    My dad told me to do this when I was in little league back in the 90s. The other kids made fun of me for mimicking the batter at bat. It's a solid technique and I don't know why it's not taught or utilized more. Thanks for sharing!

    I nearly feel as though I can say one of my best friends played professional baseball. His name is Matt Antonelli.
    Your insight and teaching is invaluable to those of us youth/young adult coaches looking to get it right. You are an asset to those of us that are students of the sport(s) we coach. The little things make a huge difference in the game - baseball/softball and LIFE. Thank you, Matt!

    Good stuff. I realized early on, NOT to focus the pitcher but see his silhouette , I was able to load on every pitchers front knee as it starting driving downhill and focus on the threads on the ball. After this I never had a problem with my timing even when a pitcher had a freaky windup or just good at hiding the ball.

    Thanks for the video. I 100% agree with what you said in this video. I want to add one thing. You need to decide if you would swing fast ball or breaking ball before you go in the box, because those are different timings. Of course, you have to change this plan after two strikes. You should do this as many as you could, because as you mentioned, all the pitchers are different.

    I have talked, explained and demonstrated this to my 12 yr old son over and over and he would nod his head like he got it but never really understood...mostly he just wanted me to shut up😂
    Finally, we went to a minor league game and I made him watch the hitters in the on deck circle. He turned and looked at me after about the 3rd or 4th hitter and said "they just load and step on the pitch and only swing the bat between pitches" 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
    Then he said "you should have just said that" 🤜🤡

    Keep up the great videos Matt, I have a question. Which eye is dominant for you, and how did this affect your batting stance? I’m thinking of playing recreational baseball and I’m right-handed and right eye dominant, so my swing feels better right-handed but I can see the ball better left-handed it seems. Is an open stance the solution or would it be worth practicing left-handed? It doesn’t feel totally unnatural.

    Question about timing. Do you think there is any value to actually timing with a precise stop watch the actual length of time for a hitter to start let's say his leg lift to ball strike on a Tee. Thinking as long as that's somewhat consistent for the batter could that help the hitter determine when to start loading? Not sure if that makes sense.

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  5 лет назад

      It’s an interesting thought! I’ve never really thought about that before or seen it done. Maybe I’ll mess around with it!

    • @jsal67
      @jsal67 5 лет назад

      This idea occured to me when I heard Jose Bautista talk about starting slow and early. He now doesn't need to rush his swing to meet the ball at the proper impact spot as it travels from the pitcher. He must know internally how long it takes him to get his bat to that spot. Therefore all he needs to do in the on Deck circle is time that up. The greatest benefit might be too make the hitters stay consistent in there swing tempos and not change when faced with higher and lower velocity throwers. I see young LL guys totally quicken up there swings when a harder thrower comes in and they give themselves little chance.

    • @theoriginalstud8641
      @theoriginalstud8641 5 лет назад +1

      jsal67 Yea whenever I’m on deck I count in my head “one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand... etc to get my timing down because I count how long the pitcher takes (beginning from his wind up) to get to the plate. When I get up to the plate I am counting from when he starts and I already know the time it takes the pitcher to get the ball to the plate so I am counting again to get to that number in my head. If that makes sense? 😂
