This knife is a giant slab of steel with a very sharp edge. Knowing the previous results from the El Chete we put it up against a strong opponent.. The Fallkniven Modern Bowie! Hey DBK. Can you please do a review of the TOOPS Silent Hero? I think it is one of, if not the best all-around knife that TOPS makes. I want one and I love it. The sheath is not very good, but I got an aftermarket one.
Do a test on the glock Fieldmesser and for a punishment food look into 100 year eggs, its a chinese black rotten egg essentially
GREAT VID BOYS ! MY FAVORITE SO FAR.
IF YOU 2 MADE A "BUDDY COP" MOVIE ...IT WOULD BE THE BEST
SORRY MIK,BUT..MAARTEN IS BUSHCRAFT BOY !
SEMPER FI

YOU HAVE NO TASTED #2 AND 3 WORST FOODS....NOW U NEED TO TRY #1
@@wild_goose_0285 I have a Tops Silent Hero. I wasnt thrilled with the Rocky Mtn Tread handles so I ordered their substitute smooth ones. Their even worse! To thin and narrow. So I put the RMT ones back on and wrapped them with Wilson grip tape. Then had a local Kydexer make a sheath to fit the wrapped handle. It is a great all round knife (camp bushcraft survival combat) :)
@@figtreeprophecy That's interesting. I personally have no problem with the Rocky Mountain tread handles. I did a little bit of sanding to smooth out some of the edges and they've been fine sense. I spent a fair bit of money on an aftermarket sheath by Yellowhawk custom Kydex. I seriously suggest looking him up.
4:25- “That’s bone juice, and it came on my face!” You seem very happy about that Maarten.
That's what she said
bone juice, not boner juice
...he's just curious!
Please do more TOPS knives. I really like the company so far, and I want to see someone beat the shit out of their gear. Real shame that you guys had problems with the chete at first but constructive criticism is required for improvement. I hope TOPS sees this vid
storm vector vs el mechete?? yes please
I've got the TOPS B.O.B., it's a great bushcraft knife. I love it.
joe x beats the shit out of their stuff
Lmao the sacrifices you guys make for the knife community is bar none the very best!
YESSS THANK YOU DBK
Y’all make my day so much better!
"Some people regard the durian as having a pleasantly sweet fragrance, whereas others find the aroma overpowering and unpleasant. The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as rotten onions, turpentine, and raw sewage. The persistence of its odour, which may linger for several days, led certain hotels and public transportation services in Southeast Asia to ban the fruit."
Lol it’s not allowed within 2 blocks of hotels… it’s not a good smell…
@@zeuqramjj2002it's really not that bad of a smell
first time I smelled durian, I had genuinely thought there was a gas leak in the building. however after getting used to durian, I crave it. an acquired taste, however a special treat for those in the know.
LoL. As a Swede married to a Thai, surströmming and durian is on the menu every day.
Good episode boys!
which is more pungent? I heard there is an icelandic equivalent to surstroming that is even more rancid.
@@michaelcandido2824
Suströmming had got an extremely strong (bad if you like) smell, but the taste is mostly a salty, umami and ”fermented” taste. Delicious if you can get past the exteriors.
Durian is very different and a lot has to do with level of ripeness. Much like an avocado in texture, and the taste goes from unripe fresh banana like taste, to a mushier softer texture which has a more mature taste and smell.
Personally I like it, but I can’t eat to much of it. After a few bites, it’s like when you had to much pizza. You know you like it, but you just can’t stand it at the moment.
I’ve heard if the Icelandic one, a shark I think. Never tried it.
@@jez76 The way you described the flavor,
That reminds me of how the Romans described the flavor of Garum

this was a glorious video and deserves a billion views
The Fallkniven Modern Bowie is the coolest of the three..👍
Good to see some WorkSharp Ken Onion Blade Grinder usage!! Love that thing - use it more often than not to strop with these days using BRK compound on the stropping belts!
I’m really enjoying these time trials - keep up the good work chaps!
This competition was far better than any event that I watched in the recent Olympics.
Lol curling should not be a sport
Please try the new TBS grizzly, a 6mm thick beast! Thanks you're amazing guys!
I love TBS knives and they are so much better than they used to be!!!!
I was really hoping you would chop some stuff in this video. So, I’m not disappointed.
I like to see a test of best chopper between the Tops Vector and the Tops El Chete.
+1
I would also like to see a test of the Tops silent hero as someone else asked, much appreciative , thanks for you’re awesome videos during this covid period,
Holy Moly the TOPS EL CHETE looks really cool.
Wow best friend eats it to show he cares .. good job
I have one of these Tops choppers - great knife. But, then I asked?... what about a vintage meat cleaver. Similar in design. I purchased several 7"/8", even a new stainless Dexter-Russel 8". They are fantastic camp Tools. I sold my hatchets. I now think the best camp tool is a vintage meat cleaver. Way easier to pack, The DR's are around $50 US to $75 US. The Vintage ones are fantastic too.
Spot on guys, overheating on the edge I reckon!
Im glad to see you took the safety tips from the last obstacle run ;) This looks much better (Y)
Wtf , omg , I was on the edge of my seat , fantastic watching well done guys.
2:44 has me dying
Just the way he reacts like
“WHOO! THAT ONE STUNG A LIL BIT!”
I ate Durian a lot when I was a kid. At least they put sugar in the Durian; and makes it palitable
You guys are def the best knifehead duo !!! ✌
Now that's a funny commercial.
Great video. Still waiting on my Storm Vector to ship - close to 4 months on back order so far.
This was a great episode. Thank you!
Best manscaped commercial ever!!!
4:59 Maybe striking with the center of percussion would be more efficient?
YOU HAVE a hypnotic cockney/Dutch way of making me buy knives I dont need.. like this one.
the ad was fucking brilliant
hahah thanks a lot. we try to make them enjoyable to watch :)
@@DutchBushcraftKnives You guys make it so entertaining. We want to watch the ad. Technically all your content is ads.
unban me
"it's shit. I was jsut eating shit wasn't I?"
lmao
This was even better than the fish from last week! Excellent as usual
love how the sub 100$ skrama beats all these expensive knives
now I want a knive with the skrama design and more high end steel
I use my Silky NATA 240 dual grind for chopping. It has a sks 45 jis steel, i don't know what they done with the steel, but after a year of abuse it is still sharp. For 95€ it is totally worth it 👍
I agree! I've been waiting for the backordered El Chete for over a year and picked up a Silky Nata 9.5" instead and I'm so glad I did! I'll never buy a Topps product. They don't care about their customers and the El Chete is hype. Do yourself a favor and get a $100 Silky Nata or anything else but the rip off, overpriced, overhyped $300 El Chete.
1st, MUCH LOVE, and totally enjoy you two and your videos.
that said, the stoking of fire is that one spot where time must be sacrificed; it's just too easy to smother a fire when it most needs oxygen.
Axes well I have many.. estwing lasts generations, so I'd have a two knives a folding saw a multi tool. That's my choice. Got a cpm3v kephart from broc I love it
My El Chete factory edge was micro chipping with normal wood processing as well. Put a convex edge on it, and I haven't had an issue since
Mine, too. But only a very tiny bit. It happend with rather soft birchwood, but the branches are of course harder. And I cut a lot of branches of a big trunk.
👍. Pretty good pickup on the edge of the brand new knife. Pretty poor on top’s be half considering the price.
Good chopper to try silky nata.
Love how wholesome and educational your videos are. Great friendship
Thank you so much for your kind words Thomas!
you guys crack me up with the fun you have, doing what you do - great stuff - :)
Heyyy MARTIN! What type of paints are those??? Love the video keep up the work guys I’m always spreading the DBK word around YT!
I am considering buying 119 Buck 6 in. CPM S 35 VN. If you would test it as you test knives. Anxious for the demonstration. Sheath knife.
4:25- “That’s bone juice, and it came on my face!” Martin is the Ele Chete Bukake master
Get your hands on an rmj tactical wyvern in cpm 3v.
It's expensive but it can chop all day
I like Tops, have the Silent Hero. Wish they would offer some higher end steels. Everything is 1095.
Try a "Glock Field Knife" you'll hate it, but it is very popular!
the taste test was priceless!
How about you guys review the Bark River Bushcraft 2
My Andy Tran field knife chipped on bone too. Bone is some serious chit. I cleaned it up with a work sharp and became a better knife as a result. It's gone now. I love tops.
hey i too am a huge falkniven fan ! serious question why havent you done a review of the falkniven kolt knife ;,( lol i have one in cos lam and would love to know your input on it !!!!
I have some knives where the exposed tang at the bottom of the handle is a much better fire steel scraper than the spine. Maybe check it out on the El Chete.
Got to get a Hiben, the first to copy that design. Well, at least, the Hiben looks so Intimidating!
I was always interested in that chopper but couldn't afford it. I just don't have the budget for it. Nice to see you guys chop the crap out of stuff with it though!
Fantastic guys love these competitions
Why didnt you do the destruction test like you did with the jaakaripuukko? I have a feeling that it wouldn't hold up as well.
These videos are turning into Skrama advertisements until a knife can match it's score 😂
Another great video guys, keep it up. You should realy check some Work Tuff Gear stuff:Nomad camp knife, Siddha, Puzon wilderness bowey, C. U. M. A. King destracto. Also some of Condor K&T stuff:Woodbuster, mini Duku, bushcraft parang, eko parang, pack golok...
This video is great thank y'all
So is the stom vector or the el Chete better?
Suggestion for next week:work tuff gear nomad camp knife
Awesome episode guys
These guys could reboot forged in fire bring much needed new challenges and comic relief
what is your small grinder ? it looks intersting
Good entertaining video again guys! Thank you. 👍😁
tops, you gotta get your employees to keep a steady plunge line and make sure the apex of the bevel is correct.
Wow I thought you guys already reviewed this one, it's been out awhile but glad ya did, it's a cool tool and it is a beast
I’d love to see all your videos on your website. No more ads interrupting your videos, no worries about strikes from the intellectually diminished people of youtube, just better.
I love my El Chete. I also have their BOB and El Chappo (cleaver). Really solid brand. I keep their whistle in my mtn bike gear.
The el chappo version with or without heel? I have a Esee Cleaver CL1 and like the fact it has no heel (and it came put before the chappo).
Always love your videos. Little advice for the ping pong chop if you film and chop from the other side when u drop the ball you don't have to reach across the hand your dropping the ball with and you'll have a easier time getting the ball.
best Manscaped advertisement ever!
I do love the obstacle course though
a battle between the strom vector vs el chete vs fallkniven modern bowie vs Terävä Skrama, will be awesome
Man youre geniouses! Beautifully done.
Damn this commercial. So funny :D Love you, guys, great sence of humor!
Had the same edge issues with mine, I also did the spine for the Ferro Rod, it really is a great blade.
Stupid question but how did you make the spine better. I’m assuming a few runs with file to make it square? My Finnish knives work but have a similar issue
@@pj4433 i use a diamond steel and just keep going till it's 100% sharp, put the blade in a vice and keep the diamond flat, when you want to test it, run the spine down your finger, that'll tell you if the spine is sharp.
All makers i use now come with a sharp spine guaranteed, best knife you'll ever buy is a William Collins WCSK, it'll also do everything you want 🐾🐾🥃
@@pj4433 p.s never use a file, on big blades and machetes you can cheat and run a sharpening steel along the spine, that'll roll the edge into a bur to strip a Ferro Rod 😉
Brilliant, now try Tops SXB the ultimate survival knife.
I'm gonna call it for the skrama 😀👍
I love this style of review, very fun.
Beste manscaped reclame die ik tot nu toe heb gezien
Damn, after watching this video l really want to chop something in little pieces....... LOL! Good Stuff Guys!!
Mikkie's raincoat looks really nice.
So which one would you guys recommend for chopping more the storm vector or the el chete?
You guys crack me up😅
Keep up the good work.
PS I realize that you are not too fond of the Essee 5 but could you please review the Essee 6?
Just file a 90 degree spline with a Helko Werk Axe file to get a spark from a file steel. Then all of knives will spark a Ferrocerium rod.
Most Tops knives are differential heat treated so the back is softer to absorb shocks, ideal for chopping and batonning.
But some of them won't get sparks that well as hardened spines
@@bazzc I filed a 90 degree spine on 2 Hultafors knives yesterday on a Craftmans Knife Stainless Steel RFR Enhanced Grip and a Craftmans Knife Heavy-duty GK. The stainless steel knife did spark the ferro rod the best. I was expecting the Carbon Steel knife to spark better.
@@amfearliathmor9747 why compare a 6 euro budget knife with no differential heat treatment to a 250 euro heavy chopper with differential...🤔
@@bazzc I'm not comparing the two, I wouldn't expect these knives to carry out the chopping capability of my £45 MOD4 knife. These knives offer excellent performance price ratio and complement my MOD4 for Bushcrafting and Sea Shore fishing trips.
Looks like I've been posting my comment on the wrong Video. I was watching the 'World's Best Budget Knives! Battle Of The Budget Beasts'.
My first reaction on your post was to point out that softer backs on knives due differential heat treatment throw less sparks than hardened spines. That's all. ✌️
I am very impressed by a Chopper called "Kodiak" from "Aurora Borealis Knives". Dont own it by now, but i'm in love. Maybe you are interested in checking it out.
I've never laughed so hard at one of your videos, omfg that was hilarious eating the durian. Thanks!
I have had an El Chete for a little while, and I've found it's downfall (for me at least) is that it is HEAVY. The damn thing weighs a ton, and when you're processing a lot of wood, it really wears your arm out. The BK9 however is the perfect wood processor. It's the perfect balance, so you can chop all day and not get worn out.
If you're actually processing large volumes of wood, why not use something more specialised like axes, saws, chainsaws etc? Not trying to be a jerk, I just don't really understand the mentality of using a knife to do that sort of work, no matter how big it is.
@@jameshealy4594 I do use all of those. I especially like and use many axes (Helko Werk, Husqvarna, and Gransfors Bruks). What I have found for processing branches 1inch and less is the BK9 is fastest out of anything.
If you like axes, I recommend checking out the Husqvarna splitting hatchet; it's amazingly effective for its size. Also the Helko Werk Spaltaxt. It's a very fast splitter when you don't quite need a maul.
@@JRPapollo I'd put the Kershaw Camp 10 and Ontario SP53 Gen II. ( in 5160 ) in the same class as the BK9. Personal favorite, Bark River Grasso Bolo III ( 5160 ) 2nd Gen. Cant go wrong with any of them. I have a lot of Tops knives but not the El Chete or Storm Vector. People love them:)
@@JRPapollo That makes some sense, my thinking is probably also influenced by my environment as down here in Aus our timber is apparently quite extreme.
@@jameshealy4594 That makes sense! I can see wanting a bit more weight behind it for the tougher stuff. I'm going through mostly maple and pine, nothing too crazy.
Hell yeah ! Another good video Thank you guys
Need to check out the Condor Woodbuster
My El Chete suffered the same damage, this last winter, from ice glaze on a stump. Serious chipping. Considering the HRC, I’m thinking it might have been burnt edge from factory but now I’m not sure after seeing yours fail.
Wich Level of pledge I have to do on patrion to join the giveaway?
Don't really understand that system... You have a video about it ?
I love the vid! But it would had more sense to put the two knives to the test with the same user (different knife but same strength and chopping technique). I also would like to see how a premium chopper like this would fare compared to more cheap options (like the Terävä Skrama).
22:30 they cant because of their differential heat treat the 90 degree edge would get rounded after just a few strikes
Thursday Funday move over Friday your nothing in comparison without a little DBK
It could be little stones and dirt impregnated in that old stump that destroyed the edge, non the bone itself. Kinda explain the drastic difference between the knifes on the first try
Nice shirt maarten!
Have you guys tried switching knives? Perhaps Mikkie is just a lesser bushcraft boy
I LOVE BUSHCRAFT BOYZ
Stay with three letter words. LOL
Where did you get that sharpener?
I’m glad to know that El Chetty is amphibious because I’m right handed and my wife is a lefty.
