@@Autisticguywithacamera That and actually make the kingdom that Cedric came from as a prequel theme to KK1. I hate that Lego glossed over Cedric's story and didn't even consider making the kingdom he came from into a theme. Seeing Cedric's 12 other brothers and what Cedric was like back when he was in royal clothing and before he went rogue and changed to the black, red and grey bandit clothing he now wears? Hell yeah I want that! Perfect opportunity for a new theme and to expand on the story of an old one. Besides in this day and age Lego loves making their villains have depth, motivation and even possible development for redemption. For an early 2000s Lego villain Cedric had these traits so what's wrong with bringing him back? MAKE IT HAPPEN LEGO YOU HEAR ME!? I want my boy Cedric back and the potential he deserved! I had at least two sets from the '07 Castle theme, the Knight's Catapult Defense and the Skeleton Prison Carriage. I totally agree with the Skeleton Tower's design, even if its functions were rather similar to the Fight for the Golden Tower from Exo Force that same year. In fact the Exo-Force episode and the Knights Kingdom episode were how I found this series in the first place.

1:11 "So I guess this isn't that unrealistic"
Actually, the stereotypical image of a gray, gloomy castle is the unrealistic one. Castles had richly painted interiors and exteriors, and the interiors had lavish, complex paintings and frescos depicting scenes of the Bible and what have you. A yellow castle is closer to reality than a gray, colorless one.

The "second half" of Kingdoms is actually a 2013 redo of Castle. I really didn't care much for it as the 2007 Castle and Kingdoms were way better in my opinion. I actually have a lot of minifigures from almost all of those themes, and I've put a lot of them in the Knights' Kingdom 1 castle I own. Besides that, I actually made the Skeleton Tower from the 2007 Castle with the parts I have, and that underbite can be pulled up like a drawbridge, which I find a pretty good function. The front part even splits open to allow people to enter or leave it

Oh, I was obsessed with Lego Castle back in the late 80's/early 90's... I really loved how they handled the factions back then. Each faction had a giant home-base set and a couple outposts, (I don't think the revived dragon knights ever got a real castle) and there was always overlap between introducing new factions and retiring old ones...It just made the world feel huge! One big free-for all... There were many times as a kid when I had three or four MOC castles going at once, all fighting each other!

That wizard with Ogel's reminds me of how Lego, at least used, to have characters in one theme be related to characters in another. Made everything, baring the licensed themes of course, feel interconnected like it was all one world. As a kid, the vast majority of my LEGO sets were Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and of course Star Wars. But I've always admired the Castle line, ESPECIALLY the old sets like Forestmen, which I think just have such an awesome aesthetic. I guess the line isn't very profitable anymore, but I'd love it if LEGO started making larger sets in the theme that are more detailed, kind of like modulars. If they released a full 360 Castle themed build per year I would definitely buy them. BTW absolutely love your series you made it's really detailed and well done, feels like a short documentary series you'd see on PBS.

One thing i mostly missed in castle themes was the civilian based builds thats why yeah the farm and the town square sets from the lego castle and kingdoms themes are some of my favorite because they look more towards the civilians and less the soldiers for a medieval world you had suprisingly few buildings for a city or settlement. i think even though the original castle thems look simple that makes them look nice the siege towers are simple but do what they need to do i would love to see a castle theme again that has the astetic of kingdoms but the world building of the earlier things and more civilian based sets and for a castle they could make one giant castle through smaller sets than you can combine and give you the freedom to make your own castle like a set with a greathall/throne room an armory a set with the towers and walls maybe like a great tower so they can try out new designs for a castle to keep it intresting

As soon as I saw skeleton carriage from Fantasy era I immediately fall in love with that theme. In my opinion it was the best castle theme since it had four fractions with somewhat different aesthetics. I always imagined that orcs, dwarves and humans were separate and had their own conflicts and temporary alliences, while skeletons were that hivemind type of legion that just floods you with numbers.
And when it ended and next castle theme came I just took it as two fractions inside human fraction, like two lesser lords that don't like each other but they serve the same king and they have to raid each other since they can't just start war with each other and risk that King would intervene.
Then came that last castle theme and it was nice. I mostly used it to improve previous themes.
And then came Nexo knights. And I knew that I won't get next castle any time soon.
In castle I always loved something that was also in space theme. You can get few sets from different themes and they'll still somewhat fit together. Especially fantasy era and later. And even Nexo knights managed somewhat to do that with lava monsters and gargoyles.

The best thing about castle was the lot of special sets, which were mostly world building and not particularly focused on combat, but on farming and living and such.

Given that the Ogel-faced wizard has skeleton minions, I figure that Ogel somehow got banished through time and just rolled with being considered a necromancer.
I should also add that if the Lego set is vaguely medieval, I will consume it.

Visited the Czech Republic a few years ago and that trip included a lot of incredibly beautiful castles... both inside and out.
As well as a few stranger encounters
So, yeah, I don't imagine them looking like crumbling ruins in the days when people were still using them. :) Funny thing is, I'd imagine a European company would be more familiar with that idea than someone from North America, since those *are* many of their heritage buildings and tourist sites and historical exhibits... but maybe they just americanized it for their (probably) biggest audience after the first couple years.

I loved castles and medieval themes as a kid, so naturally Lego Castle was one of my fav themes. I doubt kids today learn much about them, so that could be part of why the theme is somewhat dormant. I mean Minecraft gets a ton of sets, which is just Lego representing a video game that represents a blocky, Lego-like world. Seems absolutely redundant, but it's an easy seller, unlike a Castle theme that would require creativity and take a risk on not being a money maker.

I had such a mishmash of Knights sets. Some of the 80s and most of the smaller 90s sets (the older ones often bought second hand in biscuit tins).
The huge mix of factions, and the varied heraldry within the factions meant you could play tournaments or complicated political situations really easily. To this day I've got a small plate of mixed Knights figures in a diorama loosely inspired by Hastings.
And I've used lego figures a few times over the last few years (mostly LotR but some Knights) for playing d&d.
Tbh if they ever released more of the small modernised sets (especially figure heavy ones) I'd probably buy them. Lol.

Wow, that was fun to watch. So I had a old lego castle you didn't flash up, but that's okay. Been nearly 30 years since I messed with Legos. But I bought a couple Ninjago sets...but then I saw Nexo Knight sets, then Monster Fighters...I've missed a lot of sets over the years. Shame I missed those, because I really liked the He-Man toys that mixed science and sorcery together. And Nexo Knights was looking to be a cool castle series.

All the Nexo Knights accept for Robin have symbols that are from an older castle theme
      Clay is Black Falcons
Macey is either Black Knights or Dragon Masters
      Aaron is Wolfpack
Lance is probably Sir Kentis from Knights Kingdom 2
Axl is Cedric's Bull Bandits from Knights Kingdom 1. If only they gave Axl grey eyes i'd believe the theory that he's Cedric's descendant.
