I've been mixing 2 stroke gas since 1980. It kind of helps if the bike's gas tank comes with a measuring cup built into the gas tank cap, like some manufacturers did back in the good old days. It makes life so much easier. These old tank caps do appear at motorcycle swap meets so are worth buying as they'll have the ratio versus volume of fuel marked on them.
Not sure if this has been brought up yet but it's always good to put a little bit of gas in the can and then pour your premix oil in. This will help insure that the oil mixes quickly\ with the gas thats going to be added to the right level.
Little trick, we do this for our boat, lawn equipment , and bikes... buy the oil like he does once, then just refill that little whatchamacall it, the container with whatever oil you like, and you don’t have to worry about measuring.
it’s saber oil it’s recommended to run at that ratio sometimes even 100:1 sometimes very good oil😂 i feel like 32:1 is way to much oil if you just use the right oil you can run your machine lean and it runs amazing
Come on 😯 people. It’s not rocket science. Mix what is recommended in the manual or run 50:1 and be done with it. I have ran 50:1 in leaf blowers, weed eaters, 85 Honda 250 ATC and my current KTM XCW 200 without issue or fouled a plug in 25 years. Don’t over think it. Mix the gas and slap some ass 🤪
Rotate the VP 5 gallon can so the spout is near the top. It can then vent and pour faster and smoothly and not ugga- chugga the fuel all over the place. At $130 ish for a 5 gallon can of MR12 these things matter. :)
That vp gas is expensive as heck though. As someone who can easily push 6-9 gallons in a day id be in for the price of a new top end by the weekend. I just go and get 91 from my shell. Never any issues
Must be that new math that scares everyone....LOL If people avoid 2 strokes because mixing gas is so difficult, what happens when you have to repair/maintain your 4 stroke cams and timing? Thanks Kyle for your hard work and time you put into these videos.
When I had my yz250 I would run 32/1, i would pump 2 gallons of 93 in my can, dump my 16 oz of oil, than pump 2 more gallons, give it a shake and it was ready to go 👍
Kyle your videos are always great. Thanks for all you do for us dirt bike guys and gals. Who ever gives a thumbs down here obviously are people who are against dirt bike riding. Thanks again for the great videos.
If somehow the math is to complicated. Just “forget about the oil” and divide the amount of fuel your going to prepare by the fuel amount of the mixture. So, if your preparing 8 liters of 30 to 1 8/30 = 0.266 liters of oil. Or buy a Beta ...
A US gas station sells gallons. That's why you have to be somewhat intelligent to calculate how much oil to add. Helps to do two gallons at a time for 50:1. Five ounces does two us gallons. Feeling me?
More oil equals less wear and more power due to better ring sealing .What are you trying to accomplish running such high ratios besides premature wear. Do you think Amsoil has magic oil that no one else is able to match. The oil injection on the new tpi bikes mixes at about 80:1 look how thats worked out .
Your right. Try running any other oil brand at 100:1 let me know how that works out, it actually has better protection at 100:1 ratio than other oils running a lower mix ratio at 50:1. Proven facts
I’m not hating on you for making the video at all it’s just sad so many people don’t have any comprehension on how to mix gas most people act like your a mad scientist when they see you dumping premix into your gas can lol
I thought I was the only one who encountered that 5 galllon jug problem.. I have that same plastic race jug and all of my other 5 gal containers can't seem to fill it to the 5 gal mark.. I think it is more than 5 gallons.. If not then it is weird that so many other containers false advertise as having 5gal storage limits..
Nice Video Thank you so much. I was searching for a nice video explaining what the main differences are using Mineral two stroke oil in your premix vs using Synthetic two stroke oil in your premix? Any advice would be appreciated. The riding style I'm doing is just having fun on weekends, nothing serious, if that would have any influence on what oil to use?
yee I shake it side to side and up and down. Every time before I pour it in my bike I just shake it around when I’m walking to my bike too. Never had an issue here I just shake it anyways to be safe. If I don’t feel like shaking I put a half a gallon in the jug, oil in, then the rest of the oil, but I 99% of the time shake it anyways
If we don't ride that often, is it bad to mix 5 gallons of two stroke gas and leave it sitting in the jerry can? If it is I will just get a smaller container...
Do those VP steel containers get re used? What a waste if they don’t. Go buy 91 octane at the pump. VP gas isn’t going to make you faster. Practice does.
A quick google search brought up that 88% of steel is recycled, so no matter where that jug ends up chances are its gonna get recycled. Why do you care what kind of gas the guy buys? Maybe he doesn't want ethanol in his gas, maybe he doesn't trust the quality of his local gas station? You know it all youtube commentators are getting on my last nerve.
T-4 is for four strokes it’s unleaded gas you want to use leaded gas for 2-strokes (vp110 or c12 )If your gonna run race gas run the stuff that is good for your engine.
The founder of VP race fuels (whom I know personally and have ridden with once) suggested this gas for my application. Pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.
Dino testing doesn’t lie vp110 and c12 have been the 2-stroke staple for decades, If your bone stock t-4 is fine. Just being off the ethanol is a plus really.
im wondering wich mix ratio you will use in your cr250r, im using 32:1 as the Honda manual says, with Motul 800, some of my friends told me its way too rich and i should use 50:1 as specified in the Motul specs.
cadwarrior It’s hard not to go wrong with 50:1 in any 2 stroke. I have ran Motul 710 in my KTM 200 for years without issue. I have ran Motul 800 before and it does seem more for high power motocross application. I ride single track woods and did notice more spooge than normal out the pipe with the 800. Like it did not burn off at lower rpm. Save money and go with 710 and 50:1 will be fine.
cadwarrior sure use at 50:1 and then next time around go with 710 at 50:1 and save a few $$ all modern pre mix that you buy at cycle shops are good IMO 👍🏻
cadwarrior 32:1 is excessive for a 250 imo, even if you're doing motocross and going WOT all day long, 40:1 should be fine. Pretty much everyone I know with 125s runs less oil than that and they're fine.
Hey Kyle - Question for ya! I am pretty paranoid about always running fresh gas in my 300. Ill mix whats only really necessary for a ride (1-3 gallons) to make sure I'm always running the freshest gas possible through my bike. I'd prefer to not worry about it however and mix 5 gallons at a time to just have it on hand. How long is it okay to have gas sit before it starts to break down? Do you ever worry about this or follow this philosophy? Thanks!! Chad
I wouldn't keep 2 stroke gas that is already mixed for more than 4-5 months at a time. Maybe more if it is in a conditioned space and has a stabilizing product added to the mix.
How do you keep it from stinking ? I mixed some for a chain saw and when hauling in my van it stunk up the interior big time . I was wondering if hauling around dirt bikes in the back of a van smells it up? Thanks
Most folks with any common sense put a gallon or two of fuel in the can before the oil, then shake the piss outta it. Then finish adding fuel. You left all your oil in bottom of tank and now you will have to shake a full 5 gl to get it mixed. And Joe N is also correct.
KTM 250 sx Manuel states 60:1 mix. If you use a different oil and say 40:1 different oil as you stated mix it does not run correct per jetting specs. I tried this theory and went back to a 60:1 mix and ran better like it should. So please elaborate. Thanks
just picked up my YZ250x dealer said it has motul 40:1 in it at the moment for first start/ break in, is this okay? also what should I run it at after the break in ?

Short answer is yes. In the vid, he is using T4 which I would not classify as a race gas. Call it a really consistent non ethanol pump. There are various race gas formulations that do make more power. My Triumph 675 road racing bike, makes low 120rwhp on non ethanol pump. With MR12 and with the MR12 mapping it makes 131-132 rwhp, which is pretty common for those bikes in that state of tune. 5 gallons gets me a practice (15 min-ish) and two sprint races 8 laps each, or about 40 miles total with maybe a little less than a gallon left over. vpracingfuels.com/master-fuel-table/ with a 250 F I'd look at U4 or one of the MR fuels. All anyone needs to know about mixing gas is there is 128 oz of gas in a gallon. Has our general education system become so bad that people can't figure a basic mix ratio based on that number. Everyone has a calculator on there phone. Maybe it's the millennials that just need reassurance. As for the oil. Run what you want. Most people don't keep a bike long enough to know what the effects of running a certain oil are going to be. Kyle doesn't know! He ain't going to keep a bike 400 hours and do a full teardown and inspection himself. He's just speculating based on guys comments on KTMTalk and the recommendation of Jeff Slavens. LOL!! Even Kelsey Manning of RK Tek recommends the complete opposite of Kyle. Mineral Oil!!!! These oil videos make my head want to explode!!!
Another tip is to pour some gas into the oil container or mixing cup after you have dumped it in the just in order to get all the oil out
Joe Nardozza I was thinking the same thing lol
Joe Nardozza im doing this!
And put some gas in before your pour the oil! ;). Then have a priest bless it....
@Joe Nardozza absolutely, never leave a drop behind!.
if you're smart enough to premix without this dumbass video

I was taught to mix a gallon at a time but as I’ve gotten older I mix 5 , if I make a mistake on amounts it could happen five different times.
I used to be into Nitro R/C and I also used nitro fuel by VP racing. Good stuff
This vid is great info for Millennials! It reassures them from the last mixing video you made.
Ya no shit its not rocket science
If I’m going to spend thousands on something I’m going to take as much precaution as I can lol
You had some really strange, distorted audio at points of this video. 1:40 is a good marker to hear it.
Sounds like 2 mics a split second apart to me.
You should see the interview with Graham Jarvis where he talks about how he mixed weed whacker and chainsaw 2 stroke mix in his bikes for 15 years.
as long as it’s getting lube bro
I just go to the gas pump, pump 5L of gas, pour 100ml of oil (50:1) straight in the tank, shake the bike for a little bit and then ride off!
50 to 1 is sketchy
I run 32 1
And for races I run it a little richer at 40 1, 50 to one would be sketchy af

i run 44:1 in my KDX220R,it still seems way too rich, any reccomendations?
Yes, cut it back?
Looking forward to KTM TPI - no more mixing.
You put the lime in the coke and yo......... Wait wrong video 😬
Or you could have just dumped he oil on the vp can...
Wes Hagler Yes the education system is screwed. You've seen common core math. Nuf said.
education system? hahah says the guy who doesn’t know the difference between there and THEIR phones.
Great video!!!
Scared about mixing gas lol 😂
If that gas wasn’t 5 gallons and you put enough oil for five gallons is your oil to rich?
Yeah well, when I put water at the market for 5 Gallon. They never give me the right amount. It's always... A little over 4. hahahaha
