Two service calls I ran last week. I changed the compressor the next day but forgot my camera. In this case the reason for compressor failure was the system was almost 9lbs overcharged.
Here are a few symptoms of a compressor with bad valves.
    Low SH & Low SC
Less than a 3:1 compression ratio
Low compressor amp draw (in most cases)
    Will not build head pressure
    Will not pump down
The compressor is cool/cold to the touch or sweating
(NOTE: You should have several of these symptoms at the same time before calling a compressor bad)

Ran into the same thing today for the first time, had me scratching my chin for a minute. Remembered Eddie L's video, tried to pump it down. No Joy. Nice Video.

If you check out my SMAN failure video you can see what happend. Something broke under the face of the gauges and was leaking refrigerant.
    Thanks for watching!

It said in the description that it was.

In his description he has a symptom if you have less than a 3:1 compression ratio, I thought that the compression ratio should be kept as low as possible to increase efficiency and to extend life.

lol I guess that I should be reading the descriptions before asking questions

Ha. I got Testo 550 the first time and now I am getting a Fieldpiece STA2 and a Fieldpiece Mini wetbulb/drybulb meter. When I saw your EER video I already had it in my mind that I must have the stuff to do that. I had a wetbulb meter, but I wanted something that could be "in duct". I was thinking that I would love to see the BTUH/EER difference on some of these units where, for example, after new TXV's. As the new TXV holds superheat at 10(or whatever) instead of 25 how much would eer improve
