    50 years ago I grew up on a produce farm in S.W. Michigan. The largest open-air market was in that town. 100 square acres of docks and offices where buyers bought and shipped all the produce. My father started selling there in the early 40s. It's always interesting to me that people in the US say they have just recently started this farm to markek to table concept. B.S., it was going a lot stronger a long time ago. There were restaurant owners from both Detroit and Chicago that came to our farm every year. Somehow Alice Waters gets credit for starting that type of thing. She may have jumped on the band wagon but she had nothing to do with starting it.
