As a middle aged bloke I’d completely dismissed The 1975 as being shite for years despite never really having heard them. I’m 44. I’m allowed to do shit like that while grumbling under my breath. Then I saw them play this on Later with Jools Holland. One deep dive into all their stuff later and I think Matty Healy is a fucking genius and they’re one of the best and most original bands on the planet. Lesson learned.

Everyone has polarizing opinions about the 1975 but the reason they continue to be my favorite band is because they operate on a higher frequency than a lot of other artists. Each and every time they never fell to bring a studio song to life in the live version. The vibrations they emit paired with sweet harmonies and melodies are simply top tier. I will forever love this band!!!!! 💗💗

I can smell Jack's influence and its great. The sound engineering on these recordings from the lounge are unbelievable and in my opinion even better than the official recordings.
They're a great band man and I'm a huge fan but lets pump the breaks, haha. All for the love and recognition but they stay in major penatonic scales and rarely venture out of that for the last decade, decade and a half. Over 5 albums. Matty said it himself in an interview that he can barely play guitar and venture outside that area... and i watched his hands... he plays C, G, and Am this whole song... not terribly impressive! I understand they have backing musicians but even with their beginning songs on the self titled album... he didn't play much and was boringly rhythm. I know he sings and it can be hard to do it all, but still... Credit where credit is due, though. If they wrote a bomb ass blues song or part of an album or ventured outside bedroom pop id say man they're actually spectacularly good and versatile, but all they serve is making niche music for this sort of small area of sound. Still one of the best in there area but... Best ever? Best band ever? That takes knowledge and breadth, and frankly kid, they just haven't hit that yet. George might be there but as a whole they aren't. Hate to break it to ya. Still have lots of love and I'm seeing them in 3 days but your statement is just a little... American? Saying "AMAZING, BEST EVER" to stuff that just devalues the statement and words.
