I bought this lens with my Z50ii and I love it. Unbelievable quality and build for the price. I have loved using it for indoor candid portraits. It reminds me of shooting the 105mm f2.5 so long ago. It feels great on the Z50ii. I would not have considered 33rd party in the past, but the price and results has me looking at them even more.
I’ve used a few TTArtisan lenses on my X2D (90mm 1.25 & 50mm 0.95) and R6 MKII (100mm 2.8 macro), and they’re extremely competent. And incredibly good value. I’ve also used Voigtlander’s 50mm 2.0 VM APO and 21mm 1.4 VM lenses on the X2D, and they’re stunning.
I use two Z50's and a Z30... I had been wanting a lens that would give me a 100mm equivalent on my APS-c bodies. I had almost given up, then the TT75mm came along and it is wonderful! I have owned many camera brands but I have found no matter what brand I put on my Z system they are sharp! Something about this mount, I don't know but I am very happy with the TT75. I have all the Nikon APS-c lenses as well as the Viltrox 56mm and the Yongnuo 50mm... I just am happy with everything the Z system gives me. (side note I do portraits and model work) Thanks for another great video!
I have a Z6 and several Nikon lenses including the 105mm MC, 24-120 f4 and 14-30mm f4. I am interested in expanding my lens collection to have a couple of walk around lenses and am looking at this lens as well as the Viltrox 28mm f1.8. They look to perform very well at a more affordable price point.
Regarding your question regarding using third party lenses, my answer is a resounding yes. CUrrently in addition to the TTArtisan 75mm f2 in my bag, I have three Viltrox lenses (a 28mm 1.8 FF, and the 35mm and 56mm 1.7 air lenses). Once upon a time I used a Tamron 90mm macro and a Vivitar 200mm (pre-digital, when I was using a Canon A1) and later, after going Nikon and digital, I had a Tokina 90mm macro, a Sigma 8-16mm Ultra Wide zoom, and one of my favorite lenses of all time was the Sigma 18-35 1.8. All of these performed exceptionally well for me, and I never felt I was missing out by not using the manufacturer's lenses in thosse ranges IF they even had them.
Very pleased with this lens. I hope TTArtisan releases more primes like this for using on the Zf Finally had a sunny day to test this lens for infrared (780nm filter) on my Z5 and so far, it looks like it might be good for that also.
I have the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 Pro. It’s an APS-C lens, but on my Z9 I’m left with 19.4mp which is plenty for me. It’s a really good lens when I want to AF in near darkness, which is my main reason for getting it. I also have the 7Artisans 10mm f/2.8 fill-frame fish eye. It’s all manual non-CPU. At 10mm you don’t really need AF. It’s a niche lens for sure. I’m seriously considering parting ways with my Z 85/1.8 S to get the new Sirui 85/1.4 Aurora. I tend to do my serious portrait work with my 70-200/2.8 anyway, but the character of that f/1.4 seems interesting. I’m also looking to exchange my Z 20mm f/1.8 S for the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8. This is primarily a lens for Milky Way and Nightscapes, which is something I maybe do once or twice a year. I’m also looking at the Artra Labs NoNikkor f/1.2 Nocty for my Zf in cases I get struck by nostalgia. Beyond that I’m mostly a Nikon glass only a photographer. My guiding principle is to use first-party lenses when they are available and use third-party lenses to fill gaps and niches.
I bought a copy of the TTArtisan 75mm f2 and have been using it with my Z50ii. It works great. As you noted it is sharp wide open and produces highly croppable images. On the DX factor body, it has an effectove FOV equivalent to a 112mm lens. My ONLY complaint about the lens is that the aperture dial doesn't lock on the A setting. I had a couple of experiences of looking through the viewfinder tosee a dark image and realizing that the dial had shifted to a nunmbered manual aperture setting after being bumped by my clumsy fingers. Since I almost never use the aperture dial (prefering to adjust that setting with my camera dial) I am going to test the lens this coming week with [shock! don't hate me!] a bit of tape applied to the lens barrel. For $200, this is a great addition to my DX kit, and I may use it with my Z5 full frame kit as well. :-)
Great review Leigh!! I definitely use 3rd party lenses: Voigtlander in M and XF mount and Sigma in L-Mount. I had the TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 in XF mount, although I sold it along with the Fujifilm 27mm f/2.8 once I had the stellar Voigtlander 27mm f/2.0 in XF mount. The TTArtisan was as good as the Fujifilm 27mm, but not as good as the Voigtlander 🙂
Have you used it on the Z50ii yet? I tried two copies of the TTArtisan 27mm AF neither of them were recognised by the camera, they were completely incompatible. Which was a shame because it's a nice compact lens.
I've used a couple Viltrox lenses on the Z50II with no issues and this 75mm lens was recognized by the Z6III. It looks like their 27mm for Z hasn't been updated since December of 2023, but if you haven't already updated it, try that out.
I have a Tamron which works perfectly. Both the TTArtisan 27mm lenses have been returned and I got refunded. I think TTArtisan need to update their lens firmware to work on the Z50ii, I would be interested to know if your 75mm TTArtisan works on the Z50ii

Using some tape is a great idea! If you use gaffer’s tape, it won’t leave any residue. :)

Your portraits are way better and beautiful than the monkey.
