Wait..hold on.... are you trying to make logic sense.... of Bill and Ted?
You don't do that. NOBODY has EVER done that. It's not that kind of movie. 😂
I can't believe she was offended by hair crimping being inauthentic. 😂
I want to speak to the manager! lol
Nerdy wildly oscillates between having the sense of humor of an 11 year old boy and a Vulcan
I think he would have had fun watching this with someone else.
@@MrKeychange Nah, Chleroos is just the right kind of fuck this noise for this movie 😅
Y'all kept trying to make sense of the movie. It's just not that kind of movie. It's a vibe. Not for everyone, I suppose. One of the all-time classics.
Yes! They were way overthinking it.
Yeah. This had the same depth as Hot Tub Time Machine- though I enjoyed Bill and Ted more. It was supposed to be a ridiculous premise for a funny situation.
Exactly. This is just the height of 1980s "valley girl/boy" / cali surfer moron movie. It is pure gold!
I agree! Both this movie and napoleon dynamite are just fun for the sake of being fun. Not all movies need to be technically perfect to be good.
I agree, I'm going to have to turn them off now, such a shame
I am amused at how desperately you are trying to find consistency and believability in the movie about two High School flunkies who travel through time abducting famous people so that they can someday bring about Utopia
😂
"Strange things are afoot at the Circle K" is forever burned into my brain.
Did we really expect these two, with their history of overanalyzing everything, to properly enjoy this classic? Still fun watching the movie slightly break their minds.
They're pretentious and boring in the most obnoxious way possible. Zero brain between them.
interesting fact: you are the only reactors who have ever said this movie is terrible. like literally everyone i have seen react to this movie over the last 10 years have loved this movie
It's like you deliberately went out of your way to nitpick and misunderstand the entire point and feel of the movie. It was honestly like watching my grandparents react to it... Disappointing, but oh well, to each their own. Better luck with your next movie.
Looking for logic in Bill & Ted is like looking for logic in Monty Python. You're completely missing the point. It's funny because of how silly it is.
Money Python would scramble their tiny little minds. I looked up clueless in the dictionary, and it had BOTH their pictures as the definition.
Looking for logic in Bill & Ted is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.
The fact that you tried to logically understand this movie is hilarious. The fact you didn't like it says so much and none of it good. This movie is a gem.
It is a classic because Bill and Ted are not the brightest bulbs out there but they are legit endearing characters with a good heart. That's why people love the film. They like seeing these guys go on crazy and strange adventures. The film does not take itself seriously enough to make sense so I think your overly strict approach to how you think storytelling ought to work is actually fairly limiting in terms of what kinds of stories can be told.
" well you clearly get get an F cos you didn't understand the assignment" Nerdy quote and fitting to the reaction
I love it when Nerdy said “it’s so fun to see Keanu Reeves in this kind of role” This was his only role type until Point Break. We thought it was a one off that he was so good in Speed. But when the Matrix came out, that changed his entire acting trajectory.
It's a bit like how people can't imagine Tom Hanks in a comedic role, yet that was his entire career for at least a decade, and then was half and half for the following decade.
When Bill was about to make a call and he said "Let's reach out and touch someone!" he was referencing Bell Telephone jingle that was ubiquitous in advertising in the 70s and 80s
For those who have trouble seeing action star Keanu playing the stoner Ted, think how hard it was for us to see him going the alternative route. Ted Theodore Logan as a choreographed action hero? Whoa!
This whole time i was just thinking of the mark hamill/Harrison ford line: hey kid it’s not that kind of movie
It's a classic!
Also, the line "Reach out and touch someone" was a slogan for the Bell telephone company.
The "let them eat fast food" girl definitely understood the assignment.
I seriously question these people's tastes in movies. Also in history reports.
"Only white people could believe that so hard." Proceeds to sing a Quincy Jones song.
"They really had Joan of Arc doing the dishes, huh?" in a scene where all the men also do housework is *chef's kiss*
The story of how Alex and Keanu met is really good. They were literally their characters. The friendship they have is real.
Guys... Lighten up. Its a silly time travel character comedy, not a Fellini film. Either enjoy it on its own terms, and unench your butts.
Do not let them watch Monty Python, they will hate every second of that critiquing all the plot issues and impossible action. I can just hear them say " you can't keep fighting with all that blood loss and only one leg! This makes no sense." or "there is no such thing as a bridge troll, I have been across hundreds of bridges without a single riddle needed"
yet, somehow, they are fans of "Dr. Who"?
@@James-iu2km things one grew up with tend to get a pass, I think
😂
The movie makes exactly as much sense as this story requires 😂
Neither of you passed, She was saying it counted as 50% of your total grade. He was saying you need to at least score a 65% to pass. These are not the same things.
Furthermore, if you got 20%-49% on your work throughout the year; I.E. "failing all assignments" so far, if you got over 80% on the final... you'd still pass. You don't have to get a 0% to fail... I'm gonna go ahead and guess Math wasn't a strong suit for either of them.
@@James-iu2km they didn’t pass because they are not talking about the same thing. Not because of math lol.
@@wb3159 I _already_ understood that they were talking past each other, *_and_* that you were referencing this issue... Hence why I used the term "Furthermore", as in in "addition to..", "as well as..." etc.
He had also said that "if it was worth 50% of the total final grade, you still wouldn't end up getting 50%, which isn't correct as evidence by the math example I gave.
Hope we're not talking past each other anymore like they were.
It's bizarre how you two seem to think that non-english speakers are so dumb that they can't recognize the introduction of people by their names or can't learn a game by it being demonstrated rather than being explained the rules in their native language.
Yeah... about that... mix in the out of nowhere anti-white racism, like we have no rhythm, and "Only white people" would believe... I'd be willing to bet that they *_also_* have some... _Interesting_ assumptions about most "races" but... since they are white, *_and_* woke, they'll only be racist to whites since... well you know, you *_Can't_* be racist against whites...
Also most of the people abducted have a grasp of English. Maybe aocrates and Genghis khan don't speak any.
That was the most non, non non, non triumphant reaction to Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure ever.
The crazy thing about their reaction is that my 2 sons, now 17 & 18, loved this film when they first saw it several years ago. Maybe because I didn't teach them to hate everything and not take things too seriously...smfh
Their reaction to this film explains why people of their generation can't make a funny movie anymore..they overthink it.
I've seen a lot of reactor watch Bill & Ted for the first time. You guy are the only ones I've seen not fall in love with it by the end. I'm flabbergasted. If Bill S Preston Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan don't warm your hearts, than I'm at a loss for wards.
This is what the new generation is ladies and gentlemen 🙄
It's just them, not all of them.
I can't imagine you guys reacting to Airplane or Monty Python's Holy Grail. It was fun to watch you try to analyze this seriously though.
This is the first Keanu Reeves film I ever saw as a kid. So while this was an adjustment for you, the Matrix was an adjustment for me hahaha
Oddly enough, this movie has really good "already baked in" time-travel logic.
Napoleon was about 5'6 which was about average height for a French man at the time and he never had complex about his height. It was a British cartoonist that created the myth of his tiny statue.
Also, the Iron Maiden wasn't a real thing, can't remember who off hand, but someone built one and pretended it was an old torture device and since at the time debunking B.S. stories was much harder than making them, hence their and a lot of other people's confusion.
@James-iu2km They also didn't get that Iron Maiden was a heavy metal band, hence the joke.
If this broke them so profoundly ... screw it give them Monty Python and the Holy Grail! Let them try to make sense of that acid trip of a masterpiece.
The Flintstones would probably be a mindfuck for these two
This movie was pretty successful when it came out, and it ended up spawning a sequel in 1991, then a Saturday morning cartoon, and a live-action TV series, and another sequel in 2020. Plus at least one comic book series.
"He pulled above his weight class " -- Irony alert!
I’m pretending the sound of hail is really you guys popping popcorn in the back to better enjoy the movie. Hope the car is alright.
I hate to pile on the criticism already here in the comments, but I clicked on the video to specifically ridicule the video title...If this movie "broke you", then how I can I watch this seriously? That's like saying someone told you the lyrics to the Old Macdonald song, and they crumbled your spirit lol
I figured they meant it cracked them up. lol
This movie was filmed in Phoenix, Arizona. San Dimas high was filmed at Phoenix College, the mall is Metro Center, and the water park was Golfland-Sunsplash in Mesa
Billy the kid fired a gun in a school theater but lighters is whats strange?
Ok ok but y’all have to have Bill and Ted 2. More nonsense, more craziness, more shenanigans, and maybe a cool new character that you might like.
If they can't let go of reality for the little bit that this movie requires, there is NO WAY they will be able to handle Bill and Ted 2.
Banger soundtrack btw
This movie epitomizes the adage never let reality get in the way of a good story. Like most of the 80's. Or rule of cool before it was a thing.
sigh, next time catch a buzz, grab some popcorn and just go with it....
"Reach out and touch someone" was the jingle for AT&T long distance service.
Honestly it's kind of sad that this movie impacted you guys this way. The Berlin Wall had just been opened and music was a big reason. So, yeah, we could easily hope for Wyld Stallyns to bring peace to the world. Even if we knew it wouldn't actually happen.
Can you even imagine them watching "dude, wheres my car"?
Interestingly, the time machine turns into a telephone booth because of Back to the Future. It was going to be a van, but they thought that was too close to the DeLorean so they changed it. The writers and director claim that they weren't aware of Doctor Who yet.
There's a wide variety of media types and this is one of those that doesn't and has never made sense that's the point, it is a dumb fun movie and knows it, you can either go with it and have fun or be a stick in the mud.
This is one of those movie is I initially think 'how did they not see this!' - then I remember when it came out and that I'm a couple decades older then Nerdy and Clarus.
I've shown this to a ton of Gen Zers; it's not the age. Most people love this movie.
@@MrKeychangeI've never seen anyone even dislike this movie. I'm just running through comments before pressing play and I'm getting depressed already.
@@crankfastle8138 It's borderline rage bait. It's like someone looking through pictures of your childhood and making fun of it
@@crankfastle8138 And yeah, I have never met or seen anyone (besides these two) from any generation, who hasn't loved this movie.
You guys are too young to remember, but "reach out and touch someone" used to be AT&T's advertising slogan (I think from the 70s until some time in the 80s). It was a big enough part of pop culture that sometimes people would use it as slang for making a phone call.
Bell
@@noteasybeingweezy AT&T owned Bell. By the time of Bill & Ted, Bell had been broken up & the trademark, including all advertising, was kept by AT&T. "Reach out and touch someone" was AT&T's slogan for a long time: ruclips.net/video/OapWdclVqEY/видео.html
I can't believe you guys didn't like it. I guess you're too young lol
To me the moments make the movie. That's it
I love when younger reactors think that the way actors are seen today was always how they were thought of like others have said on here about Keanu and Tom Hanks. Also, George Carlin understood the comedy of this film.
Carlin came back for the second movie so he wasn't embarrassed by it
@@m.e.3862 I think he really bought into the meta nature of the whole concept.
These kids don’t even know Carlin
@@ginahorton8886not would they get him.
ugh. First and last reaction I'm watching from this channel. What's really embarrassing is, you guys seemed to think you were really crushing it with this video.
One of my favorite movies. Another time travel movie you guys should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.
Be Excellent to Each Other 🤘🏼❤️🔥🤘🏼
This movie broke me too. I was the guy who got hired in 1989-1990 to port the "Bill 'n' Ted's Excellent Adventure" video game from the PC and Atari ST to the Amiga, and what an experience it was! The movie is probably better than the game, but, hey, see if you can spot the development team hidden in the background of one of the scenes. Anyway, the thing that I found cool was at the end of the project when we received the script for a proposed sequel called "Bill 'n' Ted Go to Hell."
the hailstorm noise is actually fine if you just pretend they're making popcorn in the background.
Is this the first comedy you two have ever watched? You seem to have gone into it with the "I'm not going to like this no matter what" attitude and stuck to it for the entire reaction.
Man you have to watch the second and third movies as well
First they need to get that stick out of their asses.
🤔 Nah, #3 wasn't good anyway and since they didn't enjoy #1, why bother with #2 which required they have some knowledge of old foreign films and styles.
Those were chickens under the table after he fell out of the suit. Hipsters!
I've never been so distressed by a reaction in my life. Let go. Sometimes stupid is fun.
Watching you watch this was exhausting. Maybe consider not posting reactions where you hate the thing people love. Nobody who hates this movie is going to watch you watch it, so it just feels like you want to aggravate your audience.
Good advice. They surely must be aware that they're the outliers when it comes to disliking this movie. And considering that this was voted on by fans of the movie, it would've been best to simply scrap the reaction and tell folks that they just weren't vibing with it. It's not like they're official film reviewers where they're obligated to say negative things about a movie they don't like.
Positive or negative, doesn't matter. Any interaction with the channel feeds the algorithm. The only possible repercussions are those that will not visit again. Heck, I'm very selective about which of their reactions I'll even consider and always check the comment section first.
Seriously. I know that it causes engagement and generates views, but it's a bad way to build a following.
@@WastedPo I've never seen an ounce of self-awareness from these two.
18:53 Has Socrates quoting (in Greek) the opening to an 80s Soap Opera, Days of Our Lives.
30:10 The stuff Joan of Arc left on the floor recreates the end credits of an old movie about her.
Congratulations on being the first people in history to sit there and trash Bill and Ted...... WOW!......smh......
Lol. I whole heartedly agree
The story of the movie which I don't think you were paying attention to is that the history report was on how the historical figures would react to modern day San Dimas - that's why Ted told his little brother to take Napoleon out to the movies, it's why they took the figures out to the mall, and that's what the other students were trying to convey in their (much lamer) reports.
Napoleon’s death certificate estimate that his height when he died was between 5’2” and 5’7” (1.58 and 1.7 meters). The discrepancy is often explained by the disparity between the 19th-century French inch, which was 2.71 cm, and the current inch measurement, which is 2.54 cm. Sources consequently estimate that Napoleon was probably closer to 5’6” or 5’7” (1.68 or 1.7 meters) than to 5’2”. Although the range may seem short by 21st-century standards, it was typical in the 19th century, when most Frenchmen stood between 5’2” and 5’6” (1.58 and 1.68 meters) tall. Napoleon was thus average or taller, no matter the interpretation.
Now I need to see them watch Weekend at Bernie's.
Bill and teds is testament to why movies these days suck a lot of the time. It’s not deep, it’s not trying to be clever, it’s not trying to be edgy. It’s just trying to be entertaining, and it achieves that in spades. I saw it in the cinema, I bought it on vhs, I bought it on dvd, I’ve downloaded it. In over 30 years, it has remained pure fun.
Golden rule of time travel is if your movie mentions Eddie van Halen you get to make the rules for time travel, other golden rule of time travel is if your phone booth is the time machine it is always bigger on the inside, can yiu think of a time it aint?
C'mon, Nerdy. You have to appreciate the trashcan ex machina...
I was in junior high when this came out, and as I recall the trailers included the iron maiden / bogus clip. I think those of us who saw this in its original theatrical release knew what we were signing ourselves up for with this movie. 😂
Controversial take - I do enjoy Bogus Journey more…Excellent Adventure is a classic and amazing and arguably the “better” movie. But Bogus Journey is more fun in a lot of ways
It's 200% more off-the-rails though and I don't think they're going to be able to handle that :)
Bill & Ted is just a fun adventure comedy it's not brain science 😅 the best way to enjoy this is not to over examine the plot too much but i also think as other commenters have said you went into this for the first time as adults for us as 6 or 8 or even a teenager watching this we didn't need to understand it it's just fun entertainment and was a big part of our childhood.
While yes some parts have dated but you have to look at it in the context of 1989 not 2024.
Generation Z is a very worrying generation indeed humourless.
While the phone booth is indeed a Dr. Who rip-off i don't think it was intentional i think it was coincidental the time machine was originally intended to be a van but it was decided against it because they felt it would be too much of a rip-off of "Back to the Future" so they went with a telephone booth instead while Dr. Who was known in the states it was not largely known at the time.
I definitely recommend checking out the second one that's also the best and a classic but the third i wouldn't bother.
If i had a tardis i would so go hang out with so crates and let him listen to the entire pimk floyd catalog
The time machine was supposed to be a van, but was changed because it was deemed too similar to Back to the Future. This was the 80s, there were like 25 people in America who knew what Doctor Who was.
21:20 Using the tip of a longsword and putting your weight behind it would, indeed, punch through full plate. It's not made out of aluminum - it's just on the wrong side of physics (which is why plate and armor in general went out of fashion over the course of a few centuries after firearms were introduced.) In a battle, though, something would have to go seriously wrong to allow someone to skewer you like that.
I told my nephew and niece to watch Bill & Ted to get a better sense of history.
Oh no
In 1988(ish) battery powered watches had been introduced, but many still required stem winding. There was a short lived experiment with eccentric spring weighted watches where moving your arm made the weight wind the watch.
The triumvirate of the future is composed of three different music performers of the 70s and 80s. Martha Davis of The Motels, Clarence Clemons of the E-Street Band (Bruce Springsteen), and Fee Waybill of The Tubes.
Gotta say, guys, I felt so connected to you both following your discussion of Chasing Amy but I feel very distant after this one. I credit this movie with beginning my love for history. We can't always be in lockstep. *shrug*
Wow, we finally found the only people on Earth that are so self-indulgent that they didn't enjoy this film.
I guess that also explains how you're enjoying The Acolyte.
All through the reaction you keep thinking that surely they will start to understand that it’s not supposed to be a serious “make sense” kinda movie…. 🤦🏼♂️
At one point Nerdy says ”I hate this movie”….well, I hated sitting thru this reaction so…. I guess were even 😏
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode are both great pieces of retro film/ TV that are great for getting high before viewing.
Then again, so was the 2nd season of G. I Joe.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is exactly in the same tradition as Hot Tub Time Machine. The ridiculous premise is baked in. It's not supposed to make much logical sense.
It's just stupid and fun. I was a freshman in High School when this came out and loved it. I doubt people on their late 20s or early 30s cared much for it. But for HS boys, it was just dumb funny.
Totally understand if you don't get it or didn't enjoy it. If you had been 14 when you saw it, my guess would be that you would have appreciated it more.
Then again, times, styles and humor has changed somewhat. We are more thoughtful and sensitive in some ways- a positive trend, I believe. I have somewhat prejudiced eyes for this, so it possible depends on humor that is not as prevalent as it used to be. The 80s were a different time, I know.
But the context and age of its target audience played a role in its appeal.
The 2nd movie came out in like 91 and had a ton of MTV coverage, especially as it leaned in to the music scene of the time. I have the MTV "Big Picture Show" special for Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and it is replete with bands and stars of the early 90s enjoying the homage that movies like Bill and Ted's brought.
(Nerdy, you may appreciate the MTV Movie Special on the Phantom Menace at Lucasfilm Ranch- complete with groups and stars of that era invited to watch the premier- that aired in 99 that was in a similar vein)
It's like stuff that comes out of japan don't question it, just go with it
You two are more ridiculous than the movie 😂
Iron Maiden is also a band
A classic that I still watch to this day.
I'm 3/4 of the way through and I'm tapping out. I'm usually SO excited for a Bill & Ted reaction, but I just can't.
I don't even know what to say, tbh
And i just recently found out that Rufus is George Carlin. But maybe because i'm german and i also just discoverd George like maybe 2 years ago.
Oh wow! I was in High School when the movie came out. Sure wasn't expecting a nerdy reaction to it. This should be fun!
A fire? At a Sea Parks?
Thanks to the comments for letting me know they don’t even try to engage with this so I don’t waste time watching them frustrate me.
The original script had them getting a 69 Chevy Van to time travel in, but as Back to the Future had come out recently and they were afraid of being compared to it, and was rewritten to the Phone Booth. Doctor Who was not quite the international hit yet, and only a few of us caught on.
37:53 no one ever mentions how Freuds erect corn dog starts drooping when it starts going south with the girls.
Maybe you had to be a teen GenX’r to get this but it was hilarious when it came out. It also had a huge impact in two ways One on Keanu’s career and the other on ‘stoner’ buddy movies for the next decade.
After Bill and Ted (a pair of lovable idiot metal heads) we got Wayne and Garth of Wayne’s World, a pair of lovable metal heads, then we got Beavis and Butthead a pair of idiot metal heads.
For Keanu we didn’t start with John Wick and saying “damn Keanu is bad ass”. Then going back to the Matrix and said “damn he’s a bad ass here too”. We got him as Ted Whoa! Theodore Logan.
To get away from that character he started doing serious films and actions films. It took Point Break, Speed and finally the Matrix to break him out of the stoner buddy mold. Although even the Matrix did a nod to Bill and Ted with Neo going “Whoa!” when Morpheus leaps across buildings.
So Bill and Ted hit the zeitgeist in a big way at the time.
Keanu Reeves played basically the same character in River's Edge, a serious, depressing drama, and Parenthood, a family comedy film with Diane Wiest and Steve Martin.
The only thing better than your reaction is the comment section! Never thought I'd find angry Bill and Ted fans.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure was filmed in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ. The mall was Metrocenter and the waterpark was Golfland Sunsplash in Mesa, AZ.
Did the mall have an ice rink?
@@hellomark1 yes and it was later replaced by an arcade and after that, they turned it into a Harkins Theater. Now they are about to demolish the whole Metrocenter building. RIP Metrocenter (1973-2020)
Re the hail, where are you (which state/province). I'm in Maryland and hail here isn't anything. I was treated to a Colorado hail storm once and, by comparison, is APOCALYPTIC.
Love these movies, closest thing to Python I think came out of America, in terms of it's sheer silliness. Python always wrote their gags and jokes first, then wrote a story around it to make them connect up, it never really connected up perfectly, but that was fine, the point was the jokes. I feel the writing for this may have been kinda similar.
"Bill and Ted didn’t really have a character arc; it was essentially sketch comedy." - Director.
So yeah, it's really the same exact reason Python movies feel this way, it's the point of it.
Love how this broke you!! If you think this is insane, please watch the second one, it's way more insane!! 😂
