    Always great to find some excellent GameBoy games. I really need to get a GBA SP (AGS-101) to play my games. Too bad those are getting a bit pricey so I might get a regular one instead and mod it.

    What caught my eye was “Ikari no Yousai 2” at the 0:16 mark (just below the maroon Zelda: Oracle game). It’s the Japanese exclusive sequel to “Fortified Zone,” I think. Fun and English-friendly, and the price looked good (though I’m not certain because I couldn’t see it clearly. Looked to be under $16 USD in the video, but goes for $40+ on Ebay.)

    • @ScruffyLookinRGB
      @ScruffyLookinRGB  3 года назад +1

      Nice find. Id never heard of it before so i looked it up looks like a fun top down contra like action game. That is a good deal ist it?

    • @jeremylovesretro

      @@ScruffyLookinRGB I’d recommend it. I think I paid $20ish for it when I was there early last year.
      If you hear of more GB Japan exclusive games, let’s have a video! There are tons of videos about Famicom and Super Famicom Japan exclusives (which have been hugely helpful to me), but not many English-friendly GB mentions.

  • @coolpep111
    @coolpep111 3 года назад

    Hey man I love the video, i sadly just missed the premiere by a hour. I a bit overwelmed so i took my time by watching it another time. I would probably pick up mainly carts that have odd shapes or seem different or of which have interesting label, example is link's awakening dx, i really like the look of that label. I probably also check out junk bins and junk at hard off to look for cheap common games i dont have. That orbital game in box (9:58) is from quite unque game series i heard something to do with music and puzzles. i never knew that there were so many different gameboy special editions that we did not get here, that all blacks gba is awesome (i really like rugby).
    Pokemon green and pokemon red are the first ones. Pokemon blue is updated version where they improved the sprites of the pokemon. I think the english release is based on the pokemon sprites of japanese pokemon blue, but layout and version differences of pokemon green and red. Green might be more expensive because in the west it was not released and there are many internet myths of pokemon green, which probably both resulted in that people from outside of japan want that game more and because of that higher demand the game is bit more expensive because it probably sells better.
    I probably would have picked up the cheap gameboy, cuz i want to try a backlight mod for either gbc or gba.
    quetions for you:
    Is there max price you would pay for game that seem interesting to you? I for instance think some of the more expensive games seems cool but i never going to pay more than like maybe 40 euro for old game gameboy i really want. So the really expensive games i usually get reproduction cart that is in different coloured cart to to try it out. Are you against repros? Do you play the roms on your computer or on a cart to play on real hardware.

    • @ScruffyLookinRGB
      @ScruffyLookinRGB  3 года назад +1

      Coolpep im glad you liked this episode. Looks like quite a few other people seemed to enjoy this one especially. Thanks for teaching me the reason why pokemon green is the more expensive one.
      To answer your question i wouldnt pay over 4000yen for a game either there are so many more affordable and fun games out. there im not against repros at all especially if the game is just silly expensive. I dont own any flash carts so i either play the rom on my pc or my soft modded new 3DS. But my favorite way to play is with real original hardware and my pvm.

    25:52 That's Money Idol Exchanger, or Money Puzzle Exchanger outside Japan. A washed out, yet still playable version of the SNK game on Neo Geo.
    About the GB Tetris game, a way to tell if it's a Minuet version is to look at the box. There's no hyphen between the words "Bullet" and "Proof", while later was corrected in "Bullet-Proof Software".
    However, you still have to check the cart, and then it's much easier to find out.

    • @ScruffyLookinRGB
      @ScruffyLookinRGB  3 года назад

      Interesting it must be a good one if its that expensive.

      @@ScruffyLookinRGB money idol exchanger is a really good puzzle, I got the PS1 version and it's lot of fun if you like this type of game. It plays a little like magical drop but with a neat system of japanese coins to gather so that they transform into another (5 coins of 10 makes a coin of 50, 2 coins of 50 makes one of 100....). Very fun but expensive even on PS1.

    Hi! I'm going to Japan next month and looking to buy unopened game boy colors in box (like the pokemon silver + gbc bundle) as well as brand new games like pokemon silver, gold, and some classic game boy games like red, blue, and green. Do they also have those brand new and what's a good price for them? I've been doing my pre-trip research and most of what I'm seeing are used items although still in very good condition. Thank you so much and this is by far the best video I've seen showcasing retro game boys in Akihabara on here. Great work!!!

    • @ScruffyLookinRGB
      @ScruffyLookinRGB  Год назад

      Thanks i appreciate the kind words 🙏🏿 While you might come across some mint ones here and there they will be priced quite high. At the moment gameboy colors are quite popular. Since Japan has opened up travel again finding any in Akihabara is quite difficult. They tend to sell out as soon as they hit the shelf. Your best bet is to try locations outside of tokyo hardoffs and recycle shops. Pricing is really up to each individual shop so it fluctuates. And prices have gone up considerably since October 2022. But if you are spending the high usd you will get a reasonable deal😉💸
