I've come up with a really easy way to automatically collect the eggs, which not only takes away the manual effort, but also increases the harvest as the eggs aren't getting eaten anymore. If you're interested let me know and I'll post the link to my video.
@@DIYMick I had the same idea as you about 6 months ago, but haven't been able to implement it yet. I tried using a very unique breeder box, but the plastic floats and won't sink into the tank. I haven't had much time to tink around with it recently, but I am glad to see if working for you as I thought it would work for me.

A wonderful and helpful video! You reference some micro-organisms that you keep in separate cultures and in the tank, what sort of little things (zooplankton?) are these and where do you get them?
I am glad that is was a helpful video for you. So the micro organisms that I referenced were infusoria cultures that I had from tank water and walter worm cultures that I have as well. I have now moved away from infusoria cultures and just keep a greenwater tank to place fry into upon hatching as the infusoria cultures constantly boomed and busted. Plus I found better survival when using greenwater over infusoria. Basically nothing really complicated, just tryin to find the bare minimum of work that I need to do in order to raise up a majority of the fry. I really think it is about how much time you put into it and making sure you are doing the proper things in that time to guarantee success. I can’t offer much help with angelfish or rams because I spawned those when I was a kid but the magic for them when I did was feeding the babies baby brine shrimp.
I’m running into issue with the eggs grow fuzzy white stuff on it. I’m trying something different now with the water / container they are in. I added a drop of Methlayne blue hoping this will stop the fungus growth

From what I’ve seen they deposit them around and in the mops. I’ve switched over to Java moss and actually and entirely different set up. It is the automatic breeder boxes on my channel. iam having trouble hatching the eggs can you explain in detail how you hatch them? the yolks in my eggs turn yellow tan and then solid white with in the time frame of a day. iam using an egg tumbler and ive also tried a floating tupper ware with airation
So I've that problem when the container that the eggs are being collected in or the container that they are being raised in have decaying or breaking down food. In your breeding tank I'd highly recommend good solids removal from the water column to minimize the decaying food in the tank. I actually stopped feeding my flake food to my breeders and only feed them pellets because I was noticing that the flake food was causing the eggs to go back but that the pellets would sink and not get into my breeding container. Long story short, I would try to be better about removing solids from the tank, cleaning and sterilizing your equipment on a somewhat regular basis, and look to see if you ahve uneaten food int he egg catching container. Sterilizing can be done through many different ways but the easiest one that I use and that is effective is draining all the water, removing and of the solids in the container, and then letting it sit out drying for a couple days to kill anything that is water related. Rinse with hot water before using it to do a final rinse and then use it again.
To suck up the fry/eggs instead of sucking them out, put your finger over the end of the line and then put the tubing above the fry/egg and then take your finger off and place it back on and then put the tubing to the new container and release! hope that makes it a lot easier 👍
Yeah, I am going to get a small plastic pipette soon. But a turkey baster is just much too large for these guys in my opinion given my current set up. Plus I don’t have a turkey baster and don’t want to go out and buy one lol
Eggs usually hatch within 2-3 days of beings laid depending on temperature, the hotter the faster. They then attach themselves to the side of the container for a couple days and then afterwards become free swimming. About 8-12 weeks later they start to show their adult coloration and depending on if they are runners or runts can be fully grown in around 3-4 months depending. Around the 3-4 month timeframe they will start spawning themselves.

Another question.. I'm also looking for stocking tips my 33 gallon.. how many cpd's do you recommend to have in a group for a tank this size.. I haven't decided on my centerpiece fish, I have two bristlenose and 8 mixed corydoras currently that will be going into this tank!! Thank you again!
You aren’t the first to wonder if it would be caviar if I accidentally swallowed some. 🤣 Hopefully this inspires you to try breeding them because it is much cheaper to breed them than go out and purchase say 50 of them. Takes more time but there is something in the fact that you raised them that is better than just buying them.
Well I can tell you what I am planning on doing with my 27 gallon cube. Hopefully that can help inform your own decision. I currently have 3 sub adult super red plecos, 6 babies that will be moved to other tanks when they are larger, 4 harlequin rasboras, and 25 CPDs ranging from adults to juveniles. In the near future I’d like to add at least another 25 more to the tank. Once they get larger I’ll have to see if I want to add more. For me I barely see 5 CPD at any time and I think a huge shoal of them would be amazing. I definitely would get 6-8 to start with because otherwise they’ll be shy and timid. So I’d say 6-8 minimum maximum I’d say maybe close to 30 for a large shoal would have a good effect. For a center piece fish a gourami, like the honey set, would be a good option. Hopefully that helps in deciding what to do, and let me know if you have any other questions.

Three main ways I know of and couldn’t really show due to my set up with the angle of the tank and all the stuff in. 1) females will be more gravid, more plump whereas male are more streamlined. 2) females will have a black dot right before their anal fin (most sure fire way) 3) females are less colorful in their anal fin and caudal fin and males will have brilliant colors through there and have a streak running down their backbone. In terms of sexing them as fry, I haven’t done that yet but I’d imagine it’d be just as easy once they are mature.

Glad I could help. It is also a great shelving unit to house 5 gallons tanks on. You can fit 4 per shelf if you don’t want to go with a 40 gallon breeder. Gives more space for breeding and growout tanks.
This is the ONLY fish so far that I can’t manage to keep alive past 2 days. Parameters are all leveled. It’s kept at 72 degrees at the moment. 10 gallon tank. I’ve had 4 in there thriving. I tried adding 4 more 3 times now and they all die.
First thing I would try doing is setting up another tank, like a quarantine tank for them with cycled media. Put them into there and if they survive in there then you know something is off in that 10 gal tank. That's the best I can do for you at the current time. Also in keeping them for almost a year now I do think that they need a decent amount of surface area on the tank bottom to call their own. That could also be what is happening or any multitude of other things.

I had a dense 10 gallon with dwarf hair grass and only CPDs. I would find several fry per day.

The trick to rams is super soft water 4-5 and temps 82-84

I still don't understand why people call these Galaxy Rasboras? The were only known by the name for a very short time 15 years ago. They are danios.
I’d imagine galaxy rasbora is easier to say to people continue to say it over celestial pearl.
