Learn how to keep track of ANY pattern! With knitCompanion you can focus on your knitting instead of juggling paper, row trackers, and “at the same time” instructions. Whether you are an avid technology user or you’re looking for a new way to keep track of your knitting pattern, the knitCompanion app could be the right fit for you. In this video, knitwear designer Jen Lucas shows you not only the basics of the free version of the knitCompanion app, but also explores many of the features that are used in the subscription/paid version of the app. There are so many ways that you can put this app to use in your daily knitting life!
The knitCompanion app is available for both Apple and Android products. You can use the app from your phone or tablet device, and your pattern is just a few taps away, ready to be customized. Jen begins by looking at some of the markers and trackers that are available in the free version of knitCompanion. Where the magic really happens with this app is in the paid features. With these features, you can truly customize the pattern to how you see fit. Add a quick key to refer to a specific part of the pattern quickly, customize row counters and markers, and add reminders. You can also set up charts as well as written instructions in such a way that you can easily ready them and keep track of your place.
There’s so much to dive into with this app! Once you have your pattern all set up, there’s nothing left to do but sit back, relax, and knit!
This is the BEST video to teach how to use Knit Companion. I wish you would make more, pretty please.
Thanks for showing this! I've looked at other videos, but this one is the best. I bought one of your shawl books and should have bought the PDF version so I could use with KC. I have since scanned into PDF and manipulated it, but in the future I'll be buying PDF books.
You are probably sick of hearing this, but your video is so clear...I have a paid subscription and am interested in the more advanced features. Have you created a video for those too? Thanks!
This is such a great explanation for beginning on KnitCompanion! I have been using it for a few years and learned a lot from you!
Glad it was helpful!
I have the free version, but have never used it. My iPad is very old, so I only have it installed on my phone.
I really really like your video as your voice is very pleasant, and you explain very clearly what icons to tap to correctly set up charts. I wish I had seen it earlier! Can you tell me how to delete the sample magic markers that I put on my chart when trying to set up multiple stitches in a row? I was never able to get it to put numbers in the long knit and purl stitches that are in my lace chart. I wanted to retry that, but I am unable to delete the ones I put in as every time a click on a stitch to delete it just adds one. Totally frustrating. Thank you for posting this video, and hopefully, you will post more.

Thankj you for a very good video. Is it possible to make different maps. A map for sweaters, a map for socks and so on? I have a lot of patterns and they are shown i alphabetic order. It does’nt work for me.

I wish you would show how to actually import from your local files because I could not do that.
Thank you for your suggestion. I will forward your feedback to the proper department. We will continue to listen and work hard for your satisfaction.
I’m using an iPad, you need dropbox to interface with knit companion. And.. Dropbox can be an ABSOLUTE paaaiin to install! 2 hours with Apple media to straighten out and I’m still getting messages my data isn’t syncing 😑 but I did get my pattern finally into knit companion. Will I subscribe? Probably not but never say never.
February 10 2024: Thank you for the tutorial. Two questions. The first how do I print a project? The second there are colors on the lower right side what are they for?
😊

Hello this is a fantastic video I have been so confused in knitting companion. I don’t find their videoes easy to follow. I do want to put 3 charts together instead of hopping page to page. Is this possible? Hope to hear from you ,not sure if you see these comments. I’m not good in utube either . Liz krist

Hi yes I have done this part of your utube quite a few times . I think I can do one chart but there are 3 parts of the pattern that need to be together. Wing +lace Center+wing. How do I do that so I need across all 3 on for example row 9? Thank you I appreciate you answering so quickly. Liz
I use my Kindle fire and Ipad.
what if you install on another device because old device stopped working and don't remember name used to setup project?
Hello, I would suggest reaching out to their customer service for assistance with that.
@theknittingcircle4043 finally found email address. had to send the file for them to get the name. it was one i tried. apparently it's case sensitive.
