We review Silwy Magnetic Drinkware. The glasses have magnets in the bases, which attach to metalised mats, coasters and metal strips, to prevent movement during travel in a motorhome, caravan, plane, train or boat.

A bit of feedback from Silwy:
The metal strip will soon be shorter (half the size of the current stripe).
Regarding the cups: We are constantly expanding our range and hope that our silwy fans will soon be able to drink from silwy cups.
Also there is a 10% discount code bob10 if you check out the website.

Hi Bob and Jenny, remember seeing this at the NEC last October, they had somehow fitted the strip under (or maybe into?) the table so you couldn't see it but quite how I don't remember and those magnets whilst looking strong do not look strong enough to work through the thickness of a MH table but when I looked at the ones at the NEC I didn't see any pads on the table itself. really good bit of kit and at that time they had various sized adhesive magnets to fit to your own items such as mugs etc

A well meaning thought from me to you guys, especially taking into account your recent near miss collision incident, I will stick to the good old fashioned tye me downs when in transit. However, when you've indulged a we bit the table ones could be useful.

An intriguing idea, but perhaps a little over engineered for storing four glasses,. Replacing breakages is a consideration too. We are boarder line OCD when it comes to rattling locker contents; I made simple cloth glass/cup pouches and plate dividers to eliminate this when we travel. I’m no seamstress and the sewing is (very) clunky in places, but they really do work - our MH friends are convinced there’s a business in the making! You and Jenny really are very good at giving objective, balanced reviews. Nevertheless, taking everything into account, I don’t think we’ll be early adopters of magnetic glasses or limpet coasters!

For the coffee cups I would try to get some small extra strong magnets from EBay and superglue them to the bases and use mat you got with the glasses 😀

I haven't seen the "ouch" price. I'm also not sure about the coasters, if you were to leave them in one place for too long, would they delaminate or leave residue of rubber behind. Similar to a mobile phones grip mat on your/my dashboard.

An interesting but very expensive product Bob, I guess it’s one way to stop glasses rattling while travelling. A better solution for the same money would be a £20 roll of foam sponge from Dunelm with cutouts for the glasses to stop them touching each other, and you’ll still enough change for at least a dozen nice Waterford fine crystal wine glasses. The coasters are a waste of money though, why would anyone need them when parked up - surely the manufacturer is not suggesting that the glasses/coasters would be in use while driving?
