Hicthens is laughing and getting excited because he knows what he is saying is absolute garbage. He thinks the Blair government was packed with revolutionary communists even though they were the most business friendly Labour government in history, even though they sold off tons of state owned assets and brought in public-private partnerhsip with elements of the NHS. as well as hiking up migration to create a labour surplus which was what the CBI was crying out for to benefit the rich at the increasing expense of the poor. Oh yeah, truly revolutionary communist. The guy is barely a pseudo-intellectual. He's just annoyed because England no longer has the stringent morality of the Victoria era which he wants back so he peddles any old contradictory nonsense.
Hitchens is too comfortable in finding new ways to be difficult to talk to, and dares you to like him. Being extremely intelligent doesn’t excuse you for being arrogant and patronising.
Is he an idealist? His ideals appear to be a Christian nation where the sexual revolution never happened. Times, fortunately, have changed and it's not an ideal situation to have a society running on religious sexual repression and a lack of empathy. Why doesn't he take his own advice and move. The middle east is probably the last place in the world that would suit his ideals although he'll have to convert to Islam.
@darthpepe2994 I don’t agree, I just think things are beyond repair as does Peter and now awaits in gleeful fright. Only time will tell if revival is possible but I don’t think so. I think it’s unfair to say he’d like to see the country go to shit, he fought in his day for what he taught was right but he’s older now and as he’s said, given up. All you can do is wait in gleeful fright at being proven right, things are just that bad. I wish you the best though and on some level hope you’re right, but credit expansion and slow irreversible crippling centralisation of power is what the British are doomed for over the next 10 years. Well either look back and hate people like Peter for being so wrong or else realise people like him aren’t to blame for simply pointing out just how screwed the UK is. And sorry to repeat myself, but things are that bad, whether you know it or not yet
@darthpepe2994 to answer, your question at the end of the first paragraph, no. The UK currently lives under a state of marshmallow totalitarianism and no matter what the government slips in people are already to uneducated to recognise it or would rather sit at home, watch Netflix and do nothing. It’s a global phenomenon. Especially after the miracle of Brexit and how things have been dealt with thereafter, I think the country is one a one stop trajectory. I wish things were better but they aren’t If you do want hope, you should read about bitcoin and look at El Salvador. Imo that’s the future. Peter would never accept a thing like bitcoin at his age but everything he says is astutely correct otherwise. It’s not his fault for being such a depressive defeatist, doing anything politics nowadays would do that to you. Look after yourself and your family and abandon trying to change the system as it has no intention of changing for you. I’m sorry if this sounds crazy and if you have some hope to cling to, by all means

I'm not even from the UK and from the outside looking in your police force embarrassingly weak, your country is getting invaded, government is becoming more authoritarian, the woke ideologies are making people stupid... and most importantly - your country is at risk of becoming a Sharia Law state. Why is a Shariah state, or even a Muslim majority state, more important than people normally imagine? Because all of the military equipment, treasury and etc will be inherited by people who want to destroy the Western World. To those who think this is an exaggeration, I lived in an Arab country for a long time, and I can tell you the majority them hate the West, and they follow the Quran without questioning it. This means child marriage, death for apostates... and to the far left/woke people - all your efforts for women's rights will be flipped 180 overnight, and LGBTQ will face a death penalty (if not by law, then by society). I lived in the UK for a few years and I say this out of love, because it was my home at one point. Sort this out lads.

Oh yeah, truly revolutionary communist. The guy is barely a pseudo-intellectual. He's just annoyed because England no longer has the stringent morality of the Victoria era which he wants back so he peddles any old contradictory nonsense.
Peter Hitchens not voting Labour is the best recommendation of doing just that.
Peter Hitchens, you're a contrarian.
Peter Hitchens : I disagree

Hitchens is too comfortable in finding new ways to be difficult to talk to, and dares you to like him. Being extremely intelligent doesn’t excuse you for being arrogant and patronising.

Priceless.
Is it just me or did he come across as extremely patronising, quietly adversarial and rather condescending during this interview?
Man did he call it.
Obvious though , just watch the pm qs etc and manifesto
Peter is the embodiment of Carlin’s “Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist”.
Not really, he’s not a cynic and he’s not an idealist. Things are actually just really bad and in the trajectory of getting worse
I wish things were better but they aren’t
If you do want hope, you should read about bitcoin and look at El Salvador.

Not voting is voting for Labour, so I'm voting reform.
Depending on your constituency, voting for Reform could actually hand a victory to Labour. It really was stupid to vote against the AV referendum that the Lib Dems brough forward in 2011. If it had passed Reform/Ukip, the Greens, and Lib Dems would be all be strong parties with several MPs and would be highly unlikely that Labour would ever win a majority on their own. Instead, Labour on less than 40% of the vote could end up with over 60% of the seats.
Peter Hitchens is a smart guy but blinkered. You can see this in his history and compare vs his far superior older brother, which in part perhaps over influenced him, well tough act to follow in fairness… Hitchens C was consistent in his thinking but did evolve and mature. Hitchens P seems to have made sudden leaps to the opposite side and weirdly for a self proclaimed Trotskyite is now an arch conservative. The reality that seems to escape Hitchens P is that a vote for either Labour or the Tories (not conservative) is a vote for the Uniparty and a perpetuation of the corrupt globalist elite system. He is right that the Tories and Labour both “hate” the people, this is the globalist elites world view. Either pushes us closer to neo Feudalism, not neo Marxism, that is just the bait and switch ploy the elites are using on the wannabe Marxists (the deluded fools!). So he should be telling people to vote against the Uniparty but he seems to have a “kick the can down the road and how for a miracle” strategy. Well there is no such thing as miracles and gods help those who help themselves so the only possible vote to avoid a One World Government neo Feudalist future (aka serfdom) is a protest vote and the only possible protest vote is a Reform vote. You don’t have to like Reform or even want them to be a governmental party but such a vote shows the elites that the British people never, never, never, shall be slaves! You know the rest of the song! Sing it and remember who you are

What he has to say about Blair, Corbyn & Starmer and the capture of the institutions is very interesting.
"What’s more, Starmer himself is an avowed enemy of press freedom. As director of public prosecutions in the 2010s, he showed an alarming determination to drag journalists through the courts. He led the persecution of 30 reporters who were arrested and charged under Operation Elveden - most of whom worked for the Sun, as it happens. They spent years on police bail, their careers were left in tatters, and some attempted suicide. Not one was ever convicted of any crime. The police operation began in 2011 and the last journalist was cleared in 2016. This was a witch-hunt against journalists you would expect to see in China, and our soon-to-be PM was the witch-finder general.
