I do not have the option to "install" in the right click menu for the audio drivers. What should I do? Never mind! I shutdown and booted back into the card after previous installs and the option is now there. Editing my comment rather than deleting in case anyone else gets stuck.

correction: the warning in rufus doesnt make you check if you have the correct sd card. it makes sure you actually want to delete everything currently on it

It's actually really good at running most games - it'd be impossible to test all of them of course, haha - but from what I've seen the ones that have the most issues are ones with specific anti cheats. A lot of people see that if a game isnt "Steam Deck Verified" that it won't run, but that's just not true. Proton makes it super easy
you have to either remove the sd card before booting to get into steam os. or press the volume down and power buttons to get back into the boot menu. windows tends to change bios setting to prefer it over other operating systems.
Hello I have a few questions to see if these are able to be resolved. We've installed windows on a SD card, and set it up with no problem, it works fine but there is a few issues. The wifi adapters do not work for some reason, we have installed all the drivers from Steams Windows page, it connects via LAN fine but wifi is preferably. The rockstar games launcher won't sign in properly when launching GTAV through steam, we sign in, then it just closes and then never boots GTAV, another attempt will prompt sign in again and the circle continues.

I use to remand dufus but my move to MAC has made me gotten use to newer tools that I fell work better. I wouder if you can use Ubuntu in place of Windows 11?
It’ll be the microsd because that’s where windows is installed and it’ll be a helluva lot easier than setting your game path to another drive in another location
Valve will never "officially" support Windows, as they spent a lot of money and time on SteamOS - but they do provide the drivers for Windows at the very least. Installing Windows does not break your warranty or anything, but Valve support won't help you if you try to contact them about it.
rufus is not recognizing my sd card Im using the same one as you but mine is the 512gb version. Is there something that you did or am I doing something wrong? Im using my steam deck to install it I put in the sd card slot at the bottom and rufus is still not recognizing it. I also mounted the sd card Ive tried everything please help!

I’m not sure, I think it’s likely you’ll have to use the power and volume buttons because the steam deck wasn’t intended for this use but there might be a way to make it automatic who knows 🤷♀️

Once installed, I assume you can also just format your factory internal SSD (the with Steam OS installed) to be a drive for the Windows 10 boot (if you ever want to give up Steam OS) Though I would recommend reinstalling Windows 10 on the factory drive if you want to use Windows in the long term.

I successfully got Windows on my SanDisk EVo SD card but downloaded a game (PC Game Pass) and it takes forever to start then I could even get past the main menu. Is there any way to fix this or is my SD card just not good/fast enough?
Awesome duel booting to windows can be useful but I think SteamOS has nearly just as much features and games now which is great! Only issue I'd say is with Anti Chest games, hopefully continued support will bring us more of them

Well, finallly made it with the oled deck. I just hope bf2042 runs well with the samsung micro sd. Speed it 130mbs. Storage is 500GB. Update: the wifi driver says its installed but wont do shit.

didnt work, i installed windows iso on the sd card using the given programs, all the latest versions, when the sd card is plugged in it and i boot from it. it sends me to a window the says install now, and has a little Repair your computer in the bottom right, essentially its wanting to install instead of booting, this is the second time ive installed it, the first time i didnt even have the system 32 driver so what exactly is going on?

I might dual boot between the Samsung Evo and the Steam OS. Otherwise, I'll load windows onto the 1TB. If I have games installed onto my NVME, which will boot the SteamOS, can Windows 10, loaded from the MicroSD card, still find games that are on the NVME partition? You're guide was finally the best one I can work with while still maintaining my SteamOS. One question though because I tried to use my PNY 1Tb SD on Rufus but it wasn't recognizable. I settled for for a 256gb SanDisk since I was only paying Call off duty. But I'm already losing space. Has anyone tried this with a 1tb SanDisk SD card yet?

According to Windows terms and services, if you have a device with that size of screen, it does not require activation.

That’s a good question but I wouldn’t presume so, I think if you just take it out it’ll be fine like taking out an external drive
so are these CD keys lagit or gray market keys? will they deactivate my key after a few months because of it reported stolen?

you're supposed to click install now

You can leave it unactivated if you'd like, but to unlock everything you need a key

You probably installed the wrong drivers on the steam website, you need to install the ones for the actual OLED drivers,

I settled for for a 256gb SanDisk since I was only paying Call off duty. But I'm already losing space. Has anyone tried this with a 1tb SanDisk SD card yet?
