I wish I got closer with the phone camera for the painting, but recording at 60fps really limits the focus so I have to pull back a bit. I switched to 30fps for the end segment so I could get a bit closer. Which would you prefer? 60fps, or closer at 30fps?
About to start on my build. I’ve had this model for about 6 months now but did some smaller Bandai models to practice. I would highly recommended doing this because you learn a lot and this is a very expensive kit. My airbrush set up arrives today but I do already have experience with that as a commercial artist for the last 30 plus years. Now we do our airbrushing on a computer!!
Bandai makes outstanding model kits. It is great to see you got the chance to build the 1/72 Millennium Falcon. I can't wait to see the finished model.
I love it, very well done! If I had to nitpick I'd say 3PO's silver leg is a bit TOO silver...in the OT you could barely tell that that leg was a different color than the rest of him. Maybe a coat of the clear yellow on top of the silver? I dunno, that's just a random thought, all in all excellent work and an entertaining vid as always!
Cheers! It all depends on the lighting and his surroundings I think. On Tatooine it reflected a lot of the environment so did blend in a bit, but if you look at it on the Tantive it's pretty silver. Also the model feet are comically big, so it probably stands out more than it should lol.
Having just re-watched the original trilogy recently, I have to say that in A New Hope, at least, his silver leg is quite noticeably silver, especially in the opening scenes. Granted, in Empire and RoTJ its not nearly as noticeable, but depending on which references are being used (and I assume its A New Hope since Obi-Wan is present) its fairly accurate.
Amazing job capturing all those details! You not only varied Chewie's hair, but varied it in the right areas the right way. If it's post trash compactor, I'd add a little more dirt lol. Just a tiny note - princess Leia's boots were white, not black (though they did have dark grey souls). Thanks for your videos!
Cheers! Yeah clipping them off leaves a tiny bit of exposed plastic. I just paint over it. They're so small and deep in the cockpit you'd never notice. I'm always looking for ways to shortcut or cheat my way through a build!
Hey man awesome work im just wondering what brushes? are you using to paint the figures ?? do you have any affordable recommendations on good brushes ???
NewtonDKC No R2..and forcing a choice between Ben and Leia..since you can't really use both and stay accurate☺ Such nice figured tho..it would be a tough choice. Awesome kit, and a nice build 😎
WA, yes, but, on the off chance this is still relevant, I'd consider one of those figures to be redundant; there is no point in the film where both Leia and Obi-Wan are on the Falcon at the same time.
Ok wow you did such an amazing job painting those figs I've been going back and forth through your videos trying to find where you placed the other 2 and see if you could even see them
Just curious but why did you leave the figures on the sprue and prime them? Did you consider using a cork and some blu tack like you do later in the video? I've never been a fan of on sprue painting personally, too much hassle to get around edges and in my opinion doesn't help you get an idea of light flow around the model. Plus what with the sitting posture it would have been so easy just to take them off, file down the edges and do the nice clean paintwork without having to worry about going back over it later.
It was just quicker and easier to prime them all at once (wastes less primer too) and just decided to keep them there until I was ready to finish up. Cleaning up wasn't a hassle, just cut, slice off the excess then a few dabs of paint to cover the cut. There's no right or wrong way, I've done it like the way you've suggested before but I have no hard rules, I just do whatever feels the best at the time.
great paintjob! May I ask why you used the vallejo AIR colors, instead of the normal vallejo paint? Are they better to paint small stuff? Or do you just use them because you had them anyway ?

definitely closer. Movement in your videos is limited, and I think 30fps is absolutely fine.
+1! :)
Great job
30fps please. You don't need 60, just a clear shot of what's happening
I love how that Chewie came out. The black and a brown works really well at this scale.
Thanks!
Beautiful

I'm really in awe of your figure painting skills. My attempts to paint 1/72 figures look like something from a bootleg Chinese toy factory.
Thank you!
Bandai makes outstanding model kits. It is great to see you got the chance to build the 1/72 Millennium Falcon. I can't wait to see the finished model.
Thanks :)
I've got to say that these are the best painted figures I've seen for this kit 🖒😉
Cheers Tim, I've seen some pretty good jobs around too. 😁
This is the most amazing model kit I've ever seen. And put together by the most capable of hands!
Thank you!
Awesome job, Sam. I'm taking paint notes for I tackle my Falcon.
Cheers! If you need any paint numbers just ask. :)
You've been great about mentioning them in the video, Sam.
can't wait to get my own falcon, fantastic painting technique, thank you
Thanks :)
Nice fig painting, damn they look good for being so small. Hyped for this series already
Thanks! It's going to be fun. 😁
Really nice job painting those tiny figures! Leia's boots are actually white, though!
Thanks!
Excellent modelling skills, with excellent discipline. Well done mate
Thank you. :)
love watching your vids, inspired me to pick up a few kits myself
Cheers, that's great!
So huge! Looking forward to this build!
Thanks!
I love it, very well done!

it may be pretty hard to see in the cockpit anyway.

While we are on the subject.
Princess Leia wore White Boots in ANH.
Also in ESB, 3PO's silver leg is VERY visible.
This is awesome.🖒🖒 I'm happy you get to build this.
Thank you! Me too. 😁
Wow Great. You are building this!
I am! 😊
Looking forwards to the next episode!
Cheers!
Superb work as ever. I am about to start the build myself so it will be great to be able to do it along side you.
Thanks! Awesome, hope it goes well. :)

Thank you! Yeah I messed up Leia's boots, it was one of the few times I just relied on Bandai's painting guide, I've learnt my lesson lol.
very lovely nice model
Thanks!
These look awesome man! I can't paint like you right now but i am getting some practice
Cheers! Yeah all you need is practice, I see no reason why anyone can't end up doing a better job than me. 😁
Really looking forward to the next episode, this is going to be epic!
Thanks!
You can paint 72 scale better than i could paint 12 scale lol. I think you could become a surgeon as a side hustle :D
lol thank you!
OOOO this is going to be a good build! Thanks for doing it.
Thanks for watching!
🐸very good job !
I’m glade to see the next vidéo of your falcon !
Thank you!
Awesome start Sam!! America huh?? Gonna be a scary time packing it all up to send that far.
Bring on the cockpit!!!
Thanks Wil! Thankfully the Falcon is a nice flat ship that doesn't have a lot of sticky out bits, so with careful packing it should be quite safe.
At least being a press fit kit you can take the dish off for shipping. Handy place to hide a switch under there too ;)
dang i’m jealous! would love to get this kit :)
those figures look incredible btw!
Cheers!
That's some great looking figures right there! Another top video :D
Cheers!
Been waiting for this PG, keep up the good work 😁👍🏻
Thanks!
great videos! quick question when you pain the figures whilst on the spru doesnt it leave a mark on them when you trim them out
Great vid and awesome work, but no R2D2??? What were they thinking??? :-)
NewtonDKC No R2..and forcing a choice between Ben and Leia..since you can't really use both and stay accurate☺ Such nice figured tho..it would be a tough choice. Awesome kit, and a nice build 😎
R2 was never seen in the cockpit as he was busy hacking the chess game or fighting fires =)
Cool
The ASMR is strong
Hola. Que tipo de pintura usas? Que tipo de pinceles? Y que colores?
Can you post links for the paints you use?
Sure. :) www.acrylicosvallejo.com/
Millennium Falcon is cool!
I'm thinking of collecting star wars figure.
However, I was surprised at this miniature crew. wahhh! minimum size!
Yes!
Nice work on those tiny figures! i was hoping you'd get to video a build of this kit. How many parts, do you think?
Thanks! Really hard to say at this point, not sure how I'm going to break up the main build yet.
wow
Looking forward to following along with the build. Will you be posting on Tumblr as well?
Cheers! Yeah I intend to, thanks for reminding me. 😁 I need to be a bit more consistent, I usually always post stuff to Instagram and Facebook.
WA, yes, but, on the off chance this is still relevant, I'd consider one of those figures to be redundant; there is no point in the film where both Leia and Obi-Wan are on the Falcon at the same time.
Yeah I did have to check with my client who to place in the cockpit.
I guess you can choose. ..but good point il remember that making mine thanks
Ok wow you did such an amazing job painting those figs I've been going back and forth through your videos trying to find where you placed the other 2 and see if you could even see them
oh wow, i hadn't even heard of this. how big is it all completed?
About 19/20 inches long when finished. It's a beast!
Just curious but why did you leave the figures on the sprue and prime them? Did you consider using a cork and some blu tack like you do later in the video? Thanks! I just use them because I have them. I hardly ever buy Model Colors.
