I am reading this book now. It is excellent. Victor Davis Hanson has expertly mapped our recent political history, describing the important details and events leading up to Trump’s first Presidential victory and first few years of his first term. I feel I am getting a trustworthy education otherwise lacking in the media complex of our time. Hanson brings us up to speed in his new introduction for the latest edition, through events just before the first assassination attempt of Donald Trump. Events move so quickly in our day and age. I would welcome another updated edition someday, that completes the journey of Trump’s reelection and subsequent second term, and the changes in our country’s political climate that result post-2028. I recommend this book highly for Hanson’s great insight and enjoyable writing style.
One of the first things Trump did as President was tell Boeing that 5 billion was too much to pay for 2 planes (Airforce One and backup) and to give him a price that began with a 3 (which they did) .. Why did he do that? He could have just signed the 5 billion check with no political down side and would have helped gained favor and made friends . But instead he was looking out for the people and doing the right thing with their money. This was a real big deal for me because I wasn't sure about the guy. I think right then and there they knew that he was going to be an existential threat to those folks who relied on the wasteful and unnecessary spendng ot the federal government and that they would have to take him down. In my mind, events since then only verified this. I'm still worried that one way or the other he won't be permitted to become president again. My two cents anyway.

In 1776, when the United States declared their independence, the standard form of government in Europe was Royalty, back up and supported by royal court followers and bureaucrats. The Royalty, and many of the royal court officials, were often related to one another, and had a vested interest in keeping themselves in power, and the peasant class under control. When the United States adopted and ratified the U.S. Constitution, it went against the then normal form of peasants and the working class being ruled over by an all powerful royal elite. Instead "We The People" would govern ourselves. Unfortunately, over the last some 250 years, we've sadly devolved into a modern form of the past royalty. The modern "royalty" is the self appointed elite class of lifelong career politicians, supported by a network of donors, news media, and bureaucrats. They see themselves as having some sort of divine right or destiny to rule over we peasants or " deplorables", who they see as being too uneducated or unsophisticated to govern ourselves or to know what's best for us. That's why they hate Donald Trump with such a passion. He's not part of their royal club of elite career politicians, and as such, they see him as a heretic who needs to be brought down, and figuratively "burned at the stake" if need be.

You can watch the Rona Barrett interview circa 1981 and soon see The Apprentice bio-movie. The writers went deep with their fact checks. They welcome Trump suing. He tried to block its release. They loved it in Cannes. Watch the trailer at the very least if you like to be informed with all sides of the political spectrum.
He’s a businessman, not a politician, and he genuinely loves our country and cares about the people - all Americans. That makes him well suited to lead this nation, and he can be as blunt as he finds it necessary, imo. Sometimes he should curb himself, rein in a bit, especially when it’s necessary to get voters in swing states. But his bluntness lets me know that I can trust him to lead our country. He had nothing to hide unlike most politicians, especially this administration.
Was Jimmy Carter also treated in this way by the establishment - but in a low key way? I’m not a Carter apologist, just reflecting on outsiders who struggled to work in Washington.
Jimmy is my closest relative of all 46 presidents. I have two presidents who are in the great (a few times) grandfather pedigree. He has good points as a humanitarian.
