FIRST TRIP REPORT of the NEW AIR ITALY Airbus A330-200! Join me on this nearly EMPTY Flight from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Economy Class. Seat for this Wing View is 25A.
Air Italy (rebranded - formerly Meridiana) has received it's first Airbus A330-200 with the registration EI-GFX. The aircraft used to fly for Qatar Airways - the airline who recently bought 49% of ex Meridiana. With this large stakehold they also initiated this rebrand and will guide the airline through future expansion! This first Airbus A330 is a new aircraft type to the fleet of Air Italy and so Crew Training flights were conducted - this flight being one of them. I was extremely lucky to be on one of the few flights (most flights were planned to be operated by the A330 but about 95% got changed to a Boeing 737-800 instead). So I actually ended up being onboard the 10th ever revenue flight of the newest addition to Air Italy's fleet - the A330 in the new repaint and the with the new cabin!
You might could make out I am very excited about this aircraft and the fact that I was one of the first/the first travel blogger to fly on this aircraft ;) Don't get me wrong - I paid for the ticket, had the same chances of an aircraft change... - I guess I was simply super lucky :D

The economy class seats look like Qatar airways ones.....because they are the Qatar's economy class seats (there was a hint, when you fliped the IFE remote around there was still some Arabic writing) and their business class as well.
They are renting/leasing them from Qatar airways to bridge the gap untill their 787's arrive.
So they are still Qatar airways planes but with a Air Italy livery slapped over it.
Anyway nice vid mate.
oh ok - i have never flown on Qatar Airways... (booked 4 flights on them next month ^^).

These were the old seats so you should have a newer product when you fly them :)
Qatar airways owns 49% of air Italy but shares.
I also went to Qatar Airways to go to Rome and Dhaka
FCO-MXP Will never be a profitable route. Everybody prefers to take the high speed trains, like Frecciarossa or Italo.
+Riccardo Sivo i completely understand - you waste so much time at the airport (and getting to amd from the airport adds at least another 2 hours to your journey).
Actually this route, like other domestic routes, are mostly considered as feeder for current and future Air Italy international flights leaving from MXP.
I think they used this route to train cabin crew members

In older days, when new airline comes up, they had to spend A LOT to promote them, but in these days, plane enthusiasts like us do the things for them{partly}

Here in Italy, when we have to travel from Rome to Milan or vice-versa, we prefer to use the train, cause Malpensa and Fiumicino airports are too far from the city center (for example, to reach the center of Milan from MXP you take about 1h). So that's why you find not too many people on this flight!

Wow, great TR! I really enjoyed it! You are the first vlogger who uploaded a TR on the new Air Italy! (First, the QR A320 and now the A330!). So lucky! You ask if the interior colors are similar to QR, but actually they haven't been changed! It's a shame that they don't put the antimacassars, since the headrest could become dirty!

A330 is a beautiful bird that goes well with every livery. Air Italy has a really good branding indeed, even if Meridiana will be missed.

Easyjet e Ryanair hanno già rinunciato ai voli Milano Roma e viceversa, per il semplice motivo che la gente preferisce il treno per via del collegamento rapido in centro città, è comodo il bagaglio lo hai vicino, puoi alzarti e correre per le carrozze per 2 ore e 55 minuti. Io quando andai a Roma presi l’aereo, costava solo 24 € a confronto del Frecciarossa che ne costava 80€ amo gli aerei ed un’oretta in più al check in non è nulla se il viaggio è solo di 1 ora

hi, good job, I like this video. I'm from Italy, i think there weren't so many people in this flight because other companies, like Alitalia, offer a lot of flights between MIlan and Rome every day and they're cheaper than Air Italy.
Another note: you write that you are taking off at 10:43, but you are not 23 min delayed. The scheduled time of departure (10:20) should correspond to the estimated Off-Block Time, it means the moment when the aircraft is pushes back. It's not the takeoff time. The delay is calculated from the scheduled to the actual OBT.
Also, at the end, you write "Neos (TUI)" but actually Neos is not affiliated with TUI since 2004.

Really nice. Numbers of passengers tho, lol! Plane wouldnt even half full even if it was the 737 Max. Check out their 737 Max when it comes into service PlaneSpottingBerlin. Nice Cabin and like the seats. Cants wait for them to get the Dreamliner. We get Neos 767 (soon 787) flights here in Jamaica and also Blue Panorama both from Milan MXP. Means if I wanna get to Italy from Jamaica, dont have to do connected flights.

Yes the cabin is Qatar Airways. At least they got a plane with a recent IFE (there are some A330 with much older system in Qatar airfleet).

I flew the Qatar A330 and it is actually the same plane with different livery.. essentially even the crew uniform is the Qatari a part from the logo which is different

Das war ein Crew Training Flight. Die A330 fliegt seit dem ersten Juni nach New York! Ähnliches hat z.B. Swiss mit der 777 gemacht (Zürich-Genf, Zürich-Hannover) oder British mit dem A380 (London - Frankfurt).
Normalerweise setzen die eine 737-800 ein.
In der Tat eine sehr schicke Lackierung...
Man darf gespannt sein, wie sich diese Änderung weiterentwickelt.

Have you ever flown in business class? And could you tell me some advice on flying business for affordable prices? I see many bloggeers who fly in business class as if it was so simple, most of them i guess are not even that rich!
I have flown in Business class on very few flights - but sometimes you can find really great deals. Or what I mostly do to fly Business class is to buy an Economy Class ticket and then bid for an upgrade (not 100% safe you'll get it but most of the times much cheaper.)

+GJGBTL231 auf jeden Fall ;) aber auf der Route die Simply geflogen ist war keine A330 geplant - sie wollten ja mit der MD83 fliegen. Aber FlightExperience hat die Qatar A320 statt der Air Italy A330 auf dieser Route bekommen.

Will Air Italy 🇮🇹 take over Alitalia and become Italy’s major Carrier?. With Etihad’s failed investment in Alitalia and the financial debt Alitalia has not to mention the corruption within the Airline, I can see with Qatar Airways investment and rebranding of this new airline that it can seriously become a great airline and a serious competitor in Italy. Only time can tell.

Air Italy is running a lot of ads in the San Francisco Bay Area. It’s the first nonstop service to Italy out of SFO in quite some time. I am thinking about trying it out.
I don't like this livery and its color combination at all, very un-Italian. I like the seats color though.

People take the train now. More efficient. Surprised at the good legroom. I thought they were low cost. Business is now flat beds? However their planes are old I think?
About the train it is true if you don't want to go the US for example and catch a connecting flight (cheaper than direct). Business Class is not fully flat I think - but Air Italy will announce it soon I guess.
This aircraft is from Qatar Airways and is about 14.2 years old ;)
