressor call Brad. Way to verify it before giving up on it. 9 lbs. overcharge is ridiculous. Take care,Brett
Thanks Brett!
Yeah, I was shocked when I weighed the recovery tank on that one!
Ran into the same thing today for the first time, had me scratching my chin for a minute. Remembered Eddie L's video, tried to pump it down. No Joy. Nice Video.
Thanks John!
I should be getting my warranty SMAN back next week. I can't wait! Feels like I went back in time with these old gauges! lol!
Loved the ductwork!!!
Thanks for watching man!
no worries- thanks for turning me on to trutech. my second order is on its way!
Learned something new. Thanks man.
I remember that now.
Thank you!
If you check out my SMAN failure video you can see what happend. Something broke under the face of the gauges and was leaking refrigerant.
Thanks for watching!
It said in the description that it was.
In his description he has a symptom if you have less than a 3:1 compression ratio, I thought that the compression ratio should be kept as low as possible to increase efficiency and to extend life.
lol I guess that I should be reading the descriptions before asking questions
Hey Brad Great Video brother.
Ya Buddy that compressor is done for great find.
Gotta love that duct work that is just horriable i see crap just like it here all the time
What did you do with your Smans
Great video take care
Ha. I got Testo 550 the first time and now I am getting a Fieldpiece STA2 and a Fieldpiece Mini wetbulb/drybulb meter. When I saw your EER video I already had it in my mind that I must have the stuff to do that. I had a wetbulb meter, but I wanted something that could be "in duct". I was thinking that I would love to see the BTUH/EER difference on some of these units where, for example, after new TXV's. As the new TXV holds superheat at 10(or whatever) instead of 25 how much would eer improve
Great video , Haven't checked very many scrolls ,can they be checked this as well?
Bad valves ain't cool big waste of electricity right there!! OMG tarring that return like that oh the humanity job security I guess, but makes yah sick to see that stuff. Great video!!!! :)
great video. what did ya do to your smans that they had to be warrantied?
great video on the compressor. have you changed it out yet?
Great video !! Where in SC ? I am in Greenville.
@ 1:58 where did you disconnect the condenser fan motor from?
So do I get a hint to what you have coming ? lol
Quicker to just check amps on compressor
Might as well say, Not checking parts is faster.... 🙄😏
Ductboard strikes again. Hate that stuff ! Make a Metal Plenum for those people. it's Return air . metal plenum. insulate on outside with cut wrap and spray glue and your done ! nice clean no fibreglass air !
OcRefrigeration,Hvac & Electrical. Man, this is an old one. 2012 video. lol
Thanks for watching
was it overcharged?
"Seeing" lol typo!! :)
Wonder where the guy that did that duct work got his certification
Quality duct. Someone's never heard of a flat slip or a drive key
