Just got me one finally, the large ones were 19.99 at Green Acres Nursery but I found a nice large overgrown out of its small pot at Walmart for 2.84 so I brought it home and put it in a nice large pot, I can’t wait til it gets huge! I’ll be patient, thank you 🙏
It'll grow faster than u think if u give it lots of sun and water as soon as its ok to. Also dilute fertilizer to 1/3 strength and give it about once a month and it'll take off! I have 3 and they're getting huge!!
I have 3 and inatead of wearing gloves I wrap several layers of very thick plastic or material around mine to handle them. I'm proud to say they r growing quite well and getting much bigger than I had thought 😀
Ok care for your barrel cactus, don't let it get frost damaged. Plant it somewhere sunny ( if that's what it was used to ) And pick it up by the pot... ( duh! ) .... oh! And try not to fall on a bunch of them... Thanks for the advice 😕
Definitely one of the most well protected cactus with its spikes! They are super strong and deadly! If anyone reads my comment be careful with these as they are heavy & spikey 🌵
If you bought them from a green house with filtered light or inside a store you might want to have an adjustment period to get them used to the full sun. For example have them in full morning sun for an hour for a week and ramp up intensity as necessary. If you can find out how many hours of sun the different parts of your residence get on a normal day that will help finding a good spot for it as well. Best of luck
@@lucaskey4065 thanks for the tips, i've even had mine shrivel from light through a pstic clear greenhouse wall; seems like they really enjoy filtered light. I've NEVER had one NOT get shriveled after putting it outside, even gradually
Thank you for the info! Also, if I cut a golden barrel cactus about that same size in the video will it shoot out pups? And can the top cut part root well as well? Thanks!!
It is probably the best houseplant I've got. Beautiful, original and demanding hardly any care.
