Each video we see on the Lotus I fall more and more in love with it. I've already been a Lotus fan but there aren't many mainstream videos on them so it's super rare to see... I seriously couldn't be happier with your choice for a new car to get Moog. Absolutely knocked it out of the park and while i'm excited to see Marty's new ride, I doubt it can top the Lotus!
I think the Exige may be my favorite of any car they've ever made. Still an absolutely tiny, lightweight car but with more power compared to most trims of the Elise. Plus, it looks amazing. I'd love to see someone mod the crap out of one to add in a bunch of luxury car features. You can actually add things like lane sensing, parking sensors, adaptive cruise (if you've got drive-by-wire and the appropriate sensors), etc. New luxury interior features, etc. Basically make it into the luxury car it could have been while adding as little weight as possible and still improving driving characteristics. I wonder if getting a custom molded intake scoop with an integrated filter chamber would improve anything. Same with increasing the diameter of the intake pipe and the diameter of the plenum. I guess without extensive porting and port enlargement+knife-edge polishing, it probably doesn't matter all that much. Plus, you'd probably need to change out the supercharger for one with a higher gearing and larger scroll with a more efficient turbine. But, then again, this car isn't the type that benefits tremendously from having ALL THE POWER. It's meant to be a handling monster, so putting too much power through the rear wheels just makes drivability challenging. The same is true for other ultralights like the MX-5. Put much more than 350HP in the thing without significant improvements to tire width or compound and you're just in for a bad time as it spins out or slithers off the track and into the scrub.
My favorite car that I owned way back in 1988 was a Toyota Corolla FX16. That car was very underestimated at the time. Now my favorite cars are my Lotus and my MX5. This lotus series was awesome.
"DIN" basically means "Deutsches Institut für Normung" - in english: "German institute for Standards" - because we are german - we have to have a Standard (DIN) for everything :D
Learned something new today, thanks! I always thought it was “Deutsche Industrienorm” (German Industrial Norm), which made saying “DIN-Norm” somewhat repetitive.

This car is so epic, really has me the most hyped I've been for a while about one of your cars.
Totally agree.... I've always loved the Lotus Exige.
⭕🟥
"What's a chip butty?"
"It's a butty with chips in it."
Thankyou Marty, that just made my day.
Still quietly chuckling to myself.
I hope they know it's basically a chip sandwich
He's not wrong!
Should be a chip muffin
@@davehughes6501 Why would it be a muffin, when it uses either a bap or just regular bread?
This is my favorite episode so far! Seeing how happy you guys are with that car is awesome.
The pure joy on Marty's face in that tunnel run is adorable haha :D
My favorite car that I owned way back in 1988 was a Toyota Corolla FX16. That car was very underestimated at the time. Now my favorite cars are my Lotus and my MX5. This lotus series was awesome.
"DIN" basically means "Deutsches Institut für Normung" - in english: "German institute for Standards" - because we are german - we have to have a Standard (DIN) for everything :D
Learned something new today, thanks! I always thought it was “Deutsche Industrienorm” (German Industrial Norm), which made saying “DIN-Norm” somewhat repetitive.
It's not because you are german. There are many standards and DIN is just one of them.
@@Matthijs3476 In Nederland is het wel zo, een "NEN-Norm" is dus een "NEderlandse Norm-Norm" ;)
@@Matthijs3476 cheer up
Someone said once it stands for "Das Ist Norm" - "This is the Standard". And I think as a german its very appropriate
I know everyone who is watching this video has a big smile when they drive through the tunnel.
100% one of the best projects yet!
Reading this with a smile one my face because they’re going through the tunnel
Got a 2000 Volkswagen, still got the original battery, somehow its survived 20 years worth of canadian winter cold starts, helps that those tdis will start without glow plugs all the way down to about -15°C
Lotus: puts blankets over the body to not scratch the paint
MCM: 9:46
I think i got a panic attack
Same lol. Cringing every time I saw it in shot. Especially when Marty moved it with his elbow whilst getting the battery out lol
They were just keeping it real
Yeah that. Stop doing that guys.
Fibreglass paint is extremely soft due to the weakmakers inside it, so it remains flexible.
It scratches just by looking at it. Please use blankets.
They are far too used to working on literal trash, they're gonna be buffing this with urine on a brillo pad before you know it.
I've found my people
"a different kind of everything" talking about new Marty's car.
Surely they're talking about a rotary? RX7 ??? I bloody hope so.
Yes, please!
Would be nice to have a blue sa rx7 ?!
that would be rad.
If Marty gets an RX7, he wins automatically
@@GrantMC2 I'm an rx7 lover (and owner) but that Exige has made all kinds of goo coming out of me
Good lads cleaning the Air flow meter, the amount of mechanics that I’ve talked to that didn’t know that was a serviceable item and should be cleaned every service is astounding.
Got excited when Marty said "accord Euro R" cuz I have an Acura TSX in Canada which is just a LHD Honda accord Euro and I wish I could have a real euro R. love the vids guys!
That sound in the tunnel with the supercharger, just makes me smile a lot🙂
He says "im used to buying Nissan's that smell like bong smoke" I have kept a less than 1000$ car in my driveway for 8 years now just to smoke in in the winter LOL.
6:19 He said it! Yes. You can stay true to your roots while having a mad track nuttermobile. :)
The supercharged engine is available in the Corolla. In the Uk we have the Corolla t sport and the Corolla compressor.
Yeah, Moog acts all surprised that a Corolla has a good engine...
I guess he doesn't know that the 20v 4A-GE (Silvertop and Blacktop) came in FWD Corollas (AE101 and AE111).
Martin is like an excited kid going to disneyland going through that tunnel
How cool is it that lotus actually got in touch with you to tell you the history of the car British engineering at its best 👍🏻
Black is good but Uncle Iroh knows the white lotus is the way to go

"This mad MR2" 😂😂😂
K swap MR2 🤭🤭🤭🤭
Here in the US you CAN get track insurance. If you write off your car they'll replace it at agreed value usually. For a 2 day event with an agreed value of $25,000 USD I pay about $150 for full coverage.
Man, this is soo nuts. Even i haven't seen one of these in years here in the UK, then again I don't live near London 😂 Keep up the good work, I wanna see this car in many videos
i see these all the time in Herefordshire
Amazing to see you guys working on a supercar!
I've watched this episode like 6 times already. one of my favorite recent videos you guys have made. I love the driving shots, supercharger winning, the music. Awesome video guys. Also really happy for you guys to be able to try something a little more special than like you said Nissan's that smell like bong smoke. Hopefully some day I can follow with something special too.
Man MCM having a Lotus is like youtube dream come true. So excited for every video. Also i cant believe you put your sockets on the bare paint when changing the battery 😳 i wouldnt even do that on my shitbox nugget 😂
Refreshed my browser and a new MCM video was posted 4 minutes ago. Pull me in!
Stoked to see what you do with this. The 2zz-ge responds really well with head porting too.
Should we not have stated this series with Marty's car as Marty's car always takes twice as long as yours to sort out. 🤭🤭
Lotus shop: protects paint with blankets
MCM shop: protects paint with socket sets
😬
Seeing how poorly they treat the cars' paints always grinds my gears.
I've come back 4 times to this video to listen to that whine...it's beautiful. I didnt realize I needed a supercharger until this videp
That's pretty cool moog,,,your reg plate reads exactly how ours did in the seventies mate.
Hello from England 🇬🇧 😀
In the state of NSW where MCM lives we can also get a Euro/British-sized number plate with black background and silver lettering to enhance that British classic car look (correct me if I'm wrong but I think for classic cars in the UK you don't need to have the standard white front and yellow back plate?). But on a Lotus you'd want the smallest possible plates and that's what Moog's car has.
🅰️🍒😡
@@Roodosutaa cars dated before 1979 I think are allowed to have those black and silver plates
@@implodingbaby no mate we can't use the black and silver plates unless the car is from the period of original use now. I think that it is pre 71. 👍🇬🇧

Once you’ve finished modifying the Lotus you should put it up against a similar price BRZ on the track. To see if upgrading to the lotus was better or if you should have gone all out on the BRZ!!
Like this so they can see!!
A stripped out BRZ would still weigh loads more?
@@SimonLeeds It would weigh more for sure, but a BRZ with equivalent Exige money spent on it would also make more power than the lotus

Smart marketing from Lotus to get involved, the reach of MCM is far wider than anything they could achieve to get to aspiring car owners.
