100 years isn't a long time at all.
Definitely not ancient.
Jujube fruits are called red dates but they are not. The plant is not even related to palm trees. They are just look-a-likes. The texture is different, much firmer, the taste is very different too. The sugar content is lower and the pit is hard to remove. Freshly harvested jujube remind me more on small apples, with a nice mild taste and crunchy texture.
