I've said this before, you are a great teacher. you instill excitement in your viewers. in education-speak, you have charisma. that is, you are able to relate to the people you are speaking to without having to actually know them. that draws them in.
Game changer! I’ve been using knit companion for two years and never even thought about trying to get my printed/magazine patterns into it. Thank you so much for this.
I follow each of your videos and have learned so much from you. Your series on knitCompanion has really opened so many options that I never knew existed, including today’s way to import from notes and web pages! So easy! Thank you Thank you for your continued inspiration!
Thank you. Such wonderful information. This is my second year subscribing to The Knit Companion and I love it. There is so much to learn about it. I will definitely go back to the previous videos. I tried the Knitty pattern and like you said “boom” there it was!!!!
OMG what a game changer! Thank you so much for showing us how to get patterns that aren’t in ravelry into KC! I also appreciate the info on getting my projects in their current status on my phone.
Omg KnitCompanion is a game changer for me! Thank you for doing these instruction videos! I am now pretty much paperless for knitting patterns now, and purchased an iPad just for knitting and KnitCompanion 😍
Thank you sooo much for these additional “tips”. I purchased Knit Companion and started using it after watching your videos with the initial info/instructions. I LOVE using it and have downloaded numerous patterns in it. This video is very useful & answered one thing in particular I have been hoping for-getting separate paper patterns loaded into it also. For example, I am working on a blanket kit that I ordered from England that came with a paper pattern. If I were to lose the pattern & wanted to make another one later, I wouldn’t be able to find it on any website, etc. Now, following your instructions & demonstration, I have it downloaded into KC!! You do a great service to the knitting and crocheting “community”, even those of us that are older and not as familiar with the latest technology for using programs such as KC. ❤️❤️
So glad for the ability to sync between devices! That feature alone is what allowed me to take the plunge on the full upgrade for the app! I have an iPad and an Android phone and I didn't want to get the highest tier if I couldn't at least share the setups to my phone.
Great video again Stacy. When I take a pattern from a website, I share it straight into KC without going through the Print option first. It works perfectly well or have I just been lucky!
I finally heard you say sign onto the revelry website and I went through the tutorial there to find some answers to my questions I actually got the three rectangles in to triangle pattern into my knitCompanion library or program I actually found it I feel like I just climb Mount Whitney. Thank you very much for your tutelage. Now I’m going to try to make that sweater. And hopefully wear it someday ha ha Ha.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU! These videos are sooo helpful! KnitCompanion is a game changer! Thank you for introducing it us. I may never go back to knitting without it! I had found out recently that you could use notes to scan pdf. It was great to see how that works. Can this program get any more awesome?
Thanks so much for this. I save my patterns in Google Drive and they add very easily to KC, similar to Dropbox. Also, I had no idea I could save webpages like this--I was manually typing the instructions from free web based patterns into Word then saving as a PDF. This looks so much easier!
Great information. I was just curious if it would work and it did.I scanned a 3 page pattern my iPad in notes then I have it in knitCompanion. Thank you.
I love these updates. I love this app so much and need to get myself an iPad mini so I can have something slightly bigger than my phone to use this app with.
Thanks for this video Stacy. It was very helpful. I figured out by accident that if you turn on the iCloud option in the settings your projects will automatically sync with your other devices (assuming you have iCloud on those devices) without having to upload them to Dropbox (which I don’t use because I have everything in iCloud!). Thought that might be helpful for others too!
Has the feature to “Open in KnitCompanion” been removed from the share option when printing? Andy idea on how we can set this up if we aren’t seeing what you displayed… this would be a VERY useful feature!
Finally, I can get this to work! Your step by step tutorial was excellent. I wasn’t getting it on my own. BTW, the color-block shawl behind you in your office : where can I get the pattern for that? Again thanks for the very thorough explanations.
Hi Stacy. I love all the help you provide. I just bought KnitCompanion. I 'm working my way through. Now, this is a stupid question, I think. How to you save your work? I can apparently delete ok but saving?
I do make that clear in the video. The bulk of the video is available in all of the tiers, the order in which to do the "setup" functions are available in the Setup + Essentials tier.
I have a question for the app. I have a pattern for rounded toes and would like to add it to Susan B. Anderson's First Toe Up Socks. Can this be done or when will we be able to do this. Take two pdf's and make one project. Loving this new version. I've bee working with the Legacy app but had to give it up as my mini iPad is just too old.
Wow! I have all my patterns in GoodReader. I’m going to see if I can move all over to Knit Companion. Wonder if I can do batch transferring (or file transfers). Hmmmm. Thanks for this information. 🍀💖🍀
This was very helpful but I have a question my pattern is two columns. After I crop one side how can I go back to the original page and crop the second side.
Is there a way to know which directions you are going on a flat chart….when you read from right to left on the even rows and then you have to read left to right on the odds rows?
I have had knit companion for years and have loved it. Recently I upgraded my phone to 16 Pro and when I went to the app to continue my project it said it was no longer available. After working different fixes I was able to get the app back but my project was no longer there. There were 3 projects I had loaded but many, many others that were just not there. I can always download the projects again but the project I was working on had my row and stitch counts and I'm panicking because I need to figure out where I am. Can you help?
Staci - Again first my thanks to you for these. Your videos have really changed how I knit and how i use all the wonderful tech tools we now have. I do have a question that KC Support has not been able to answer adequately. I have a pattern that actually has charts that we are supposed to read and work from top to bottom, not the typical bottom to top. I know, I can’t believe it, but it’s a Fisherman’s Rib pattern and top-down, so I don’t know if that’s why. I haven’t actually started the pattern yet. But I asked KC Support if I could set up a Chart Piece and thus a one-key Row moving (Can’t remember the term for it), and they said yes, just set it up. But I cannot see how to get the chart piece and row moving with One-Touch Key to go down instead of up. I know I could do the row movement manually, but I wanted to see if KC Chart Piece could do that. Do you have any way to ask KC or do you know yourself? Thank you.
Sorry - I don't have an answer to that. But kC has good support, I'm sorry you didn't get your answer. You can create a help ticket at knitcompanion.com, or email them at support@knitcompanion.com.
I believe if you set it up as a text piece you can still set the number of rows and other options just like a chart piece but the highlighted row will move down from the top instead.
Love your tutorials on KnitCompanion. I have a question: When returning a project to the original device, will the work done on the second device be transferred to the original project?
Love your videos and love KnitCompanion! I do wonder if there is a way to sort patterns into folders?....say by type...ie..sweaters, hats, etc.or designer or completed...etc...thanks.
I don't think kC has folders...I don't think it is really meant to be a warehouse for all of your patterns. It's probably better to allow Ravelry and Dropbox to store your patterns, and use kC as the place you work with them. That keeps you from needing a ton of expensive drive space on your device.
What version is this ipad that you have. I'm trying to find one like this one that you are using. I can't get KnitCompanion to work on my Android tablet.
kC has short videos that show each of the features I demonstrate in this series. I also work directly with kC to put together the content for each video, so I get help from them when making each video.
I was able to get patterns into kc but for the last month not so much. My Ravelry library does not just transfer to kc and my kc symbol has disappeared. What am I doing wrong started using this sometime this year. I'm not a technically inclined person I'm a hit and miss type. I don't get all the areas you tell to click on but I'm using an iPad
That's more of an iPad question than a kC question...this Apple website gives instructions for having two apps open in the "Split Screen" section: support.apple.com/en-us/HT207582
You’ve showed how to move one pattern at a time to another iOS device. My iPad is doled and giving up the ghost. I would like to transfer my pattern to another device I already own. Is there a way to transfer all my patterns at once?
Stacy, I need help and not sure where do go. I have the knit companion app on my iPad. When I go onto my Ravelry account Library on my mac air and in my Ravelry Library in the Ravelry app ons my iPad those patterns are not pulling over to my knit companion app. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or if I have something not set up correctly. How do I get my library to show from laptop to iPad
I'm sorry you're having trouble, but I'm not sure of the answer. But knitCompanion can help you...check the video description field, there are many resources for help listed there. You can also contact them on Facebook, or at support@knitcompanion.com.
I hope yu can help me. My pattern is in my avelry Library but it doesn't show up in KC. What am I doing wrong? Should I contact the support group? Also I have to keep clicking the Restore Purchase button. It says my subscription renews May 21, 2021
I'm not sure why you're experiencing either of those things...it is best to contact kC directly with your questions. You can go to knitcompanion.com and visit the Support section for help.
Just save the project file to Dropbox, as demonstrated in the video. That way you can save your projects, and keep the memory on your iPad (or other device) freed up from lots of files saves.
Thanks for This video - informative as always 😊 but quite interesting about changing web Pages to pdf. It work like charms from knitty.com but when i try the same from garnstudio.com I Can not make it work? Wonder why
At the garnstudio web site I choose the pattern, then Print button, then use the two finger move to make it into a pdf, then share or Open in KnitCompanion at the top.
