Welcome back my friends to another frantic week of SpaceX’s Starship Development adventure as we watch the final rundown for SpaceX Starship Flight 4. Has the FAA REALLY Just Cleared the Way!? Exciting times, all around a quite bizarre mishap that threw a spanner in the works. Along with that, some more trouble causing further delays with Starliner, frustration showing from the Pentagon for the delivery of their future security missions with Vulcan Centaur, Starlink Group 6-58, Group 8-7 & Group 6-59, the G5 Solar Storm was epic, and a whole bunch more.

I think your theory about Ship 31's temporary change of career to a weld-master LOL You can see the very large ejection of cryogenic nitrogen when we see those huge sparks and then a continuous spray after the large burst.... I don't see any other possibilities ... not unless the short came first and it was so big that it melted a hole into the cryo-pipe which, under a bunch of pressure, ripped open and spit out a bunch of nitrogen.... but that really doesn't seem as likely.. I think the pipe bursting first, THEN the sghort7 happened from the wires becoming damaged.
You mentioned hydraulic lines in the raceway too.... I'm fairly certain this wasn't a hydraulic line that broke.. it was for sure carrying cryogenic nitrogen..... if it was hydraulic fluid we would have seen it spraying everywhere and not that huge cloud.... PLUS it may have even caught fire from those sparks if it was hydraulic fluid..... I'm not sure if it's flammable, but if it is then it's a pretty stupid idea having it next to such high power electric lines... just in case of a situation exactly like this....
BUT during a REAL flight it wouldn't be nitrogen in those lines... so this could have lead to a HUGE RUD on the test stand!!!!
- - - MAYBE SpaceX should consider NOT HAVING HIGH POWER WIRES NEXT TO THE ROCKET FUEL PIPES!!!!! - WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?!?!? (I REALLY hope I'm completely wrong about this, because that sounds like a REALLY STUPID placement and a disaster just WAITING TO HAPPEN!!) - It really seems like SUCH and EASY FIX too! they could run the electric line just outside the raceway and then just ADD ANOTHER COVER... this separates the electric from the fuel.. I mean WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?!?!?
- - This is pretty important IMO Marcus... do you think you could ask Elon on X about this? He would respond to you before any of us and it's not just your channel that is bringing this up... Maybe you could get him to explain what this was :)
OHHH CRAP... SORRY!!! You said 'PNEUMATIC' pipe....not 'HYDRAULIC' pipes..... so do you mean it's AIR in those pipes, and not hydraulic fluid? In that case there shouldn't be any risk of fire (not unless they use O2 or methane as the 'air' lol I doubt that tho) - but still.... hopefully Elon could tell us about this one
Hey Marcus, oddball question for moving vehicles to KSC - if a booster was given a nose-cone addon for aerodynamic efficiency, could it fly itself high enough, or long enough downrange, from Starbase to make a landing at KSC?
@@Nobe_Oddy Yea, we are not 100% sure what is contained in the raceway, but there is piping in there so PNEUMATIC seems a reasonable speculative guess.
Does spacex delays by the faa make clear the evil of biden?
Elon has done two things: try to make each cleaner and make humanity a multi planetary species.
And biden and WEF has been working to impede and sedtroy elon for being nonwoke
Do not vote for biden
ULA won 60% of the national security launches without even having a certified rocket to launch them!!! We all remember how hard it was for Space X to get certified, ULA only needs 2 launches. It is great to have friends in Congress.
Bidens government doesn't like Elon. It's very simple.
And when your competitors are run by the no no man that openly speaks out against government censorship >:(
But once Starship succeeds at multiple launching and re-entry splashdowns and catches.
Dragon could be a major spoiler if Space X uses it. It allows Space X to time mitigate the manned certification portion of launch, refueling, and reentry of Starship. Allowing Space X to use the certified Dragon as a taxi for the crew once in orbit after launch or refueling, or even leave before reentry.
Congress may begin to defund some of that. Not the early stuff that is already in progress. Probably the later launches that ULA will go hat in hand asking for more money.
Politics... Tory Bruno is a super cool guy, though. I like ULA - good people.
I love SpaceX!!!!!
Wanna bet SpaceX can fulfill ALL the 25 launches (that ULA had todo before Dec 31 2027) on Falcon 9/Heavys (depending on need), by end of 2025, EVEN if given the entire contract tomorrow?
I love how nowadays we gloss over the fact that a booster has landed 21 times! Incredible stuff when you think about how 10 years ago this was absolutely unthinkable!
I also managed to capture the Swiss mountains glow in the aurora with the iss in frame as well! Wont forget that one
Amazing isn't it! Just crazy.
This comment confused me. What booster has landed 21 times? SpaceX has landed 293 boosters..
@@SimpleM4NB1062 has recently flown and landed for the 21st time. They have a fleet of multiple boosters
@Astromath Got it! Single booster. Thanks for reply. I assumed I was missing something.
And with that said, there are still people saying that starship will never succeed. Idk how people can be so willfully obtuse. Idk, I tend to think that it’s just obsessive “Elon derangement syndrome”. In fact a buddy of mine who loves everything space, but hates Musk, he always tells me that SpaceX loses money on every launch, there’s no way they turn a profit, it’s all a money shell game, the rich do it all the time, Falcon 9 isn’t truly reusable, it more than likely costs them more to refurbish the booster/engines than to simply build new, and on and on and on…
No matter what anecdotes or even proofs to the contrary I provide him, he refuses to budge. It’s almost like it’s political with some…🤔….😳….hey, wait a minute??
You have to wonder who got paid to make sure ULA gets US DoD flights even if the Pentagon has to wait. I'd be curious to know why Falcon Heavy wasn't awarded the work since they have been flight ready for years now. I can't believe we are still talking about Boeing Starliner issues after all this time...
Marcus, i believe you have the best coverage of the matters related to spaceflight on RUclips. Clear, concise, entertaining, and informative. Thank you for the quality of your content.
I just have to agree with this. This is the first spaceflight channel I found actually, by now I’ve discovered and watched pretty much everyone, and I totally agree.
I agree.
Well, Tim D and Scott M come to mind as superior regarding lifting the most impactful items to surface … that said, I’m subscribed here for a summary of the next level details. Good job Marcus!
Matt lowne does a pretty good job considering his space this week stays at around 10 minutes per week.
Kewall !
SpaceX's launch cadence has become bonkers. I never thought I'd see rockets launch as often as Falcon 9, what a workhorse!
from US taxpayers: You're welcome.
How do you work that out@@ThatOpalGuy
@ThatOpalGuy we are talking SpaceX, you are thinking of ULA or NASA.
@@ThatOpalGuy almost all of falcon launches are spaceX funded starlink missions, you buffoon. Nevermind the amount of $$$ spaceX has saved american taxpayers with their insanely cheap rocket, while the competition is 10x as expensive.
Marcus, I want to thank you for your complete coverage on the malfunction of ship 31. All the other SpaceX coverage was incomplete and didn't show the damage. Really Nice job. Thanks again.
After years and years of problems and troubleshooting Starliner was going to carry people on that flight and they only found out that the pressurant of their propulsion system was leaking out (of a single thruster flange) by accident after the flight was scrubbed. That's not a minor issue that can be dismissed so easily like "so doesn't seem like an issue that will hold things up long". Boeing is infamous for its safety record and coverups, we can't just take their word for it.
Well it’s certain you wouldn’t be a pioneer any time soon. This is exactly how boundaries are pushed. We won’t be going anywhere without many accidents along the way and people dying. That’s how it’s done son. Your feelings of safety when you fly are due to many many people dying during the first 50 years of flight.
@@Cloudminster There is nothing pioneering or innovative pushing boundaries with Starliner. It's the least viable crappy hodgepodge product Boeing could do for the money, despite them getting ~2x what Spacex got to make the truly excellent, very safe and innovative boundary pushing Dragon .
@@Cloudminster We have been putting humans in orbit for more than 50 years now. If putting humans in orbit is "pioneering" and "pushing boundaries" something is badly wrong.
@@sotosandroid6139 We agree but the process of boundary pushing in today's context which is building enough critical mass to go Moon-Moon Base-Mars-Mars Base will involve competition and not all of it 'sound'.
@@johnbrobston1334 Well yes but we fell off didn't we...interest, money and methods were very limited in creativity and strategy. We have to essentially 'redo' (1 through 5 in order to go 1 through 10) it over and we are now doing it at such scale compared to the single-threadiness of yesteryear. No point in denying that. But it now feels as though we're getting somewhere and having to break eggs doing it. I sometimes wonder if we're on a clock none of us are aware of in the general arena - like they something we don't and this is a back up plan to keep humanity going in the event of something ELA like. But I also know that I am likely a dreamer too!
SpaceX was testing a new, electric arc powered plasma RCS thruster. :D
I really appreciate these weekly updates. You’ve found the perfect balance for me. All info and no waffle. Thank you, Marcus.
ULA and Vulcan. Are they even capable of that kind of launch cadence? The wake-up call to those guys has to be lost business. I feel they are still running in “good old boy” mode while spacex is running in full tilt boogie mode!
I very much doubt it at this point.
I cannot count on one hand the number of times SpaceX was called in to save a launch. Something goes wrong with an Atlas rocket and SpaceX launches the payload in a short amount of time. They have proven themselves to be reliable and always there when you need the launch
SpaceX is literally a completely different corporate institutional culture from the ground up. Changing an existing corporate institutional culture of disposable "Old Space" launch services built around cost plus contracts, and monopsony at best, to one operating on rapid cadence reusable launchers with a commercial fixed price has yet to be done.
@@MilBard That is true. But Survival of the Fittest is a thing. Evolve or die. That's what ULA is facing and they don't feel like doing the hard work. They just want to get bought out and leave it for Blue Origin to work out
The primary bottleneck to Vulcan production still appears to be the BE-4 engines from Blue Origin.
I wonder how many Raptors SpaceX is now kicking out per week.
Besides the fact that SpaceX is putting everyone else to shame; The Dream Chaser thing does look cool. I would love to see that thing in action.
My Saturdays always start with a Refresher in the House!

yep. every Saturday i look forward to seeing Mr. House to see what has been happening at Starbase.
You guys aren't the only one. This is my Saturday morning routine
For sure a cup of hot coffee, and a Marcus house video playing makes my Saturday great.
Marcus, it is always such a pleasure to watch your take on this subject. You are concise and straight to the point, in a 20 minute video there is very little chaff, 20 minutes of info- no bull $hit , you the man!!
Marcus. I admire intelligent discourse. Your representative efforts are second to none. The way your able to make intelligent response to the sometimes seeming madness of starship development is awesome. Your a very intelligent man. Thankyou
Glad you enjoy the show Simon! Thanks for watching.
It's not a show. What. You do is accurate reporting. I value your efforts and your way of response. I'd personally fund your efforts if I was able to. Elon musk is only the most appreciated human in my family because of your coverage
I'd love to meet you in person. Your a great human bro
@@simonowen1956 Awww. Thank you! Watching and subscribing is what you are already doing and that helps more than anything.
I saw the Northern lights for my first time on May 11th. The ISS also did a flyby right through the lights. It was great!
Yeah Marcus, we had a spectacular aurora show last Saturday. The display lit up the entire sky to every horizon here in northern Idaho. We first noticed it literally as the last sliver of the sun dropped below the mountains. They were bright enough that even after the moon set several hours later, everything was still twilight lit.
Temporarily identify as an arc welder!! Lmao!! I am still on the floor. Omg, you guys totally crack me up! So funny. Thankyou.

Thank you Mr. Marcus House! Your videos have become part of my saturday morning zen ritual - if I've been too busy or tired to keep up with space news, I can count on you to bring me back up to speed. THANK YOU!!
I'm up here near the arctic circle, the night wasnt really dark enough to see much of anything.
Sleeping above the Arctic circle is a bitch in the summer. Especially now that magnetic north is gone past 24 degrees west declination increasing towards 24.5 East declination decreasing once we pass the centre of the nucleus separating the Sun's double torus OOrt cloud magnetosphere.
At least Noah's SE to NW new moon tidal tsunamis don't wash across the continents up there.
Old & New testament covenant along with a New Commandment to unite us all.
Jesus did say all would be revealed and he would write the truth about the crossing of the Sun's magnetic equator on your heart. Your heart & brain are like the earth's double torus magnetosphere & the Sun's OOrt cloud magnetosphere is a glory & the Galaxies Fermie cells are another kind of magnetosphere glory.
It's not you. It's not CO2. It is the earth's orbits crossing the ecliptic of the Sun's double torus OOrt cloud magnetosphere for the next millennium. These are just the birthing pains of this the millennium of climate change end times. Mystery of the 7 star crossings Jesus held in his hand is Obliquity in the Galactic Milanovitch climate cycles.
The truth shall set humanity free from the pharaohs/pharisees. Come to Jesus as time is short & your worm never dies.
Nope, sadly. I was trying to see my first northern lights ... But no go even at 1 during the night
Pressure containment breach of tank detached wiring causing the fire. The fire is relatively inconsequential, it's the breach of the tank that is the issue. Ship 31 is going to be scrapped after thorough investigation; no repairs. Will possibly cause some delay as SpaceX revalidates welding on other test articles. Not to worry, this is part of the process and why testing is done. Better to be safe than sorry.
Here’s a thought. Scrap starlinner, and provide SpaceX with the funds.

Hey @MarcusHouse. Great show. Be great to have realtime clocks in the sped up footage , get a better feel for stacking, just a suggestion, love ya work. etc :)
Here in South Wales UK, while waiting to see the Aurora, I watched the ISS glide serenely across the entire skyscape. Then an hour later feint pinks and reds appeared directly overhead, with hints of green further North.
Thanks for all the updates Marcus.
Is dangerous to watch those the radiation you getting charged particles damaging your eyes
Thanks! Particularly appreciate the Leuders citation, which I would have missed. All the best
I saw that pink/purple glow on the horizon, others in my town got some night mode pics with their phones that showed more, like the whole sky being colored.
11:39 Starhopper looks really good this way. More greeblies please. Perhaps a large lens eye, and a robotic arm wouldn't be wrong
Thanks Marcus. Enjoy catching up on what’s happening.
D-Ultimate Super Cool !
What a week it has been @MarcusHouse! I hope you and the family got out to capture some live shots of the Aurora, I really do want to get out to the Nile next time but I was really happy with what I captured out the back of Burnie and south of Ridgley. The number of first timers I was able to assist before hand and during the first couple of hours was so rewarding!
We had aurora visible on the gulf coast of Alabama! It was pretty amazing!
Great coverage...delivered in your always optimistic sentiment....we're really are seeing progress up close...thanks so much Marcus and team.
Great Video. .
Unbelievable just how much is going on at Space X.. Never a dull moment. ..
Thank you MH + Team for a quality upload.
Awesome work as always Markus. Keep up the great work. Lovely getting the sound through on the Falcon 9 landing😊
Thanks Marcus, Saturday feels incomplete without your videos.

Hi Marcus. What a great update! It's always fantastic to catch up with all the news. I missed the Auroras because I was at my desk finishing my latest book until 1am. I was so disappointed 😞. I went up a local hill fort the next night with no luck. I'm hoping I might see the next burst in a couple of weeks time.
Nice show Marcus. Thanks

I saw the dream chaser being transported down the freeway. Drove right past it.
Freaking epic!
Wow!
Great job. USA Georgia saw them.
another great weekly update. thanks marcus! cheers!
I really thought that once the BE4 engines were delivered and the first launch was essentially flawless, ULA was over the hump and we would see launch cadence increasing steadily and significantly. Now we learn that ULA is up for sale (let us hope that powers that be don't convince themselves that letting BO buy it is a good idea) and probably won't launch for 8 or 9 months from their first launch. And the US Space force is publicly expressing doubts about ULA's ability to fulfill its contract obligations.
What a debacle! (That's not the word I really wanted to use -- it's kind of prissy!)
Well now that BO have ramped up their engine production, ULA may recieve a new rocket engine every 5 months. Vulcan needs a total of 3 rocket engines. But this is only my perception of the situation. It could be worse.
🚀🏴☠️🎸
@@MichaelWinter-ss6lx 1 engine every 5 months?? That's nowhere near enough to achieve the cadence needed for them to fulfill their government contracts.
At this point why would it be a bad thing for Blue Origin to buy ULA?
@@MichaelWinter-ss6lx Vulcan needs a total of 3 rocket engines.
I'm pretty sure that Vulcan only uses 2 BE-4 per flight.
@@dirtypure2023 At this point why would it be a bad thing for Blue Origin to buy ULA?
The delays for Vulcan were Blue Origins delays on the engines. Why give the source of the problems more control?
It wasn't till Vulcan first flew that I heard Bezos say "we are looking at building an engine factory". So when will they go into full production rather than having the development people basically hand build them one at a time?
The Blue Origin motto seems to mean "dawdle all you can we will likely get there some day".
Thanks Marcus and company :) !
Just getting off the night shift and this!!!! Sweet!
The Aurora was friggen awesome from here in the Seattle area, with 100% overhead and to the horizon! The moon was a great addition, making for some wonderful night photography!

Thanks Marcus and Team...! I am 100% IN for the future that SpaceX is building....! The only limitation is our imagination. We Humans can do anything...!
It is incredibly inspiring.
No, the limitation is the use of chemical propulsion on Starship. Its all a pipe dream, as long as this remains as it is.
divno ste to kazali 👍✔🌞
There are only two Space Rocket companies i think that will pave the way here. SpaceX combined with Relativity Space Printing technology is the future of rocketry enabling construction of rockets possibly on other planetary bodies or on orbital platforms. They seem like they should be working together as they both want to go to Mars.
You are so cool. I watch every Saturday thank you so much xx
Yeah, fantastic work Marcus! 👍

The only way to start a Saturday. Thanks Marcus, great video!
Great presentation Marcus!❤
Thank you Marcus House ❤
I look forward to your updates. Every Saturday lot of great information love it. Keep up the good work
Thank You very much for what you do
The reason why the shells are cut that way is because its easier for the crane to maneuver them off. Instead of going all the way up, with the cut, it can be moved when lifted half way, (contingency).
Thanks for another great episode. Awesome!
Hey! Hey! Marcus!
Thanks Marcus. I look forward to your update each week and really like your show and enthusiasm for all things space.

Thanks very much!
B st one I seen all day !!!👍👍👍
Nice to notice the shots of segments for 2nd OLT with cleary labelled pipework & in metric !
All of that glass on the exterior of the star factory is going to look awesome when it vibrates in unison with 33 Raptor engines taking to the sky!
I am switching to T-Mobile. Full support for space phones!
I think someone forgot to open a valve or a valve got stuck.
In hydraulic situations, it's known as deadheading. If you're moving pressure through a pipe and there's no place for the pressure to go, you'll blow a pipe or a hose. In this case, it looks like a pipe blew, and as it bent over, it crimpped a few wires and caused a short.
And Bob's your uncle.
Saw the aurora in Christchurch New Zealand, That was the first time I've ever seen one, and most assured that was the first time an aurora had been visible over chch in my life time.
I find it amazing that the arms can move "100 tons" so precisely. Brute force with a delicate touch of precision?
Simply cool, IMO.
Great work ad always Marcus.
20:39 21 landing…. amazing
The aurora was pretty cool to see with my eyes and even better through the phone lens. Thanks for the weekly updates without any political mumbo jumbo that I have seen in some hosts on other channels. I feel we're here for cool space shit, so thanks for providing a weekly dose of what's going on :)
Love these videos! Thank you!
Thanks very much. Great videos as usual.
400 BAR is ridiculous pressure!
Yea, it is crazy the engineering needed to make this happen.
That's more than what I have in my bike tires
for those of us in the USA, thats about 5,800 PSI or about 180ish times the typical car tire pressure.
Good shots
Great stuff as usual, Marcus. Thanks!...;)
What happened to #31 is the reason ground testing is important. ... And I'm going to guess that this isn't the last time something like that happens; it's probably way cheaper to catch this sort of thing in a ground tests than it is to 100% guarantee they don't happen in the first place.
Always dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights. Never dreamed I would get to see them to the extent I did in South-Central Missouri near the Arkansas border. They were showing up in every direction of the compass. Always enjoy your weekly updates!
I'm taking a look at Surfshark while listening to this update!
The sky was clear and the sunset just right so I was able to see the 6-59 second stage, fairings, and booster from across the state near Tampa. With a clear sky can usually see the flames of a Cape launch but the sun reflecting off the bodies made this one a great viewing. Followed them down until they disappeared below the horizon.
I'm so chuffed that the best Space Industry watcher channel is a guy from my very own state of Tasmania at the end of the world!
Haha. Thanks David!
Yeah I saw some in auckland on the way home from work. Just saw some green over the top of the sunset.
love your channel!
The more I hear about ULA, the more I wonder why it even still exists. I get that we need multiple launch providers other than SpaceX but at this point it's like trying to prop up a horse and carriage company that can barely make enough carriages meanwhile Model Ts are just rolling off the line hot and ready.
Starliner goes for the same design approach as SpaceX just not on purpose!
The amount of inertia old space has to keep doing things the old way is remarkable. Delays and cost overruns until it stops being profitable!
Great video! Would have liked a little more clarification about the FAA license but they apparently didn't offer much.
Currently it is a bit of a broad statement but I don't think they would say that if they didn't believe this would end up being the case.
Good lad :P Thanks Marcus! Respect :)
No aurora for us in Michigan on the first night, it was completely overcast. Clear skies on the on night 2 but the aurora was weak then petered out. Also Surfshark has been working well for me for the past 2 years.
