You all will be amazed to see how harmoniously people live with each other in border areas of both states. Many lingayats and Kannada speaking people (new generation for sure) in Maharashtra borderlands have switched to Marathi though the same is not the case with Marathis of Karnataka at home but they converse in Kannada outside. But they live like brothers and sisters. If politicians never bring us these dividing issues, there was absolutely great peace in these so-called disputed areas.
It's such a shame politicians don't work toward the betterment of society by providing them basic human resources. But for votes they do all the dramas. There's water scarcity in Maharashtra side. I don't think Maharashtra provides any facility to people who wish to learn in Kananda medium. But they ask the same for the Marathi people of Karnataka, though Karnataka has Marathi welfare society, a president to it. Karnataka scrapped Marathi medium I'm not sure. Because of this as I could see, Marathi speaking villages' people struggle a lot. I've been to so many villages for Bidar districts who are borders to Maharashtra where almost 100% are Marathi speaking. Who cares for them? I don't think any district minister has ever visited those villages.
Both states' politicians should be ashamed of themselves to put innocent people into all this, making them quarrel but not give them any basic resources. These guys are making India a huge disservice. Shame on you.

I think u should not say "Both SIDES Politicians should be aahamed....." because the dispute is from Marathi side only.... They claim Belagavi, here Karnataka is in defensive position... All this conflict started from Bal Thackeray coz initially he wanted to gather support for his regional party by encouraging Maratha nationalism. Same like Tamil politicians play language card, he had even called Kannadigas dogs...
Now, local MES get support from Thackeray family. Karnataka has 2 national parties, BJP and Congress both gain nothing from this conflict, they also want Marathi votes...

As someone who lives in Belagavi, I would like to say that *Development of Belagavi* is important then the state it lies in. Most of people there in Belagavi are tri/quad lingual (Kannada,Marathi,Hindi,English) and we all are living in harmony, we all crack jokes about this whenever we listen this news. 😂😂😂😂

As a native of Belagavi and a Kannadiga, I feel sad when Bisbo comes up with images such as Karnataka CM hanging by a cliff with a baggage called Belagavi (unable to find the pic now. Hopefully Bisbo has deleted it). Belagavi has always been Karnataka's and will remain so. And so are the Marathi common people of Karnataka. They are our people. Karnataka has undergone immense cultural and linguistic trauma at the hands of Marathi organizations. We have witnessed the statue of our beloved Sangolli Rayanna and our great Queen Veera Rani Kitturu Chennamma being insulted. Despite that, peace prevails due to the strong fraternity among the common people. At 0:05 Bisbo reads 'a city on the border of Karnataka and Maharashtra' while the fact is that it is in Karnataka and bordering Maharashtra. Bisbo can be more sensitive to the sentiments of the people of Karnataka

We are living in Belagavi since generations and our greatest investment is not in house or property but emotions. Storytelling should not intentionally/unintentionally hurt anyone. It's funny when people living in Mumbai and Bengaluru get so hyped up and emotional over the issue, but me and my maratha friends who are from Belgaum/Belagavi rarely feel this level of hostility in the city.
MES is the thing of the past and it's too late for our city to transfer to Maharashtra. Let's keep the status quo and focus on the real issues like drinking water you mentioned.
Also the demographic u stated was of the whole district which is probably 40 years old, now the city as well as district I'm sure are majority kannada-speaking people.

At the time of division of states, the majority people and land owners of Belagavi were Kannada speaking. That' s why it was given to Karnataka. Maharashtra doesnt want to respect the ruling. that's the problem. They have always stoked fire both inside Karnataka and inside Maharashtra. Its disgusting to see there are still drinking water issues in Maharahstrian villages bordering Karnataka. No wonder no one wants to be part of that under developed state and want to join Karnataka. The highly communal MES is the main problem.

Yes we won't accept Hindi imposition on us but we are not against any language. Kannada is our first priority because it is language of land and English made us globalised. Only Belagavi city has a sizeable chunk of marati speakers owing to the erstwhile British establishment. Belagavi district itself is Kannada dominant as shown by census.
Many districts/talukas of MH like Sollapura, Kolhapura, Akkalkote, Sangolli, Jat etc have majority or sizeable Kannadigas and MH govt has continuously subjugated Kannadigas in education, administrative infra, so they should be merged into Karnataka to save them from terrorist Shiva Sena, MES goons.

I have spoken to Marathi-speaking people in Karnataka. I asked them whether they wanted to merge with Maharashtra. Their response was they were happy in Karnataka. When I asked what about the Kannada imposition, they said they are OK with it and didn't feel the language is imposed on them.
It depends on whom you ask.
Most farming class and blue collar Marathi people prefer Maharashtra. Only the rich and elite Marathi speakers want to stay in Karnataka.

I had been to Nippani near Belgaav recently. I was shocked to see so many Marathi speaking people. I felt i am in Maharashtra. I am speaking from neutral point of view. Local people should be given justice.
While forming states based on language, they take majority of speakers of a language district wise and not village or town wise. That's why. See if you can see any village of Maharashtra where more than 80% are Kannada speakers. You'll get some.

By that measure, indeed Belgavi district belongs to Karnataka. This district was formed by Bombay presidency. What injustice? They aren't allowed to learn Marathi in the state? They want Marathi slips in Govt offices and banks? We don't get Kananda slips in banks ourselves. Marathi slips cannot be provided just for one districts in whole of Karnataka. Even Maharashtra has so many Kananda speakers and that too in majority in some villages and towns. What justice are they given?

I agree that States were formed based on language spoken. I have been to Belgavi & most people speak marathi. Considering the economic importance of the city, it was given to Karnataka. This has caused injustice. This issue was raised several times in Parliament right from independence. Finally in around 2004 the issue was raised in court's.
Even the people (from belgavi), i have met here agree with this.

As a Belagavian I agree with the fact that Belagavi city and few more places have 60% of Marathi speaking population which have near to 5 lakh population but not the whole Belagavi district which has 40 lakh+ population with 95% Kannada speaking population.

I am from Belangavi. Many individuals can speak both Kannada and Marathi, although Kannada is their first language. There just aren't many people speaking Marathi in the rest of the district you mentioned in the video. However, in the Maharashtra districts of Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur, we observe that more than 60% of Kannada people there , and people there prefer to join Karnataka. The reason for this is that Karnataka villages in border districts are significantly more developed, with basic utilities and subsidies for farmers and industry. Farmers are happy. In Maharashtra, however, the situation is dire, with communities lacking even a basic supply of electricity and drinking water, much alone water for agricultural purposes. I believe it would be preferable if the Maharashtra government focused more on the development of those villages and saving the lives of poor people rather than battling for cheap political gain and ego.

To those of you people who don't understand, read our history!!! Belagavi was part of Kannada kings/Deccan kingdoms till 13th century. Once the Islamic rule started in the Deccan region until the Vijayanagar empire glory, it was part of Deccan kings/Sultanates. During the birth of Sivaji s Maratha kingdom,, when they conquered Belagavi fort from Deccan Sultanates, they found that the land was very furtile and ideal for raising their Cavalry. Lot of Marathi's then migrated to the newly occupied lands as it became an economic and militarily important region. After the defeat of Tipu, the Mysore kingdom lost most of the northern regions to Nizam and the Maratha kingdom who assisted British to defeat Tipu. If you see the oldest surviving land records from 12-13th century - all of them are in Kannada. Those Marathi's who shamelessly think just because there is a larger number of population who speak their language should belong to them are no different from Pakistanis who think Kashmir is theirs because it has large Muslim population. The Kannadigas are one of the most peaceful people who integrate with other speakers, see Bangalore for example. we welcome other Indians with open arms until you disrespect our land and our language

miss information video with propaganda kanada speakers in the district is 68.4% and marathi speakers is 18.71% and according to mahajan commission 294 marathi villages as to go to maharastra and 292 kananada villages has to come to karnataka ,because of maharastra government is not allowing kannada villages to merge with karnataka marathi villages are not merged with maharastra so maharastra government is the real blockage.

Hey everyone, I want all to know that to not make this a big issue and let it be with the original owner (Karnataka) but the Maharashtrian and kannadigas can both live in harmony and not cause a big ruckus as the apex court (Supreme Court) will make an intermediate decision appeasing the two states and focus more on the external threat on the nation because all of the need to unite and stand together shoulder to shoulder, to defeat our enemies and if this issue continues, the people there will suffer as mentioned in this video. I would request that Eknath Shinde to not act like his predecessors and try to give a reply to Uddhav Thackeray as the opposition in any state knows to hinder the process and discourage the ruling party's decision. Still, Maharastrian people should not behave aggressively on this topic as we are brothers and sister of the same nation and if they continue this the politicians will use this issue to come back to power. finally, i would say that the original owner gets it as the people of belagavi are very relaxed about this topic in general and remain calm about this issue in the future also I would request both sides of people to not fight among ourselves and not to make any more suffering to any people in belagavi and let it remain as it was and Maharashtrian to not get violent over this issue as it has been a very integral part of Karnataka's history and everyone stay away from all the violent elements of society on this issue. I loved bisbo but today it is off facts and reality while the metropalitan belgaon has around 60% Marati populus the belgavi as a whole has more then 70% population as Kannadigas and also the issue of Bijapur, Uttara Kannada(Karwar), Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag it is hilarious as the Marathis do live here so does marawadis and sindhis but all are minorities they don't even dominate a particular place in these districts to ask for joining Maharashtra it is just political gimmick by MES and both the state govts while in reality all concerned are living peacefully only these people are the ones who are threatening them now not the state borders.

I think the problem is from both sides. You will not find any border land in India where 100% population follow a culture or speak a language of the territory they belong to. Though belgaum have large population of marathi, same is with villages in Maharashtra having border with karnataka. This is play by centre to keep people of Karnataka & Maharashtra engaged in stupid fight and divert projects to Gujarat. Later they will say we are moving that project to Vadodara bcos this area isn't peaceful and people will blame it to Maharashtra, or they move some project from Maharashtra by saying that this is disputed area, we cannot proceed, people will blame Karnataka. I think let the villages in both states be in the states where they are. Cm of both states need not to declare if they getting letters of any people wanting to join thier states. Let there be peace and unity and focus on development. Don't say these much percentage of people are of that state, say we have shared cultures.
Now the karnataka opposition party congress is in power they have not said a word on karnataka dispute with maharashtra they blame the MAHARASHTRA GOVT CENTRE and karnataka BJP for the problem and simply wash off their hands from this border dispute

Mysore has many Marathis and they top live with kannada people without any issues. Let's not fight with each due to political ill interests.
