I have been to Whitby just for the day what a amazing place, you never mentioned the famous railway arriving and leaving Whitby. Thank you from New Zealand
Yeah, Whitby is such a wonderful seaside town! Oh yes, the North York Moors railway, we weren't able to fit that into our trip sadly. Good suggestion though! I'd like to spend a full day using one of their hop on hop off style tickets at some point 🙂 We did that on the KWVR and it was great fun!
What a great video for someone looking to come to Whitby. Very informative, and showing off some great places. The road at the side of the steps is called the donkey track, which the donkeys used to use on their way to the beach, and cars have become wedged at the bottom (true story). We also loved the Endeavour pub, for it's atmosphere and great staff. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
oh yes, I have looked up Goathland before actually as a possible place to visit. I think we will make it over there at some point. Thanks for the recommendation!
Whitby looks so gorgeous! Great video with helpful information. I'm heading to the UK on vacation for a week tomorrow and I'll be staying in Whitby. I can't wait to explore this lovely coastal town, eat British fish & chips and take in all the scenery. I imagine it looks as beautiful in winter as it does in summer ⚓⛵🤍💙
Oh lovely, you'll have a great time! There are some beautiful spots around there (I particularly like Robin Hoods Bay) and some very pretty villages inland too. Hope you have a great trip!

@@OurTravelPlace I've just moved up to West Yorkshire from London loving the fresh air just looking for places to go this is one of my favourite places .....

Thank you so much for this video. My friend and I were scheduled to visit the UK last May but of course, the trip was postponed because of COVID-19. Hopefully next year. I've been in love with Whitby since reading the novel Dracula when I was in eighth grade. It looks as if it's a beautiful place in so many ways.
Oh it is beautiful with plenty to see and do, you have made a great choice for your trip! Where else in the UK are you planning to visit? Fingers crossed your trip can go ahead next year!
Excellent video - I agree with the key areas you suggest exploring - I thought I could add a few more to help people who visit this wonderful seaside town. You could have added finding the pirate graves in St Marys graveyard? if you found them of course.😂I have spent my whole live in and around the town, and return regularly - more than once per year, and spend whole weeks there when I can. The unique light you talk about is because the sun rises over the east pier, and sets over the west pier - and the harbour entrance points North. So while the town is on the North East coast, its beach has an interesting run, which means there is always light on the beach from dawn to dusk everyday, and it creates really unique perspectives and looks - more so if you photograph it regularly. It is the only place in the UK where I can order fish and chips and know the quality of what I will get. I have encountered only a small number of f&c places beyond the town in the UK which have maintained the same standard, tradition and quality - trust me they are few and far between, and happy to send you my very small list of the ones I return to beyond the Whitby borders. You could have made more of Justins fudge there is a whole story behind the shop, with a little research to add depth - Justin was a town legend, and sadly passed a few years back, but his apprentice kept the smaller of the two shops going, and continues the vision Justin created. Amazing place, and amazing quality chocolates. And my thank you for ending on Robin Hoods Bay - nothing beats walking down the Cinder Track (could be another gem to find) from Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay, and walking back along the cliff tops on the Cleveland way - It is my favourite walk in the UK. More so if you carry a few cakes and sandwiches from Bothams in Whitby. Enjoy the new year.
Thank you for your comment, there's so much information in there that other viewers could find interesting so hopefully people will spot it! :) I don't believe we have found the pirate graves on any of our trips to Whitby! We will have to look on a future trip. I also didn't realise there was a story behind Justin's fudge shop so will have to google more about it. Any fish and chips recommendations are always welcome! I would love to do the walk from Whitby to RHB at some point. We did the (admittedly much shorter!) walk from Boggle Hole to RHB a few weeks ago, which was lovely, and stayed at the Youth Hostel at Boggle Hole. Great place to stay. Happy New Year!
@@OurTravelPlace Enjoy finding the pirates. A fun vignette to keep you occupied in the grave yard for an hour. Fish and Chips - When you are in Whitby next, try getting your fish and chips in Silver Street (its where the locals go). In Kent - try The Varne near Dungeness, or Jones on Whitstable high street. In Northumberland try Neptunes at Seahouses - probably the best outside Whitby, or Brough Chippy on the A66. If you can handle the 13 mile round walk, The cinder track down to RHB, and back along the cliffs is epic. As an alternative and only if low tide is around the time you arrive in Ravenscar - try RHB down the cinder track to Ravenscar - visit the tea room there if open - then drop down the cliffs to the seal colony, and the follow the beach line back to RHB and come up the ramp on the beach there - thats epic. If the tidy is wrong, miss out the seals, cut through the old alum works and walk back to boggle hole and then along. Another area to see is Saltwick Bay - there are ship wreck pieces if you know where to look, and the tidy is kind - but be wary of where the tide is as many can get stuck and regularly do. Happy New Year.
I do remember another commenter recommending the Silver Street chippy and said the same thing you did. Definitely top of the fish and chips list next time we are in Whitby. That 13 mile walk sounds great! All those miles and the sea air...bet it would feel very rewarding. Would love to do that. Funny you should mention Saltwick Bay and the tide. We did attempt the walk on the trip where we filmed this video but did realise we got the tide wrong and had to make a very quick retreat 😬
@@OurTravelPlace You wont regret Silver street - but I would love to hear your views if you do, and on the long walk too. As an idea - why not take large bothams rolls and cakes, walk to RBH, and do Silver street when you get back. Saltwick Bay - google tide times whitby, I use that to set my walking times. I tend to head down the West pier on to the beaches between Whitby and Saltwick bay two hours before low tide - and then walk around to Saltwick bay - steer clear of the cliffs, Ive seen huge drops when ive done this walk. But you do get to see the wreck of the concrete boat, the SS Rohilla, and if you walk right around the bay to black nab (the single pinacle at the far end of Saltwick bay) here you will find a trawler called the Admiral Von Tromp. An entire disaster on its own. www.flickr.com/photos/daveseargeant/48925802927/in/dateposted-public/ www.flickr.com/photos/daveseargeant/48925802927/in/dateposted-public/ I usually advise walking back along the cliff top to the Whitby Brewery for a well earned pint. Ignore the fossil hunters chipping away at the cliff footings - large land falls are common here, and at RHB. Other than that enjoy.
@@DS-cf1zc "As an idea - why not take large bothams rolls and cakes, walk to RBH, and do Silver street when you get back." - yes, I love this suggestion - any excuse to try plenty of food! :D Great photo, pretty cool to see that on the Saltwick Bay walk. Thanks for the info about tide times, I think we set off a bit late. Itching to get my walking boots back on now with these suggestions! :)
I love exploring with you! Everything looks so beautiful and green. Love the Abby and all those stairs. I definitely would have loved to sit on that bench. and the bird on Capt Cook was priceless with great timing. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place...reminds me a bit of Tallinn, Estonia. The food looks so good! Stay well!
Thank you! Ha yes, there are plenty of seagulls around so I guess it was only a matter of time until one sat on his head 😀 We haven't been to Tallinn but would definitely like to. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this tour of what to do in WHITBY. It is such a stunning place and right along the water which makes it extra cool! Love that you created this Travel Guide with some must do places. Really makes us want to go visit. Definitely a stunning place with the ruins and the museum. Whitby beach looks really nice too but yes, right now is too cold to go swimming! I think the biggest highlight for us would probably going to the restaurant and cafes and checking out the local foods. we LOVE a good Fish and Chips and would love to check out that place you recommended!
Delighted to subscribe to your excellent channel! We're lucky to live approx 30 miles from Whitby and so, over the past 55+ years I've visited at least twice every year. Love the Gothic connection with Bram Stoker (currently listening to the audiobook of 'Something in the Blood' by David J. Skal). Keep up the great work and best wishes for 2021.
Thanks very much, and welcome to the channel! The gothic connection really makes Whitby stand out, it's such a beautiful and interesting seaside town. I can see why you visit so frequently. That audiobook sounds like a great way to get you in the mood for your next trip! As you are 30 miles from Whitby you might also be interested in a video we have on York coming up soon - York is another one of our Yorkshire favourites! 😊
Wonderful guide and showcase of the best of Whitby. Lots of valuable information provided. Ahh... Captain Cook - we were on the big island of Hawaii years ago and snorkeled by the shore where Captain Cook was killed by natives. There is a monument there. Thanks for sharing and have a great day 😀👍
Hey you two! Wow! That view is definitely worth 199 steps! The Abbey is beautiful too... I loved visiting historical places places like this. Owe... I love the short boat ride. Even if it is short... it's only 4 pounds.. so, that's not bad. Oh, I love the lighthouses too! YUM! Fish and chips... it looks delicious! Will definitely have to remember that place. The pie looks delicious! Another great tour... you always create beautiful videos!! Loved it.
Thank you! Yes I agree, it would definitely be a good place for Halloween! They do have ghost walks, although we didn't have the chance to join one this trip
@@OurTravelPlace I would love to do a ghost walk! I actually used to live in a haunted house when I was a child so I got plenty of creepy nights as it is though haha
Whitby looks so beautiful and so historic. So interesting to hear about the connection to "Dracula" and the novel. Captain Cook and the info you give is incredible ad never knew all of this about the area. The food and drink looks awesome and once again the info you give is incredible. Thank you for this and love watching your videos. ONE LOVE

Never knew there were such cool places to visit in the UK! Cant wait to get there one day. What an incredible vessel! What was the price? sorry if you mentioned and we missed. Harbors, piers, cafes and restaurants are all looking awesome
Not sure if you mean the boat trip or the endeavour, but the boat trip was £4 and the endeavour was £5. Whitby is a great place in the UK to go... my favourite English seaside town I've visited so far!
Indeed it was tiring carrying coffins up the 199 steps, you'll notice benches set to the side as you walk up, those are not just there to rest your weary feet, but were in fact placed there to rest the coffins to give the pallbearer's a break on their way to the top...!!
When I saw this I had to click! We have a "Whitby" here in Ontario (the next town over from me) but it is not as scenic or pretty as your Whitby! Thanks for sharing :)
Haha oh really?! I didn't realise there was another Whitby actually until tagging up this video and Whitby Ontario kept popping up! Thanks for watching 🙂
You guys highlighted soo many options! I like that there are roman numerals on the stairs to keep track. The chirping comment about the birds had me laughing. We would definitely want to visit that brewery! Great video 😊
Haha, in my mind seagulls are too loud and abrasive to be described as chirping 😂 Yes, there's plenty to do in Whitby, especially given that it's only small... we didn't even manage to cover everything! Thanks for watching

The Dracula Experience & The Abbey are two things you must do when visiting Whitby especially if you love the story of Dracula. I have done some videos from a recent trip there.
I will be heading too Whitby to Marc Almond country at the end of October. Is there a James Cook/Dracula museum in Whitby. And can you get a regular bus would you know the fare also to Goathland.
Hi there. There is a Captain Cook Memorial Museum, and also the Endeavour Experience. For Dracula I don't know of a museum. There is the Dracula Experience but thats definitely not a museum 😅 Not sure about Goathland I'm afraid as I haven't visited. Hope you enjoy your visit!

An entire disaster on its own.

I usually advise walking back along the cliff top to the Whitby Brewery for a well earned pint.
Great photo, pretty cool to see that on the Saltwick Bay walk. Thanks for the info about tide times, I think we set off a bit late.
Itching to get my walking boots back on now with these suggestions! :)
This looks like it'd be such a wonderful place to visit!
It is! 🙂
They were definitely good fish and chips... there's plenty of it around in Whitby! Lots of other good food choices too 🙂 Thanks for watching!
@@OurTravelPlace No problem! We love anything like that. You should check out our London Trip, we have like so many fish and chips it was crazy.
@@exploreaswego I have actually already watched your London food tour...love a good food video!
Such a cool area! The boat museum was lovely! Food looks 😋 yummy! Love the buildings!
Ha yes, we had a LOT of good food in Whitby! Agree about the buildings, there is a lot of awesome architecture here. Thanks for watching!
Oh guys! I love how much I learn from watching you. Big thumbs up from us. Lots of great ideas in this video. - Jo
Thank you, what a nice comment! 🙂 Have a great weekend!

Absolutely amazing place .. I wish I could go there for next holidays
I'm sure you'll be able to visit soon!
What a wonderful video!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This video really helped us plan our trip to Whitby. We found the boat trip especially useful. Cheers for sharing 🍻
That's great to hear, I'm glas you found it helpful! I hope you had a lovely trip to Whitby (and found a good place for that pint) 🙂
Wonderful guide and showcase of the best of Whitby. Lots of valuable information provided. Ahh... Captain Cook - we were on the big island of Hawaii years ago and snorkeled by the shore where Captain Cook was killed by natives. There is a monument there. Thanks for sharing and have a great day 😀👍
oh interesting, I'll have to google that moment! Thanks for watching 🙂
Loved it.
Thank you! Agree, for £4 it doesn't matter if the boat ride is short, it's worth it! Thank you for watching 🙂
Great job on the narration! The perfect place to visit for Halloween! ;)
No way, that must have been terrifying! (but also kind of cool)
That is a beautiful quaint down. Very cool they have a seaside musium too. LIKE #39 my friends. Very nice. 👍👍👍👍
Yes, the museums we visited were really interesting! Thanks for watching
ONE LOVE
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 😀 Yes, the connections to dracula are really interesting! It's such a great spot to visit. Thanks for watching!
Really interesting video - Whitby looks great! If we make our way up that way, I'll definitely revisit this video for things to do while we're there 😊
Thanks! There's so much to do here, it's really popular for good reason 🙂 Thanks for watching 😊
What a beautiful place 🤩. Great work guys. I loved it 👏
England is on our Bucketlist!! This video will be very useful when we visit. Well done 👍🏻

YEYYYYYYYY coming back to North East ahemmm Middlesbrough utb ! & of course we are visiting whitby cannot wait kelly n andrew from paisley Scotland 🏴
Awesome video! You're very talented! You are very good and have given me a lot of inspiration.
Thank you!
Great video ☺️👍🏻
Definitely adding these to our list when we visit, looking forward to the next video!
Thank you! Glad this helped you with your trip planning 🙂
An excellent review. Thanks☺
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it 😄
Fantastic thank you 😊
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching! 🙂
Absolutely wonderful place! Thanks for the tour. Big Like + full view. Have a wonderful week!
The best chippy in Whitby is literally a minutes walk from rusty shears, silver street 👍 it's where all the locals go
ooo good to know! Next time we visit Whitby we'll get our fish and chips from there 😀
Indeed it was tiring carrying coffins up the 199 steps, you'll notice benches set to the side as you walk up, those are not just there to rest your weary feet, but were in fact placed there to rest the coffins to give the pallbearer's a break on their way to the top...!!
They must have been very welcome! That's interesting, thanks for the extra information 🙂👍
Thanks for watching
nice upload, just great presentation. I hope one day, that i'll visit there , all are very unique , thanks for sharing of it. L 68
Many greetings from Germany!
Thank you! You should visit if you can. Hello to you in Germany!
Another amazing video! That Abbey look so cool and love all of the facts. The beaches were also really pretty - agree it would be a great walk. Robin Hood's Bay was also really cool - will have to check out that video too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, and hope you enjoy the Robin Hood's Bay video! 🙂
What a beautiful place. I want one of those skull mugs! Haha
Haha, not going to lie, I was tempted by those! 😀
This looks like a really fun place to visit. Maybe one day I can see in person 😁
Oh it is great, you should visit when you can! Thanks for watching

Jeeh. I wouldn’t want to be shifting a coffin up to that graveyard. Such a wonderful view for the deceased .lol 🤷♀️
Whitby is on our bucket list of places to visit. It’s incredibly beautiful. And so rich in history.
That caterpillar 😆
Oh my all the food alone is a valid reason to visit Whitby 🤤
🖤
Oh you should definitely visit one day when travel is easier! There's so much to see and do, you could easily spend a few days in the area.
The Dracula Experience & The Abbey are two things you must do when visiting Whitby especially if you love the story of Dracula. I have done some videos from a recent trip there.
0:26 1st step is climbing 199 steps 😆
Aw man I said first up, but your version would have been better... I missed a trick there! 😄

Hello and welcome! 👋
I have come here after reading about it in Stoker's Dracula
I will be heading too Whitby to Marc Almond country at the end of October. Is there a James Cook/Dracula museum in Whitby. And can you get a regular bus would you know the fare also to Goathland.
Hi there. There is a Captain Cook Memorial Museum, and also the Endeavour Experience. For Dracula I don't know of a museum. There is the Dracula Experience but thats definitely not a museum 😅 Not sure about Goathland I'm afraid as I haven't visited. Hope you enjoy your visit!
@@OurTravelPlace we have Dracula stuff in Dublin!

Was it intentional to say St Mary's Church was founded in 1110 at 11.10 am?
Haha, I wish I could say it was but no, that was a fluke 😄 Good spot!
Musste mir das video wegen schule reinziehen lol
U can just climb the wall to get in the Abbey very easy qnd saves you 11 pound
